Your Favorite "MGM Street Performers"

who's my favorite? Whichever one of them (in my experience, usually none) knows that if you have a microphone, there is absolutely no need to yell.

(as someone who's worked theater, radio and tv tech, yelling into a microphone is the fastest way to A) make yourself sound terrible, B) Damage your equipment and C) annoy your audience)

Hollywood Dating Game is my favorite performance of all time in any of the parks. I never laughed so hard in my LIFE!!!

I love the MGM Streetmosphere characters too.

One of my all-time favorite ones is Gracie Flutterbuck.

My all time favorite was the actress who played "Gabriel Huntington" (I think that was her name). One skit she had was to audition a new body guard. Sadly, I haven't seen her at MGM since she had to have knee surgery (I think) last year. Hopefully, the reason I haven't seen her is that she's gone on to bigger and better things. So I just love everyone who's there now. I find them the most entertaining part of MGM. There was a website for the fans of the Streetmosphere characters, but unfortunately I can't find it now. Does anyone know the web address?

I'm afraid she's one of the ones whose contracts were not renewed recently... and my source is one of the streemosphere players. I think she was the one who sat at the other end of a bench I was on one day. She pretended to read a book and kept looking over the top of the book at me. She inched toward me a little at a time as if I did not notice. Then she "accidentally" dropped a handerchief on the street. I made a big show out of discovering and returning it to her and she she began to flirt in a silly overdone way. Then I said "I some very bad news for you." She stopped with a sudden "What!" I held out my left hand with the wedding ring on it.
She began bawling at the top of lungs and ran away.

fun stuff!

Another I will miss is Roman Holiday. How can anyone not laugh at a character who appears to be taking himself soooooooo serisously... and then his hairpiece flips up?

Another who was not renewed is most known as Greta Garbage but she did some others in recent years. One of my first encounters with Greta Garbage is a classic. She was sprawled out face down on the pavement, using a series of tools and cleaning agents to remove a piece of gum from the street. I offered some suggestions about how to do it, she told me she was an expert and could handle it. I asked if she had any deadlines for getting the other 500 pieces done.

I was there one day when a popular member of the cast was there for his last day before heading to Hollywood (for real.) he wrote a story that was played out over several sets that set him up for a staged death. Great stuff and it grabbed people's attention because there was a story being told!

Benefit to raise money for Studios Streetmosphere performer
Donna Charles, best known for portraying Rosie the Cleaning Lady for many years as one of the popular Streetmosphere characters at the Disney-MGM Studios, suffered a stroke three months ago, but hopes to return to work in the next week or so. Her fellow cast members have organized an after-hours benefit show at the Theater of the Stars at the Studios (normally home to Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage) to help her out. Every dollar raised will go to Donna to help defray costs for medical expenses and loss of work.

An amazing line-up of Streetmosphere characters, current and retired, will be performing, as well as some of her former colleagues from her days at the Adventurer's Club. (Please note that this will not be a typical "Disney" show, as this is an unofficial event focused on Donna.) Since the show is not being sponsored by Disney, there will be no official mention of it anywhere, and only those who are already aware of it will have any knowledge that it is occurring.

A benefit will be held on August 11 for Donna Charles, best known as Rosie the Cleaning Lady. Photo courtesy of event organizers.

A Stella Night, For "Rosie" will take place on Friday, August 11, at 9 p.m. Doors will open between 8:00 and 8:30. As this is a special event, park admission is not required. A guest relations host will greet guests attending this event at the far right of the main gate of the Studios, near the ATM. Guests will be directed through a backstage area directly to the Theater of the Stars, During this walk to the Theater, Guests will be interacting with Streetmosphere as they are directed to this "Red Carpet" event.

There is a suggested $10-per-person donation at the door. A silent auction will also be held, featuring items not available to the public from all of the Equity stage shows within the Disney-MGM Studios.

Donna Charles began working at Walt Disney World in 1982, doing trunk shows at EPCOT Center with the SAK Theater. She was selected to be a member of the original cast of the Adventurer's Club at Pleasure Island, creating the role of the club's maid. She was later asked to move to the Disney-MGM Studios to become part of what became known as Streetmosphere. She has created several Streetmosphere characters, including Rosie, who is now one of the most requested characters at the Studios.

Roman still lives on! You can find him at AK in the Flights of Wonder show. He was great in it. Is Gracie still around? Which one of them really went to Hollywood? Thanks.
