My best tip: the exhaust sensor. I know you are going for it but here's the tip. Most people give up after only a few shots to the exhaust. They shoot when they first get out of the scanner and then stop when the car turns away from them. My tip: Turn around and keep hitting the exhaust. It's actually easier to hit when the other car is sideways from you. Hit it, then move the gun just a tiny fraction of an inch and then back on to shoot it again. I've hit the exhaust as much as 20 times. My average is 15 times. At 20,000 points for each hit you can see how it can add up quickly.
Also make sure you get the 100,000 bonus points at the end. My family can get more points by shooting the sensors on the big, big bug but as a novice, you really need that 100,000 so forget the bug sensors and just go for the bonus. Many people wait too long to hit the red button for the bonus. If I'm not still shooting the exhaust when I turn the corner into the big bug, I just hold the red button down as soon as I see the big bug. Don't let up on the button, hold it down until you see the bonus flashing on your score.
Also keep the trigger pulled all through the game (except during the scanners.) My trigger finger gets tired so now I hold the gun with both hands and put one index finger on the trigger and the other index finger over the top of the other finger so my finger doesn't get tired.
We are meeting several MIB fans from IOA Central on Saturday for a ride-athon. If you can make it Saturday, we can help you. Leave your son at home---tell him you're going shopping (evil cackle.) Then you can come home as a pro.
