your dream desighner handbag....

I have some Coach, Kate Spade, Marc Jacobs, Burberry for sell. Only the coach and burberry are on my ebay right now.

Can I ask this without people getting upset? Why are these bags so much better than a purse I'd buy for $20-$30?
I'm not trying to be argumentative, I'm just honestly curious? It was never in my familiy's culture to spend money on that type of thing.. so I truly am wondering.

I don't get upset at this question. I guess basically, purses are "my thing". I'm not into fancy cars, don't drink hardly at all, don't smoke, color my hair at home. We usually only go to the movies when we have free tickets from My Coke Rewards, and don't eat out much. I'm not into designer clothes (shoes some). But I love purses. I won't spend much on other things, but this is the one thing I love and will save up to splurge on.

I am so glad that I had bought a couple of Judith Lieber clutches and some cuff links many years ago. I went to The Beau Rivage recently and saw 2 JL cluthes that were selling for over 2000.00 a piece. The other one was over 4000.00.
So glad that someone else even know what Judith Lieber bags are. I bought one at full price 20 years ago when I got a big promotion - I think it was $400.

Have you ever seen the J Tiras bags? They used to do a traveling show. Very, very good quality along the lines of a Judith Lieber - but I've noticed that now they are doing embossed leather instead of real lizard. I bought one online a few years ago that was very nice.

Of course I know the handbags by Judith Lieber.;)

I haven't seen J Tiras bags for years but I am sorry to hear that they are using embossed leather.

I hate when companies choose to replace high quality items for cheaper materials for mass marketing purposes. Don't they realize that their products no longer have the same appeal to those who pay more for quality?

i adore my coach bag. it's small, black, and simple, but i absolutely love it and it puts up well with my, er, active lifestyle. :drinking1
also, the $30 wristlet i bought was an excellent investment!!

i also wanted to mention this website - bagborroworsteal dot com (idk if it's allowed by the mods or not). i would LOOOOVE to be able to afford this service - you basically rent designer handbags for a fee. As i'm looking at the site, they've added sunglasses and jewelry too!! They've been around for a few years now, so i'm assuming they're not a crappy company.

Just a heads up, I was in Marshall's the other day and they had a huge selection of Coach and Dooney bags. I was shocked to see Coach there!

Hermes Kelly. I got one at a super price when the local Hermes store closed a long, long time ago. It still looks great.

For the person who asked what's the difference between a $20 handbag and a more expensive handbag, the difference is that you can carry an expensive handbag for years and if you take care of it, it'll probably still look great.

I never thought of Coach as being either expensive or designer, but if it is, then I have a 20 year old Coach briefcase - I still use it and abuse it, and it still get lots of compliments.

I've seen a lot of coach and D&B bags at TJMaxx and Marshalls recently. Also some really Michael Korrs bags that I'd love but can't justify right now.

I was a tjmaxx today and saw a few cute Michael korrs bags for about $155

Assuming you want a bag that will last a while, I would go with a Dooney. I have lots of Coach bags and notice that my most recent purchase, the Carly, is fraying a little at the seams. Not good. Most of my Dooney and Bourkes are still in excellent condition. D&B is great because if your bag wears out, you can send it back to them and they will repair it or give you a credit towards another bag. You wind up with "purse equity." I just bought a Michael Kors bag for the summer, but it is my first one so I don't know how it will last yet. My most enduring bag is a Fendi purchased in 1995 at the duty free in Barbados. It is still going strong!

Really? How do you do this? I thought it was only 2 years. I bought a D&B Tassel bag that I use almost everyday, I got it about four years ago and the bottom corners where the bag slouches are worn through.

Classic brown coach. I LOVE it. Hubby got me one for christmas last year and I use it every day.

My fave designer handbags are Coach, I love em' as Avatar says. I have 15 of them. I usually purchase 2 a year, one myself and the other a gift from my husband. Not only do I get the purses but I have a rule: For each purse I have to get some sort of assesory to match; a wallet, a coin purse, wristlet, key chain something. Oh, and I name all of my purses, the one I'm carring now is Carmen because of her color.

T.

Wow, you could be my twin. The one I have now is names Classy, because she's a classic brown, sleek, smooth.... I love her. :rolleyes1

Summerluvv--

Email D&B via their website and tell them that you have a bag that is wearing out and that you want it repaired or replaced. You ship them the bag and they evaluate it. If they can fix it, they will. If they can't, they will offer you a credit. In my case, a large signature sac from 2002 was wearing out around the zipper. I sent it to them, they couldn't fix, so they sent me a letter with a credit of $97.50 towards a new Dooney.
