Your choice of NEW off property resort?

I know it's highly unlikely that there will be another off property resort built. But in the thread about Eagle Pines there were several people who really want more off-property resorts. After all you can only do the parks so much, then you want something else. Whenever DH and I go to WDW without grandkids, we don't go to the parks. We golf and find other things to do within a couple of hours' drive. I like VB, but would have preferred the gulf coast. Haven't been to HH yet, but the fact that it's not on the water is a negative for me. Years before joining DVC, we went to Hilton Head and stayed in a hotel. We liked the area and plan to return someday.

I know we can always trade to other resorts through II, but a DVC resort somewhere else would be nice.

Is there any place in particular that you think a DVC resort would do well? Someplace where there is already a draw for tourists?

I realize there are folks out there who would like an off-property resort, in the mountains, west coast, New England etc. But IMHO it ain't going to happen. DVC experience with the slow sale of VB and HH is the reason why when you compare it to the sales of BCV, BWV, WLV, OKW and even now with SSR. They learned their lesson.
Besides, they offer exchanges to all these other areas in the world without investing a penny. You can just cough up the points and enjoy.

I'd ahve to agree with Kybill. I think the fact that they alllow trading thought he other timeshare companies is their way of letting you go to other places.

I think their thought at HH and VB was to try the off-site market in 2 areas that woudl be draws, and they weren't terribly brisk in their sale of the off-sites. VB is a great resort..we just visited my DSIL a few weeks agoa nd she doesn't live far from it, so naturally we took a stroll through!!!...and I am sure that there are folks who do the "relax on the beach and then go to WDW"(or vice versa)thing, but the sales were slow, which indicated that DVCers want to be on site.

I also agree with KyBill and Disney Doll, but can you imagine trying to get into HH and VB at the 7 month window, when there are 100,000 DVC members in a few years.

I have to agree with the others, I would be surprised if Disney builds anymore off site DVC resorts. They tried and they created 2 beautiful resorts that I am thrilled to have, but I think it is much easier and more profitable for Disney to maintain and sell resorts on site. I can see them building a DVC resort at Disneyland before them building another free standing DVC resort off site.

I agree with the others regarding the likelihood of another off-site reosrt. However, it there were to be one, our best shot would be an off-site resort at one of the other Disney parks (DL, DLP, TDL, DLHK). But since Marriott built on the DL and DLP sites, and Disney does not own TDL, I suspect this too is only wistful dreaming.

But I would enjoy it if they did. Then I could plan my grand tour trip of the Disney parks all through DVC. This is one of my retirement dreams

Though I would still prefer VAKL to be built on site first.

I don't think they will either, but I think they would do well to build one in the northeast where so many owners come from. It would be nice to go to a Disney resort without having to take a plane ride. With the # of purchasers from the mid-Atlantic, I would think such a location would do well--better than Vero or HHI.

While it is possible to trade out a week to other time shares I like the flexability of DVC. I like the ability to go 2 days or 6 days or 13 days or whatever I want.

So I'd love to see DVC in Key West, Hawaii, somewhere in the Caribbean, somewhere on the Florida gulf coast.

But I see the problem. While I would like to go to a DVC in Hawaii, I know I wouldn't go every year, or maybe even every 5 years. So I wouldn't want to buy points in it as my home resort. I think a lot of DVC members would occationally go to resorts off WDW property but not want to buy into these as home resorts.

Maybe what they need is something like the 'tropical DVC collection'. This could be serveral small DVC's at tropical locations. You would buy add-on points to the tropical collection and get the 11 month window at any of them.

Just a thought.

I would agree on the unlikelylood of DVC building another offsite resort... I would love to have one, but it is highly improbable.

As far as using our points for trades such as World Passport, Concierge, Adventure, or Disney Collections to get offsite, remember that these costs are rising slowly through the years... In 10 years time, a trade that might have cost 200 pts now might then cost 400pts...

The old adage proves true.. Buy where you want to stay....

My family loves BWV and VB! Wouldn't trade them for anything, but... In my mind, I have a hard time justifying buying more points for a resort that is located in or near Orlando.. I think DVC offers a great product in terms of flexibilty of use.. I just wish every now and then that they offered more offsite options..

Here are a few that I came up with:

• Las Vegas
• Poconos
• Disneyland, CA
• Disneyland Paris
• Near Yellowstone National Park.. (Wilderness lodge to the EXTREME.. )

If I read the OP's question correctly, they are not asking how likely, but if it would ever occur what location others wouild be interedted in.

Ok, so possible locations, hmmmm.....

Washington DC and the historical areas (preferably on the subway line)
Williamsburg area
Grand Canyon
Texas Coast
New York

The Walt Disney DVC Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada!!! When DW and I won't be going to our (newly purchased) SSR, we'll probably be off to LV.

The mind boggles:
Dealers with Mouse Ears;
Slots with all the Disney characters;
Getting a comp from Goofy;
Cocktail Waitresses dressed like Jessica Rabbit (red hair and all!)

Is it too late to change my home resort?

You can get fabulous hotels rooms in Vegas pretty cheap.

How about a year round resort in Colorado, with skiing and other mountain activities, like Estes Park area.
