Your experience on dental IV sedation?…

I am not a great dental patient.

I had to get a wisdom tooth pulled and opted for IV sedation. I remember them sticking my arm and then I don't remember anything until about 4 hours later despite the procedure lasting about 30 minutes.

I apparently walked out of the office, got in the car with my wife, walked up stairs to the theater room, and watched TV for hours. None of which I remember at all.

I highly recommend the valium I was given to take a couple hours prior to the procedure. Highly recommend. I now know why people abuse prescription drugs. I felt GOOD!
I had Valium IV sedation in addition to the Valium I took that morning, I was awake during the whole removal of my wisdom teeth. My jaw was numbed so zero pain, but I loved the whole thing and was sorry when it was over.🤣

This is why dentists should not be doing sedation in their office. At a minimum they should have a nurse anesthetist or anesthesiologist doing the sedation. Does the dentist have resuscitation equipment for emrgencies?

AustinTink should have been sent to the hospital not sit in the office all day. That dentist should have their license pulled.
I wish I had reported it, but I was young and dumb.

I have extreme dental anxiety and have had IV sedation a couple times. Apparently you can communicate with them and follow instructions etc., but I don't remember any of it. My dental office has assistants trained in sedation and all she does is monitor vitals during the whole procedure and note the sedation etc. So there were 3 in the room with me each time - dentist, assistant and then sedation assistant. I have no memory of any of the procedures or for few hours following them. Usually go home to nap after so i don't make phone calls etc. with no recollection of them and then after nap seem to feel back to myself other then a bit tired.

I had it for wisdom teeth removal. Do not recall feeling anything. Told to count backwards from 100, don’t think I made it to 90 before I was out.

I have extreme dental anxiety. In early June, I had to have a tooth extracted and a deep cleaning. I had oral sedation. I took two pills (Triazolam) an hour before the appointment (had to have someone else drive, of course) and was supposed to take a third pill when I got there. I honestly do not remember any of it. I didn’t even have to take that third pill. So, I think the IV sedation will definitely put you out. You’ll be fine.

Good luck!

You should be completely asleep. I had to have a bad root canal done and the first day the endodontist tried with a pill (something like Valium). I don't remember anything but apparently I was screaming and fighting for my life. Had to be stopped. Then upgraded to i.v. and I was sound asleep.

While the topic is fine to discuss among ourselves who are still active participants, the OP who originally started this thread only posted a grand total of 3 times and hasn't posted in over a year.
