On our upcoming April trip, we are planning to go to evening (9-11 pm) extra magic hours at MK. We are planning to skip fireworks and do rides during this time because we are seeing the fireworks on another day. We’ve always done morning extra magic but never evening, and I’m excited!

My kids are 9 & 12 and ride everything. Are there are rides that are especially cool at night? Any that are great to ride with shorter waits during the fireworks? We’ll be there the week leading to Easter, so crowd level will be high. Would love to hear your favorite ways to experience nighttime extra magic at MK. :) Thanks!

I LOVE extra magic hours at MK at night! So much fun! The whole park has a glow to it.
Thunder Mountailn Railroad is lots of fun at night, it gives it a cool new perspective. And with your kids, rides like Dumbo and Magic Carpets will be fun too as you can see all the things lit up as you go around. Those would be my top three but even Pirates and Haunted Mansion take on a more ominous tone when you are heading in after dark and leave the ride after dark!

Have fun! Plus for the kids it will just seem like a special family party atmosphere getting to stay up later than usual and be running around the park .

Thanks so much for the tips! :)

I like to ride splash, thunder and jungle at night because you get a different vibe than you do during the day. Dumbo and barnstormer are outdoors too but we don’t always ride those.

Last year we did BTMRR during fireworks, the line was still sooooo long. This was end of July, and I figured people would be camping out for the fireworks so got in line about 15 minutes before the fireworks started, line was still over an hour. Was not what I expected, my strategic planning did not work out as expected. Wanted to share this so others could have better planning.

100% BTMR, if you time it right you hit the top right when the FWs go off. Also, People Mover. Not a ride but do Swiss Family Tree House. Not many people climbing it and you can pause at the top for a great view.

I feel like all outdoor rides are better at night. Roller coasters feel more intense to me. Also Prince Charming Regal Carousel is always a must do at night for my girlfriend and I.

I’m glad you suggested Swiss Family Tree House. We finally went in it for the first time back in October. I hadn’t even thought of checking it out at night too. Definitely going to do that when we go back in 2 weeks.

It's actually a must do for us. My son and I both love the book and the old Disney movie so we get really geeky about it. I think the people who don't enjoy it and think it's just walking up a bunch of steps don't know the story.

DD(now13) and I go on Barnstormer at the beginning of the fireworks, usually try to sit near the back. We usually are able to stay on & ride several times w/o getting off. Another thing we like to do, is stand near Gaston's Tavern - it is like you are surrounded by the fireworks, especially the big ones. One year there was a PP photographer & he took some really cool pics of DD near that fountain.
Jungle cruise is fun at night, as well as all the outdoor rides mentioned above.
Happy planning & enjoy your trip!

I agree, BTMR is great at night. Jungle Cruise is also a fun one to do at night, as sis Spladh Mountain. HM is also a fun one to do at night.

BTMR is a lot of fun, especially if you can time it right with the fireworks. We think Jungle Cruise is very different, and we actually prefer riding it at night. Any of the outdoor rides, such as Aladdin, that let you see things lit up and gives you a different perspective is fun.

We usually do BTMR multiple times during the last hour of the night. So much fun :) Once we ran over to 7DMT and got on the last train of the night. Last trip on Dec 30, we rode BTMR with a short wait at 1:30am, then raced across the park to be one of the last on Space Mountain.

I think I’ll be there the same night as you. We arrive that day (April 8th) so we are glad to get a lot in that night at MK. I’m curious to how short the ride lines will be for this busy week and during the extra hours?? I have never gone for extra evening hours but this is also only my 2nd trip to Disney.

I’m so curious, too! I just made fast passes today and if their availability is any indication of crowds that week, it’ll be pretty crowded. I got almost all the fast passes I wanted, but they went super fast. It’ll be fun to experience evening EMH at MK no matter what :)

Yeah I got to make my fast passes already because I booked a Club level room and purchased the extra fast passes so I got to book them all at once and no stress as they booked them for me in the order and times I wanted. I knew with a short trip during a busy time we might not get all the ones we wanted as to why I decided to do this. Either way it's going to be fun!

I rode the magic carpets four times in a row during the fireworks on 1/24. Then went to Jungle Cruise and Pirates. The atmosphere was really cool. It was much more crowded over in Fantasyland and Tomorrowland later when I got over there.

After dark, I love BTMRR, People Mover, and Jungle Cruise because they feel entirely different when it is dark out. I also enjoy Pirates, and Haunted Mansion, just because entering these attractions after dark gives them a whole different feel.
