Your Cheapest Food Budget for staying offsite

If you are going during FD, here is what I just priced out using November 13-19 for six nights:

PO RS, 2A, C12, C11, C3 STD ROOM 7D MYW BASE TICKET FREE DDP= $2,414

ASMU FAMILY SUITE, 3A, C12, C11, C3 STD ROOM 7D MYW BASE TICKET FREE QSDP = $3,041

The difference in the price would be right around $600, HOWEVER, you would all have the QSDP instead of the regular DP. The cost to upgrade, I believe, is $11/night/adult. The children's plans are the same, I believe. So, for 3 adults for six nights, $11 x 3 x 6 = $198.

$3041 + $198 = $3239

Original cost without your sis = $2414

Difference = $825

Plus, by staying at ASMU instead of PO RS, you will have two bathrooms, a mini fridge and microwave.

SO, above and beyond the $600 your sis is willing to shell out, is only $225, and that covers all meals and snacks on the REGULAR dining plan, as well as park tickets. I really think it would cost her more than $600 for her park ticket and food OOP alone, so this really seems reasonable to me.

10 day tickets for the 5 of us is $1,287, if I can get one of these condos that I've seen floating around for $300 for the wk which is around $42 night which would be about $515 after taxes and stuff, I could pay like $300 of that and I'm only at $1600 that leaves me with $800 to work with compared to the $2400 for POR. Hmmmm.....that is sounding rather interesting....

$800 minus:

rental car/gas/daily parking fees at the parks

all meals

EMH

extra time by staying offsite.

Every time I consider staying offsite, it sounds so much cheaper/better at first, but then I think, I am a DW, I don't want to hang out in a big condo and think about cooking or budgeting meals, I want a clean place to sleep, the flexibility to hop on a bus going to whichever park suits me, and eating whatever I'd like on the dining plan. Hence, I always end up on site.

Good luck with your decision, going to DW is great no matter where you stay, and having your sis with you means, maybe, a night alone for you and DH???

We'll be driving down anyways, but I did forget parking fees and gas so parking would be another $150(my sis could probably pay for some of this though)

I would do most meals in the condo, I don't mind cooking/cleaning, plus I'll have my sis to help lol

Last time we went I couldn't get my family to take advantage of the EMH, I'd always been able to get them before, but I couldn't get them out of bed and then my dh was ready to go back to the room and relax for night emh :(

My thinking was if we did the 10days instead of the 7days we'd do if staying onsite, that gives me more leisure time, so leaving the parks earlier in the day to go have dinner instead of staying until close wouldn't be a big deal.

yeah I'm just excited to be going I wish it was this year instead of next!

You might want to take along a crockpot since you are driving. That would make cooking a little easier especially if you use those bags for the crockpot. Easy cleanup! I would also plan on paper plates and cups. They are more expensive but gives you more time to relax. If you have a Sam's club or Costco membership you could shop there. I know Sam's club has precooked whole chickens that are great for a meal and leftover chicken is good in sandwiches, casseroles, salads etc.. Your ten day plan sounds good and the memories will be priceless.

Thinking outside the box here.....do you have a Disney Visa? Was thinking if your sister gave you the money for any bills/groceries/shopping/gas, etc. for as much as possible from now until November, you could accumulate quite a bit on rewards on the Disney Visa rewards. That could cut down the difference in cost between what your sister is able to pay and what the cost actually is. Even just reevaluating where you might be able to use your Disney Visa over the months can add up tremendously. A couple of years ago good friends of ours planned a trip to WDW. We encouraged them to get the d.v. when they booked the trip. Then they took a look at EVERYTHING they bought, food, utilities, gas, groceries, etc. They used it just like they would a debit card, keeping careful track so they didn't overspend. They had enough accumulated between October and June to cover four adults at the Cirque show and the boys went parasailing! And they had more later, too!

I would HATE to stay offsite. Money is ALWAYS the issue. I mean no disrespect but if I can't stay onsite I will waaaaait till I have the money saved.:lovestruc

Can't I get tickets somewhere cheaper too? I usually do packages deals but it seems I remember people talking about this, not the Yes program, but it was somewhere else
