Fresh or homemade.... which are your favorites?

No order....

Campbell's Tomato Soup.... I add lots of basil, and eat with a grilled cheese sandwich.

Homemade potato and leek soup..... I make it.

Tortilla soup. As long as it isn't from a can, I'm good. :thumbsup2

Wow... do you work with me????

I had a co worker who brought me in the most AWESOME homemade Potato and leek soup last week, and today she brought me some Mexican soup that was aMAzing. I'm in HEAVEN!

I love homemade soap, it's so warming and comfortable. Not a big fan of canned soups, though.

Mmm... soup! It's one thing that makes the cold weather more tolerable.

I make an outstanding French Onion soup. My uncle is a chef and he gave me his time-honored recipe. There's really nothing like it. It takes all day to make but it's so worth it!!

I also make a great homemade potato leek.

Pioneer Woman's Tomato soup with sherry

I was at a party once and I had a cheddar beer soup that was great! Really chunky and full of veggies.

Le Cellier's cheddar beer soup is great too.

Mmm... hungry now.

I love Tomato Bisque and my homemade Baked Potato Soup is WONDERFUL!!!

Not my favorite, but my FIL brought over about 1/2 gallon of Panera Bread Company's Broccoli Cheddar soup.... which is what inspired the thread.... But I'll have some, for sure.

In no particular order:

homemade chicken noodle soup
bacon cheddar potato soup
cream of chicken
stuffed pepper
vegetable beef
campbell's tomato made with milk
lobster bisque
clam chowder
a well made french onion soup
most soups from Boma, particularly butternut squash

I haven't started yet, but I had set myself a goal of making a different type of soup once a week this fall. I hate to cook, so hopefully this will help me strive towards eating at home more often!

All homemade:

Cheddar beer soup (serve with homemade pretzles and a spinach salad mmmm)
chicken noodle
cream of potato
spicy black bean
Veggie soup with rice
pumpkin soup

I would love a good recipe for pumpkin soup. that sounds like it would be yummy!

my kids do not like soup, and I find that so strange. I love soup! this year I want to make more homemade soup. I haven't made many in the past several years and need to find some good recipes. even if the kids don't eat it, dh and I can, and I can freeze the extras. :)

My homemade hamburger vegetable - I'm making it tomorrow. :goodvibes

I love most soups, but have to be careful to avoid those that contain wheat.

Anyone care to share some recipes? Particularly the french onion, potato leak, and cheddar beer soups. I have a pretzel bread recipe that I bet would be fantastic with the cheddar beer soup!

My faves are chicken noodle and beef stew.

I like this thread! We are big on soups in my house so I am always looking to find new ones to add to my rotation. For a long time I couldn't find any good recipes but then I came across one of those $9.99 special edition Taste of Home "Soup" books, picked it up and was on my way.

Over the weekend I made Creamed Cabbage Soup with fat free milk, and last week I made both French Onion and Creamy Tomato with fat free cream cheese. The biggest bonus there is for making my own is that I can cut out almost all the bad stuff and turn just about any recipe into good one for my family. All of these recipes are available free on their website. I am a huge fan!

Others I love from their website are the Pasta Fagioli with chicken sausage, Cauliflower, No fuss Potato & a potato leek one.

I usually use a soup to dress up an otherwise dull meal such as chicken burgers or plain grilled chicken.

Avgolemono and Scotch Broth.

I'll take your run of the mill Chicago-area 24/7 joint's chicken lemon rice too.

Those are the absolute favorites but I like pretty much everything except Cream of Mushroom-esque soups.

My favorites are always homemade! Specifically taco soup, hamburger soup and tomato bisque.

For canned soups I like Progresso much better than Campbell's...the chicken in Campbell's is always little squares of sawdust. Yuck! My favorite Progresso soups are Chickarina, Chicken Noodle and Garden Vegetable.

Homemade:

Taco Soup
Cuban Black Bean Soup
Ham and bean soup (made with smoked pork neck bones)
French Onion
Chicken Noodle
Vegetable Beef
Pumpkin Garlic
Irish Autumn Bisque
Hugarian Goulash

Canned:
Tomato (Campbells)
Bean with Bacon
Clam Chowder

My family loves the fall and winter, we are definately soup lovers! I grew up with most of these (homemade). My mom was a wonderful soup maker~

Minestrone
French Onion
Taco Soup
Lentil
Pasta Fagioli
Potato/cheddar cheese/ham
Chicken soup with homemade noodles and matzo balls
Italian Wedding Soup
Pumpkin and Black Bean Soup

My kids love Panera's Brocoli Cheddar Cheese Soup! It's only a once in a great while treat though, anymore, they're prices are just too high now.

Here is a recipe for Rachael Ray's Pumpkin and Black Bean soup~
It is a little spicy (you can make it as spicy as you want). I serve it with a dollop of sour cream and tortilla chips on the side and my kids love it:

I love a good soup on a cold day. :lovestruc

My favorites are all homemade:

Beef Stew and Chicken Stew (both with dumplings for sure!!!)

Cream of Brocolli

French Onion

A good Lobster Bisque

My grandmothers chicken noodle soup (RIP memere) :littleangel: That little woman could throw together whatever was in the fridge and make the BEST damn soup EVER. But I like a good homemade chicken noodle (unless it's my MIL's. For some reason, her soups come out "oily" Never heard of a greasy soup.

And a couple years ago, we went to our Christmas party for work and they had some Butternut Crab Bisque that was to die for. My friend and I kept going back up to the soup table to get some more. I would have spent all night just at the soup station, it was so good!!!

I love this thread....must be because I love soup!!!!
I'm always making some kind of soup and always try different ones.
Today I made my old stand by~Wedding Soup

I love my homemade Tomato, Spinach Basil Soup which I think I got the recipe here on the dis!!

Keep posting your favorite soups and recipes

I'm not much of a soup person, but there are a few I really do like.

In order of awesomeness:

A proper French Onion Soup! It's the ultimate comfort food for me, and we make it frequently when we have time. I even like the 'fake' french onion soups one gets at restaurants. Onions, croutons and cheese - you can't go wrong!

Butternut Squash soup. When I lived in Dawson City, one of the few (two) eating establishments open during the winter had the best butternut squash soup. Well worth the short walk, even in a blizzard!

The tomato bisque from safeway. The closest to canned I like, but darnnation is it ever good!

Chilled melon mint soup. Best chilled soup ever. Once I learnt to blend it properly so it's smooth and not lumpy. :rotfl:

All homemade:

Potato Leek Soup
Tomato Basil Soup
White Cheddar Cheese Soup
Vegetable Beef
Chicken Noodle
Does chili count as a soup? lol

:thumbsup2

Canned/Restaurant:

French Onion
Chicken Tortilla
