I know you can get most name brands free or cheap with coupons but for those rare occasions that you can't what are your favorite store brands? Which ones are gross. Let's help each other save some money!

Walmart sour cream is gross!

Kroger brand stuff is good. So far I've only tried the popsicles and the ice cream and I was very surprised at how good they were, how cheap and you get more in the package.

Publix sour cream is good.

Generic pop tarts are gross.

Virtually any product COSTCO puts the COSTCO or Kirkland name on is top quality. Generally as good, or almost as good, as the highest rated name brand products in that category.

I buy a lot of the Kroger brand stuff, but there are some things that I just want the name brand of.

Surprisingly, the kroger toilet paper was really good quality. The organic milk tastes great, about $2 cheaper than the name brands.

I won't do generic cereal, except oatmeal.

Plus, I get the emp. discount on Kroger items :thumbsup2

In Texas, we LOVE the Hill Conutry Fare and HEB brands. Their products are EXCELLENT :thumbsup2! And HEB is WAY cheaper than shopping at Kroger here. Whenever I end up in Kroger, I just about have a heart attack at some of their prices :scared1:.--Katie

Stuff I forgot in my first post:

target brand liquid dishwasher soap (in the green bottle compare to cascade) works well but I haven't bought it in awhile because of all my free and cheap electrasol.

cvs brand soaps, lotions have such a fake overperfumy chemical smell, I don't like them. Their premium toilet paper is nice but it's too expensive, I don't like their 1000 sheet stuff. CVS red gummy fish are awful! The gummy sour worms are good though.

ralston brand cerals are good except the honey nut os and tasteeos (generic cheerios) they are gross.

I've started shopping at Aldi's and it has become my new favorite store! I find that most of their products are just as good or better than name brands at Kroger or Publix. Now that school is out and I have 3 hungry boys at home all day, I will be visiting Aldi's a lot!

I will also say that most of Publix brand items are great. I buy their chips, bread, milk, paper products, cleaning products and always get their "mystery penny item" on Sundays and Mondays.

Forget about any kind of generic Rice Krispys. Only the Kellogs ones make decent Rice Krispy Treats!

I like a lot of the Target brand stuff. Their version of goldfish (ducks) are better than Pepperidge Farm, imho (and my kids think so too). I have also been happy with their cereals.

Two things I will always buy name brands: toilet paper (I'm a TP snob) and cola (Diet Pepsi or Diet Coke).

Hy Vee store brands including Grand Selection and Dining In are great. Their Midwest County Fair brand (MCF) is more hit or miss. I love HyVee ketchup (compares to Heinz), HV bacon, HV cheese, MCF milk, HV pizza crust, HV spaghetti sauce, HV Whole grain-pasta, HV whole grain white bread, HV applesauce, HV Orange juice, Dining In ribs, HV Rootbeer/Cream soda/Orange/Black Cherry/Grape/Sour and tons more.

I don't like HyVee premium apple juice, their canned fruit or their colas though.

I don't like Malt-O-Meal cereals, especially not the Crunch Berries/Collossal Crunch.

I love Publix brand stuff, especially their milk and cheese.

I also really like the Walmart (GV) brand saltine crackers, my dd would eat saltines all day long if I let her. Walmart's are $.98/box, it beats the name brand ones at $2-3/box.

Target brand paper towels are just as good as Bounty. One kid in my DD's elementary school did a science fair project to see which brand holds up best (like on the commercials)... and Target's were as good as if not better than some of the name brands. I always buy the target paper towels... as we go through about a roll a day. (which reminds me.. I've got to go to Target to get more):thumbsup2 and I agree with one of the PP's... their cereal is not bad either... especially their lucky charms version... not bad.

I actually like the Giant brand 100% cranberry raspberry juice better than Ocean Spray. I think it's one of the best juices out there!

We love the Market Pantry line at Super Target. We've tried almost everything, and love it all! :cool1:

My DD17 is pretty picky when it comes to cereal, but she loves Aldi's cereals and orange juice. My DS14 will eat almost anything (and a lot of it ;) ). Our three year old is like his sister, but he will eat Aldi's cereal too. We also shop at Kroger, but there are certain generic things that the kids don't like as much (spaghetti sauce is one of those; Pop Tarts are another), so we use coupons and stock up when they have sales.

I LOVE the works toilet bowl cleaner- get it at Dollar Tree and it is AWESOME. No Scrubbing!

I would never do generic crocs- although until I tried them on I never thought I would do REGULAR crocs...that's all that comes to mind at the moment.

Wegman's brand rocks!

Their cat food is really cheap and good ingredients (can't vouch for the taste but the cats like it)

The Honey Nut Oat O's are as good or better than Honey Nut Cheerios

Giant Eagle's store brand (Value time?) sucks. I am an artist and I use lots of vinegar in my work, and Value time dilutes the acidity less than the standard 5%...so not as much bang for your buck there.

CVS brand contact solution (the multi-purpose, no rub formula) is excellent and performs as good as Renu.

Target brand paper towels are all I buy now. They are absorbent, sturdy, and come in the make-a-size which my family likes.

Kroger brand dairy products are good too. Specifically, I like their cheeses and sour cream.

i love "bag" cereal. malt'o'meal brand. beats the real stuff hands down. and less than half the price!
