My neighbor is hosting a bunco party at her house on Friday and the flyer that she put in our mailbox says bring a potluck dish. I will call her later and find out if she is needs anything in particular, but does anyone have a favorite tasty dish that I can put together after work and bring? Thanks!

I'm always on the lookout for tried and true yummy recipes.

For this time of year I like to make pasta salad or have some fruit salad or veggies and dip.

I took DH's DGM's Spanish Rice to a Cub Scout dinner and everyone loved it.

I always make Broccoli Slaw with the Ramen Noodles! I never have leftovers! :sad2:

I have a few casserole recipes that are tasty for pot lucks. If that is what you need, let me know and I will post one of my favorites.

A salad is a good idea since it's so hot these days here. Taco dip or salad sounds very tasty and easy. I think I can do that without a recipe. Great idea!

lewdyan1 - What's your recipe for the slaw? That sounds like something I would like to learn to make for any occasion, picnics, etc.

I know there have posts about this kind of slaw and others might have variations...

This is the recipe I use and it is always a hit!

1 package of Broccoli Slaw
scallions cut up small
2 cups of slivered almonds - toasted
2 packs of Ramen Noodles (Chicken flavored)
1 tablespoon of sesamee seeds (optional) - toasted with the almonds

Break up the noodles (uncooked) into small pieces, I use a meat hammer. Combine slaw, almonds, noodles, scallions and sesamee seeds into a bowl.

The dressing is:
1/2 cup of vegetable oil
1/3 apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup of sugar (I usually don't use the whole amount)
the Ramen Noodle flavor packets.

Mix the above together in a small bowl, dress right before serving!

Enjoy!

That sounds awesome, thank you! I've copied it down for my collection. I just might make that for the bunco party.

I love this recipe ....

Tortellini Salad with Garden Vegetables
1 lb. frozen or refrigerated tortellini
1/2 yellow or red bell pepper, diced
1 small zucchini, julienne
1 cup frozen peas, thawed
1/2 small red onion, chopped
3/4 cup creamy Italian salad dressing

Cook tortellini according to package directions just until tender. Drain. Rinse under cold running water and drain again. Combine all ingredients and toss well. Serve at room temperature or chilled.

That sounds wonderful too! I am copying all these down to keep for the future. It's always nice to get favorites from people all over the country and to branch out and try something new instead of making the same old things. (And it limits someone else bringing the same dish to a party!)

Keep em coming, maybe we should change this thread to be a potluck recipe swap!

I've changed this thread title. I thought it would be helpful and fun if people could post their best potluck recipes. Everyone has their special recipe that they are known for and everyone loves, please share!

This sounds great! I am trying it this weekend!

Chili Tamale Dip

2 cans Hormel or Dennisons chili with or without beans. (depends on how filling you want it to be)

2 cans Gebharts or Hormel Tamales

2 cups shredded Chedder Cheese

Empty cans into 9x13 baking dish and chop up tamales in pieces. Stir to mix.
Bake in 350-375 oven for 20-25mins or till edges are bubbly. Take out, stir and top with cheese. Use more or less to your liking. You can also top with chopped olives.
Place back in oven til cheese melts and then serve with tortilla chips.

This is very addicting and hard to get away from the table once you set it down!

I'm planning on making taco salad for dinner this weekend. I add a few more things to mine.

black beans
black olives
corn
sweet onion
cucumber
avocado
salsa
sour cream

Oh, I'm so hungry for it now. I wish I could make it tonight, but my avocado isn't ripe yet.

my girl scout troop is in charge of the theme and activities for the fall camporee. We've decided to go with a retro theme, and one of the activities is to make snacks that were popular in the 50's, 60's , and 70's. Any ideas :flower: ? oops -wrong thread!!!

There are 2 things I always take to potlucks and NEVER bring home leftovers.

1. Deviled eggs (or double eggs as my DD6 calls them)

2. Homemade toll house cookies (I use butter and mix all by hand). These are especially popular if there are kids in attendance.

How about the bacon wrapped water chestnuts with the sweet sauce? I have to find the sauce recipe and get back to you though..

Here's my easy one for a party:

Take a wheel of brie and slice in half horizontally. Spread apricot jam on the bottom half and sliced almonds. Place the top half back on and wrap the cheese in unrolled sheet of crescent rolls. Brush top with egg wash and add more sliced almonds on top. Bake in the oven for 30 minutes on 350 or until golden brown. I do a platter with grapes, assorted crackers, apple slices, peach slices.

I always get oohs and ahhs with this one.
