Hello there everyone. I just thought that I'd start a post about your first stay at a WDW resort (I'm sure its been done before, but what the heck)

My upcoming trip in December will be my 4th trip to WDW (3 as an adult, 1 as a child). My first trip was a fun filled stay at the Polynesian that almost didn't happen.

I think it occured sometime in the 70's, but I'm not really sure exactly when. Our family went on one of our annual summer driving vacations from Michigan. (Ever see Vacation with Chevy Chase? Not that bad, but you get the idea). Our destination was the Smoky mountains for a fun filled week of camping and more camping. Once we arrived in TN, this 10 year old wasn't impressed with the mountains. Mainly because I couldn't see them due to all of the rain. With a week of rain in the forecast, my parents ordered us back in the car and kept driving... destination unknown.

When we finally stopped driving, I was thrilled to see a sunny sky and under that sky... Disney World. Since this was a spur of the moment thing (and the middle of summer), my dad drove us right up to the Polynesian to find us a room. I sat wide eyes in the lobby, taking in the sights and my dad as he stood in line. I knew something was wrong when he left the counter with a sad look on his face. He told us that no rooms were available and that you had to book months in advance to get a room in the summer. Even with a sunny sky, it suddenly felt very overcast again.

Then my first ever Disney magic moment happened. I'm not exactly sure of the details, but apparently someone in line overheard us talking. That someone was in line to cancel his room for the week for some reason. Instead of just cancelling, with a little Disney magic, he took my dad to the counter and transferred his reservation to us. We went from a state of awe to utterly depressed and back to complete joy right there in the lobby of the Polynesian.

I don't remember much of the vacation except spending hours on the rock water slide in the pool, riding the monorail all over, and holding onto tickets for the rides. The little kid (me) grew up and spent his honeymoon at WDW. In December, we will spend our belated 10 year anniversary trip at the WL (you may have seen my posts worrying about where to stay).

Well, that was my first trip. How about yours?

My first stay was at the Grand Floridian. I went with my then three year old son, just the two of us, and it was raining like crazy when we first arrived. I instantly loved the look of the resort and was very excited. I had no idea that the rooms were going to be decorated with an Alice in Wonderland theme and I thought that was great. It was a spectacular way to start our love affair with WDW  :cloud9:

My first stay was as a child we went to the Contemporary. It was a big deal, and we had so much fun. My Dad died the following year, and as I look back I am so fortunate to have those memories.
My next stay wasn't until 1996, and I wasn't sure if it was just my memory of my Dad, or if WDW was really that great. WDW REALLY is that great.

Although I went to Disney as a kid my parents were never able to afford to stay on site. The memories were still very special and it is because of those trips, I am the Disney fanatic I am today.

When I met my wife, I couldn't believe she never went to Disney. So my first on site stay was on my honeymoon. Till this day it was by far the most magical. First because it was my honeymoon and second because my wife was witnessing it for the first time (she cried during the electromagic parade) and third because it was my first time staying on site. POFQ was the resort and I will never forget it.

My first stay was back in 99 as an 41year old :cool1: for 7 nights.
Was my first flight to USA as well. We stayed at the All Star Movie and toured Florida afterwards for another week.

We got really addicted and went to DLRP now 10times a year  and been back to WDW this January for 10 nights.

Already planning our 06 trip :Pinkbounc :cheer2: :Pinkbounc

WOW! What a story! My first Disney experience was "late" in life at the age of 23. Even though as a child I'd been to Florida every year (we must have been behind you in on I75) I had never been to Disney! My dd was with us on our first trip and I will never forget the look on her eyes throughout our visit. Magical memories for sure!

when we return from our first on property stay on Nov 7th or so.
We are staying at the PoP Century from Oct 31st - Nov 6th.
Hopefully in the next few years we will be able to spring for my husbands dream trip of a Contemporary Tower room trip....

