I'll vote for TS; before they "broke through". I'm talking about Wednesday nights at Zaffy's in Piscataway with no admission price. "Rock and Roll Savior", "Ladies Boy", "Come Back", and the Thin Lizzy "Boys are Back in Town" and Aerosmith "Train Kept A Rollin" sets. Those were the days. Kenny was still the bass player before Mark "The Animal" Mendoza, formerly of the Dictators.

I was working for Britny Fox when they broke up. I saw it happen. Yes, there was a "saw" to that mess. We were in the Holiday Inn on Amwell (?) in Providence, it was April 17, 1990. And "poof" that tour was done. Well, OK then. It would ahve been my second tour with them, instead it became one night and we were done. I went to work for the Hooters (again!) the next day. :)

One of those guys--either Michael or Billy IIR--was playing with Mike Lecompt for awhile around Philly. Not sure if he still is though.

Are you sure? My buddy ( back then ) was Johnny D... the drummer for LeCompt. He and I went to HS together. Maybe he was only a fill in drummer, though.... He was also a drummer for Britny Fox.

Might have been Johnny Dee. I really don't remember. We went to see them at some watering hole in NE Philly a couple times. Mike LeCompt was always the draw for us--it didn't really matter who was behind him.

I thought his father was an artist? I think one of his brothers is a professional hockey player, but not sure.

THANKS....

Do any of you ever get sucked in by any of those VH1 countdowns. My DH and I caught part of a "best 100 songs of the 80s" deals the other day. Needless to say ... most of your favorites hair bands are on there!

It was THERE that we thought we caught the reference about Sebastian Bach I asked about.

But ... according to google, you are right about the artist thing. Maybe the reference on the stupid countdown was to Sebastian Bach.

Bon Jovi without a doubt, and Jon still looks soooooooo good today!

Oh and I loved Duran Duran too, Roger was my fave so you girls can fight over John!:rotfl: :rotfl:

I enjoy those countdowns now and then.

Off-hand the only ones that comes straight to mind whose father was a "rock star" were the Nelson twins. Nuno Bettencourts father was an accomplished musician who made his living in that manner, but he wasn't a "rock star." And more than a handful of them had mothers who taight piano.

I thought that Julian Lennon could have been another but his success was so limited. It's funny that you don't see more musical offspring.

He's one, but you are right, he had limited success--and definitely wasn't in a "hair band." And you reminded me of one I forgot--Jason Bonham, son of John Bonham! He had a "hair band" at the very end of the era, and has kicked around in a bunch of other bands with marginal success since then.

I agree, it is surprising that there aren't more offspring, although I think that's changing. Stings son is in a band with a single that's racing up the charts and a CD scheduled for release in a month or so.

ETA: The son of The Kentucky headhunters drummer, Fred Young, is the drummer in Black Stone Cherry, a fairly new (and very young!) band that's been doing pretty well on the charts. BSC drummer John Fred Young is a monterous talent. They are far from a hair band, but check them out if you get a chance. If you like the bluesier stuff like Tesla and Aerosmith, you'll enjoy them. My two cents is that they are the best band to come out in the past few years!

ducklite...I always enjoy your posts on threads like this. Both DW and I were big into the "hair band" scene back in the day, and it's always neat to hear from someone that knew a lot of those bands that we listened to and saw in concert.

As for me...my favorites were probably Poison and (if they qualify) Bon Jovi. DW's was definitely Bon Jovi (she'd drop me in a heartbeat if she could upgrade to Jon ;) ). The only other one I would consider a favorite was probably Tesla.

Thanks! It was how I made a living for many years. After I left the industry f/t, the freelance work became the downpayment on our first house. :thumbsup2 I did work with a lot of very "interesting" cats over the years, some more so than others. Some of the people I met are friends and/or people I respect to this day. Others--well, I wish I had never worked for a certain band who murdered 100 people. I didn't like them when I worked for them, and I really don't like them now. But that's a different thread.

Someday I'm going to write a book... ;)

I was never a fan of Poison, Warrant, Danger Danger, Ratt, and a dozen other "hair bands." I've always enjoyed Bon Jovi. The sad thing is that some of the best of the "hair bands" got lost in the shuffle and no one ever heard about them. Badlands, Tangier, Nevada Beach, Dirty Looks, there are a lot more.

I see a lot of the same things that happened during the end of the hair band scene happening all over again in the music industry--I think we're about to see a major change in the direction of rock music as far as what the current hot "sound" is.

I picked Poison... absolutly love them - still jam out to their Greatest Hits CD in my minivan LMAO.
Adored Bon Jovi as well - saw them in concert after "New Jersey" came out - what an awesome show! I didn't consider them a Glam band though - they were definately a Hair band, but they didn't do the whole make-up-and-sparkley-stuff routine... they were more down to earth.
Ah the high school memories...

Actually...yeah they did in their very early days.

Check them out in the Runaway video. They must have had stock in Revlon eyeliner and Aquanet! :rotfl:

OK, that's true - LOL... in their self-titled first album days and the fareinheit days, they were quite glam... I didn't come to the Bon Jovi party till the Slippery era, so I tend to forget about their earlier stuff. :rolleyes1

I love Poison. Yes still today. We have seen them about a dozen times. I got to meet Brett once. He was the sweetest guy. I was a little starstruck and he held my hand for like 5 minutes and talked to my husband. Ahh, a day I will never forget.
I actually like a lot of hair bands poison is the winner for me.

Ok if we are throwing in Bon jovi they would win. Yes even over Poison. I have been in the fan club for longer than I care to say. I have seen them in Chicago, NY NJ, Mass and Denver all more times than I remember, yes I actually do not know how many times I have seen them. One time my DH couldn't go with so his frien went with me. He didn't know me very well and on the way down said..."so how many songs will you know, I judge how worth it the ticket was on that." After staring at him for a second I said "um all of them, did dh not warn you?" We still joke about it now. It was pretty funny. It was the first time I saw them in NJ and I think he "got it" when we turned the corner around giants stadium and it said Welcome Home Bon jovi and I started crying. Poor Guy!

Anne, you're definitely right that Julian was in no hair band. I was struggling to even find someone in the overall rock genre.

By the way, love that picture of big-haired Bon Jovi. They must cringe when they see that. ;)
