My husband and I were supposed to go to an all-inclusive resort in Mexico for our 20th anniversary, but due to annoying life crap, we had to cancel. So now we want to do 2-3 long weekend getaways, within 7 hours driving distance from our home.

Where are your favorite couple's getaway destinations in:
New Jersey
New York
Pennsylvania
New Hampshire
Delaware
Virginia

Saratoga Springs, NY (Saratoga Arms) - probably only in summer

I'll second The Finger Lakes area of Central NY. Lake George, NY is also another place to look at...specifically the Sagamore resort. In PA, you could look at the Hotel Hershey in Hershey, PA.

A lot depends on what you like to do. Sit on the beach? Go hiking? Tour museums and take in culture? Do you prefer cities or smaller towns? For me:

New Jersey: Long Beach Island. Dh and I are happy to sit on the beach, grab some cocktails and seafood.
New York: Love the Finger Lakes region. Rent a home on one of the lakes, go kayaking, fishing, explore, etc.
Pennsylvania: DH's family is from the Lancaster area and there's a lot to see/do in that area. We've also driven up to the Poconos.
New Hampshire: The Lakes Region is a great place to explore, along with the coast (Portsmouth).
Delaware: I'd go to Washington DC.
Virginia: I'd go to Williamsburg.

I agree with several of the options already suggested so trying to think of something else to include. Rehoboth De, Dewey Beach, Fenwick Island and Ocean City MD would be a neat area for the weekend. Also Berlin MD is a really cute and quaint especially for a weekend. Shenandoah mtn. In Virginia would be relaxing and there are many cabins/rentals available for a low key weekend. Lancaster Pa is also a neat area to explore. Dutch apple has some cute dinner shows, lots of shopping and history around the area.

This is a great idea. I'm sorry you had to cancel you trip, but hopefully having many weekends of fun will make up for it!

Congratulations, @Momager!!!

I looked at that online, looks really nice.
I'm sure I am jaded because I have lived here (25 miles away) all my life, but I wouldn't give Lake Placid a penny of my hard-earned money. I haven't been there in over 5 years. Everything is overpriced and restaurants are mediocre at best. You can't buy anything without it saying Lake Placid on it. They are still trying to live off the 1980's Olympic hype. You may go and enjoy it and if you do that's wonderful. We all have different opinions and they're just that, opinions. Wherever you end up have a wonderful time.

Virginia : Williamsburg area.
Pennsylvania: Lancaster
NJ: As a lifelong South Jersey resident Cape May or Avalon/Stone Harbor. But not in the middle of Summer. Late Spring to early June or September -early October. Just avoid Memorial Day & Labor Day weekends . Most Schools in our area don't let out until mid-June & start until a day or 2 after Labor Day.
We haven't been yet but a friend raves about the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
Quebec City or Montreal would be great . But you may want to wait until May . We went for a week mid-April . Wore snow boots the 1st few days in Quebec City.

What do you like to do? We like the Finger Lakes region for wineries, hiking, some interesting museums. DH and I went to Charlottesville, VA last October for our 35th anniversary - wineries, Shenandoah National Park, Monticello. Some nice restaurants too. (We are not beach people)

Did you enjoy Monticello? We are thinking of stopping on our way to the Smokies in April. I would love to hear anything you can tell me about it
