Your Favorite Cookbook

I have bunches of cookbooks from several years ago that I still enjoy looking at occasionally, also more recent cooking magazines, but I seldom use their recipes.

I look at several on the internet of what I'm interested in, then basically make up my own. I enjoy experimenting so seldom follow any recipe. Love to cook!

The Joy of Cooking has been my go-to cookkbook for more years than I want to admit. I actually have three different editions! It's really interesting to see how the book has changed from my oldest edition from the 60's to today.

But these days I rarely look at an actual book. I do all of my research on line.

Oh, those Snobby Joes are so good! Have you done the Nacho Night from Isa Does It? Amazing. And the chocolate marbled banana bread? I gave out three copies of that book as Christmas presents!

Love that banana bread! Have not tried the nachos yet but I will get to them. The Coconut French Toast is so good and I always serve it with a warm blueberry or raspberry sauce made from frozen berries. I also love the Dragon Noodle Salad and that Curried Peanut Sauce is incredible. Love that book!

I inherited a cookbook from my MIL. It is called Huntsville Alabama (something) Club. I clearly don't have it with me.

It is from the 50's and it is a collection of various service club's wives' home recipes. Some of them are very straightforward: like how to make pie crust from scratch. Then below that, will be Mrs. Henderson's (of the Elk Lodge) version of a pie crust, following that will be the pie crust of Mrs. Ellwood (of the Kiwanis Club), for example.

Others are truly a sign of their times: how to cook a stew starting with a lump of lard!!! :rotfl2:

I'm a lousy cook (but I love cooking) most of the time so I find their basic instructions very helpful.

My favourite will soon be "Pound a day" by Rocco Dispirito.

He has helped *Sherry (The View) her dh and many others lose as *diabetics with low calorie recipes. I'm wishing to enjoy food while maintaining a healthy weight.

One of our favorite cookbooks that we got as a wedding gift is the Better Homes and Garden Bridal Edition. We use it all the time. I can cook pretty much anything as long as I have good instructions (and pictures help) and this cookbook explains different types of meats/cuts and has a ton of great recipes. It has become my go-to shower gift along with kitchen gadgets.

We got one too! I love it as well!

I tend to use Pinterest a lot. I have some Ina Garten's books that are good. Her food is so rich though.
