Hi, I was just thinking about the first time I ever sat in front of a computer on the internet. I was at my friend's house many many years ago and she gave me a brief explanation of surfing. Off I went. The first time I type in was: transposition of the great arteries ~ that's a heart defect my daughter has.

What was your first time like on the internet? What did you look for first? S

I came back to work after being on maternity leave, and we had the internet up and running on the new network system that was installed while I was out.

It was just when the Tickle-Me-Elmo craze began, and I couldn't find one in the stores for my baby.

So I tried searching for "toys" and "Tickle-Me-Elmo" and nearly died over the results I got back. :o

I've since learned how to refine my searches, but talk about trial by fire!

it was 15 yrs ago in my de. My son was 5 and I started to use prodigy, Oh those were the days when I was naive and gullible. Now that I am mature I shop, look up health and fitness issues among other things realted to learning.:D

Probably about 8 years ago, at local community college, they had ONE computer with internet in the library. I was doing a report on weight loss for Health, all I could find were ADs and buy me's. But I did find a great Disney website (SHH!! don't tell were weren't suppose to use it for non school related stuff) by Birnbaum, before Disney had their own site (I think).

I was at a boyfriends house... He had to show me how to work everything... I went to Yahoo first off... some family firends a long time ago had Prodigy and I think that was like the internet. but the first time I went online was 96

My first time on the internet was in 1995, right around the time of the OKC bombing. I had just bought a new computer that had Prodigy preloaded. The first time I ever chatted was the night of the OKC bombing, when I stayed up all night and realized what a small world we now lived in. I talked to people all over the world that night, and have been hooked ever since.

I've had email and online services for a very long time.

As far as the WWW - I don't remember what I was looking for exactly, but I remember poking around all night on the Silicon Graphics website, and imagining the possibilities when EVERYONE had such technology available to them. That was probably 1990 or so.

I dont remember exactly when, it was sometime pre-Windows 95  It was an old used computer that I promptly replaced when Windows 95 came out. I can remember starting up AOL for the first time on that old PC and having to sit through a series up online upgrades for AOL 2.0

I can't remember exactly the first time that I had internet access, but I do remember my early use of email and newsgroups. I also found that the very first thing that I posted to a Usenet newsgroup was back on July 19, 1993:

We stayed at Dixie Landings in June, and were in Alligator Bayou 15, which was a 1 minute WALK from the main (south) depot. These rooms are numbered 15XX. Alligator Bayou 14-18 are all within 1 minute of bus depot and a couple of minutes away from the main registration building.

I was surprised that my very first post was about WDW. But not too surprised.

Oh gosh, I'm not sure I can remember exactly. I've been e-mailing for a really long time, starting with text based e-mails only on very slow dial up conections. My first memories of the WWW would be about 7 years ago (1995), both at home and at school (we were given an hour of "internet" time a week). At school I remember us doing searches on www.webcrawler.com and at home I'd use yahoo and play games like The Lemonade Game (www.lemonadegame.com ...I'm playing it again right now that I remembered it, LOL... it's more complex now though! :) ).

I think it was honestly about 17 years ago. It was much different back then and we did a lot of text based bulletin boards and online gaming. Much much different than today. I didn't really start surfing more like I do now until closer to the mid '90s (I think). And then I have no idea what I would have looked up.

Probably about 5 or 6 years ago for me. I've never been computer savvy, and never really knew what people were talking about when they said they went "on line". Someone at work knew I was a figure skating fan, and turned me on to a skating site/message board. I never really posted there (these people at that site made us look like little angels here at the DIS - the fights they would have would make your hair stand on end!). Pretty soon thereafter, I found the DIS, and that was that.