Well lets see my first stay at WDW Resort was way back in the 70's. Not knowing you needed months in advance reservation. I call and was told the only thing they had open was the FW Trailers (back then) Now called cabins. I was a little worryed but I took a chance and booked it as I really wanted to stay on site as a guest. Well let me tell you I was so surprised and so impressed when I arrived. It was a vacation I will never forget. It was also the first time I went to Hoop-De-Do. I have been back to FW a few times since. Now my love is WL . I tried Poly and did not like it and Idid not like CR. Loved POR back then was Dixie Landing and Still love it. This year will be POFQ.

my first stay at WDW was in May of 1974 at Fort Wilderness in a pup tent with my two best college friends (it was at the end of our freshman year - we drove down to WDW)..

that was for the first week.....at the end of that week, my parents and sister flew down to Orlando and i got an upgrade - to the Contemporary Resort Tower (i don't think there were any other hotels at that time, but i'm not sure).

I was 18 years old and it was all great fun - both FW and the CR.

Our first stay was last summer at the AKL. It was wonderful for me, dh and my kids. First time for all of us!!! I am now planning a trip in Dec 06 and am hoping to get the contemporary.....

My first trip was in 1989 at 21 years old. I went with a group of 12 people and we stayed at one of the DD hotels. I couldn't wait to take my DH (my DB at the time) there in 96. We stayed at Dixie Landings. It was his first time and he loved it. He chooses WDW over anything else....and so do I!!!

[POR in January....here we come!!!

Our first stay was in October 2000 at POR (Dixie Landings at the time). It was our 2nd anniversary and I was pregnant with our first child. We did a Land/Sea package (4 days at WDW/3 days DCL) and it was a wonderful trip.

We are now planning our first trip with kids (2 boys 4 & 1) for January and will be staying at WL.

Our first stay on the grounds was in 1986. We could finally afford to stay in a resort hotel and had a Contemporary Tower room, paid about $85/night for it. We enjoyed being able to sit on the balconey and look out at the MK lite up all night and be able to grab the monorail without ever going outside. DS, who was 8 at the time, wanted to do nothing but play down in the very large video game arcade. That spoiled us, haven't stayed off site since.

1971 at the POLY when it first opened.

What a thrill. Needless to say, it remains my favorite WDW resort.

My first trip as a child we stayed at the Poly ( your only choices back than was FW, Contemporary, or Poly). I still remember the that "tropical" feeling and smell when you walk into the lobby. I appreciate those trips ( 2x's) that my parents were able to take my brother and I to WDW and Poly. With the cost of staying there, they must have worked so hard to be able to afford that.
This December will be my families second trip ( my DD 1st). Last year we stayed at ASSP-my boys loved it. This year b/c of Dec. codes we are staying at CBR. In our hearts as long as we have fun as a family and make great memories for our kids, its just as good as staying at a deluxe!

My first onsite stay was at All Star Music it was a fun family trip. Probably one of the last as a family before my parents got divorced. But now about 11 yrs later, I'll be taking My Wife on her first trip to Disney World, and we are staying at Coronodo Springs... as you can see in the countdown we don't have much time left before we leave :cool1: :hourglass :cool1:

My first stay at a Disney resort was at All Star Music when my DDs were very young. We really enjoyed our stay there. We still enjoy watching the videos of the girls playing in the kiddie pool.

Our first stay was at the Poly in January of '77 and it was very cold! Our 2 yr. old DS had to wear his winter jacket practically the whole time.

1977, I was 5, and we stayed at the Contemporary. I got sick during that trip and spent alot of time in the hotel. To this day, everytime I ride through the CR on the monorail and look at the mural on the wall, I get that "Im at Disney" feeling. :goodvibes

My first on-property stay was at the FW campground back in the late 70's. It was def. the nicest campground I'd ever seen. Stayed in a DD hotel on my honeymoon in '87; largest room I'd ever stayed in. Then, with our kids, stayed in All Star Sports. I was really wowed ... by the wonderful theming! The motel itself was like a Comfort Inn (with ultra-small rooms), but the grounds were so well decorated it was like we were right in a Disney park. The large food court and gift shop were great, and the buses ran continuously. Since then we've stayed at Dixie Landings and Coronado Springs, but I still hold a soft spot for All Stars.
