Trying to plan a vacation for my family (2 teenage boys - 14 and 16) and am looking to stay somewhere other than DW, VB, or HHI. Needs to be warm (for me!) with stuff the boys can do.

Does anyone have a favorite other vacation spot that you could recommend?

Thanks!

Well, if you are planning a a summer vacation, perhaps Myrtle Beach, SC? Lots going on for the boys and warm, beach weather for you.

My boys(13/8) loved the beach at MB and the many mini golf places. Elder one's comment was "it's pretty tacky". :rotfl2:

My boys really enjoyed Park City UT in summer(hiking/mountain biking/zip lining/etc). We stayed at Marriott's Summit Watch which is right downtown, the whole location was pretty intriguing to them. Plus PC has a great public transportation system too.

My kids also like Boyne Mountain Michigan, in summer(we have a TS week there) and winter(tubing, learning to ski/snowboard). Plus indoor waterpark!

This summer we are spending a few days down at the new Wyndham in the Smokey Moutains, I'll let you know. Eldest has already got his "tacky radar" going. :rotfl2:

Then off in July to Hawaii for 17 days, now they are  about that. The Big Island seems to be gathering their interest the most. Volcanos!

Like you, OP, we're looking for someplace new. This summer we are taking our 13 and 14 yr old daughters to Hawaii (17 nights in Oahu, Kauai, and Maui).

Other favorite places are St John, the Bahamas, and we're thinking of trying Aruba, and the BVI.

Enjoy, good luck researching ideas....

St. John USVI, we stayed 2 nights at the Cinnamon Bay Campground (in cottages, not tents) and then rented a huge villa with another family for another 7 nights. Our favorite vacation spot besides Disney, hands down. Incredible beaches, lots of snorkeling, great food (no night life, which is fine with me) took all 3 kids ages at that time 17, 15 and 11. Trying to plan another trip there right now.

Ummm...17 nights in Hawaii - AWESOME!!!! Kauai is my favorite of the three but I am partial to it - lived there in the 80's. Have a fun trip!!!

NJ shore particularly Wildwood Crest & Cape May; beach, boardwalk (rides, arcades, etc.), boating, fishing, dining. Our kids loved it when they were little ones and still do now. Just around half an hour drive to Atlantic City too where there is often a concert or other entertainment event on weekends at one of the casino hotels that appeals to teens.

:goodvibes

The only other vacation that we ever consider is a cruise. I never thought that I would be a cruise person, but I am *hooked*. :thumbsup2

Would a national park experience appeal to you, them? Grand Canyon (fly into Las Vegas for other type activites), Yellowstone, Acadia, Shenandoah, more...they all would have great outdoor experiences.

Were they bored at HHI? That seems to offers lots of other than amusement park type activities.

I love to snorkel, so any cruise to the Caribbean appeals to me. St. Thomas/St. Johns are both heavenly!

Finally, I love the Wildwood/Cape May area of New Jersey. I've never made it to Myrtle beach, but will someday.

Our favorite places are Red Fish Lake, ID; Park City, UT; Folley Beach, Charleston, SC; Cancun, San Francisco and Rome, Italy. Kids include DS15, DD 11 and DS 8.

Agree that National Parks are great. We love Yellowstone, Arches, Canyonlands and Zion.

Park City is great in July and August. Red Fish Lake is very remote, an hour north of Sun Valley. It is beautiful and offers fishing, boating, hiking, horseback riding, etc. My kids would choose RFL anytime over WDW.

Have fun where ever you go!

Not recommended for summer but definitely when you want to leave the snow behind - Las Vegas. It was totally random that DH had to go there on business so I said I'd take my 2 teens (13 &15). We had a blast. We drove to the Hoover Dam, went to a water park, saw 2 amazing shows (discount tickets by the Coke store) and had so much fun we're doing it again. We stayed at the Excalibur which has a huge family arcade in the basement, a Medieval Times dinner show too and a very kid friendly food court. The free outdoor shows are great (bellagio fountains, pirate show at Treasure Island, volcanos), they loved Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay. FAO Schwartz Toy Store took 2 hours just to see everything. There's a wax museum and St. Marks square in the venetian was also a big hit. Did I mention the roller coaster at New York, New York and the Big Shot at the Stratosphere? And of course, the pool.... aaaaaaah, the pool.......

This is NOT a vacation for babies or young children. Maybe tweens but definitely teenagers.

Hmmm, somewhere other than DW, VB or HHI that's warm with stuff the boys can do....

I've got it!

How about DISNEYLAND?!!:teeth:

Hard to beat the beautiful beaches of Panama City or Destin,Fl!

Although we haven't been yet (going this summer) how about the Black Hills of SOuth Dakota. There looks to be lots to do there for families, and it's not cold. Depending on when you're going, I hesitate to recommend Yellowstone. Although we loved it (went 3 years in a row), we had snow all 3 years when we went in June. Fortunately, snow was OK with us, since it's so hot where we live, we never get snow. Actually, the snow was one of the things we liked.

Aaahhh...Wildwood, NJ. My kids LOVED it when they were younger.

Warm weather in winter? Try St. Martin. The French side is relaxing, the Dutch side has casinos and more night life. And there are beaches everywhere.

San Diego, CA. Great weather, shopping, food, hotels, entertainment. If you can afford it, check out The Lodge at Torrey Pines :thumbsup2
