BEFORE Thanksgiving!!!




My MIL does this every year=I absolutely can NOT stand having a lit Christmas tree in the living room as we are eating our Thanksgiving Turkey

Sorry...but I think I'm putting mine up tomorrow. My family lives 2000 miles away and we can't get together for BOTH Thanksgiving and Christmas. They are coming over for Thanksgiving and we are exchanging Christmas gifts also. I want to have Christmas decorations for that!

We always used to put up our tree ON Thanksgiving - while the turkey was cooking.. Having the tree decorated and lit during dinner made the holiday seem that much more festive and cozy..

I guess it's not for everyone though..

Oh wait - was I supposed to list a hoiday pet peeve? Mine would be drunks..

I hate to see outdoor Christmas lights turned on before Thanksgiving.

I understand people wanting to put them up early, especially in states where bad weather can set in early some years. But I just don't like seeing them turned on until AFTER Thanksgiving has passed. You have from November 28 - January 1 (or even a few days after) to have your outdoor lights running up your electric bill. Isn't that enough?

Those don't bother me as much. It's that thick plastic packaging that practically has to be opened with a chain saw that is so obnoxious.

My tree is up (as of today) and my outside lights have been up for 3 weeks-and we are going to start turning them on tomorrow!

"Some assembly required"

This brings back horrors of a terrible Christmas day I had about 6 years ago. DS9 and DS11 were 3 and 5, and they had had some godawful flu thing the week leading up to Christmas. DH caught it the day before Christmas Eve, so we didn't even try to drive to Michigan for the 12 hour car trip. That was the good part. The bad part was that he dragged himself out of bed to watch them open presents, then immediately went back to bed leaving me with 4 "some assembly required", 3 Hotwheels sets, 2 kids-a-screaming to put all together simultaneously, and a Mommy with a big headache.


I also put my tree up before Thanksgiving so I don't have to feel rushed about getting it all done. We usually jog down to WDW for a few days before Christmas, so my decorating time between Thanksgiving and Christmas are fewer. I love a house that is decorated to the nines with Christmas while we are having Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving decorations are boring.

Toys that require batteries and you never have enough. Please, if you give a gift that needs batteries, buy the batteries too!

Relatives that can't decide whether or not they are going to bless us with their presence until the day before.

Relatives that bring along 2-3 extra guests and don't tell me, including children, whom I would have purchased a small gift for had I known they would be here.

Relatives who can't drive to my house (45 minutes away) on the invited day, because it snowed one inch overnight, and they have lived in WI their ENTIRE life!! We are used to snow!!

So, my biggest pet peeve would be my RELATIVES!! Can't pick them, that's for sure!

Last year, we said to heck with them all and went to Disney!! I wish we could this year too.

I guess you don't want to come over and see all the decorations I have up now huh? I have two trees up but not turned on, my mantle is done, a couple of the railings have the garland and bows, my table is decorated, and tomorrow Im working on the rest of the house.

My husband left for a 6 month tdy this past week and I asked him to bring everything out of the basement so I didn't have to haul everything myself. He may get a week home for Christmas and I wanted it to look great and ready without stress when he comes home.

I think it's great for whoever has their trees, lights and decorations up already, but please don't look at me or make comments that you can't believe I don't...
Got that twice already this year.
