One of my High School students has been invited to a large convention in July to audition for various companies that put on shows. She is a very good dancer that has passed initial screeners locally. Any advice for her from current show members on how to get to be in a Disney show would be appreciated. I think she believes Disney shows would be a good stepping stone to larger parts.

WDW has a college program that might be just the thing for your student. I believe you can find it through the Disney website.

The college I went to had a pretty big dance school. Every year they posted information about when and where the Disney dance auditions were being held. I was in Oklahoma City at the time, but I think the students usually had to travel to Dallas (if I remember right) for the auditions. Disney usually only hires people on a yearly basis, but I believe that there is also a summer program for dance/theater people. I know my cousins worked at Epcot running lights for a summer.

I found this information in the Disney careers section:

Please call the audition hotline for specific details at (407) 397-3220†, Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.- 5 p.m., except holidays.

Disney Auditions
P.O. Box 10000
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830-1000

The calendar online only listed dates for November, so she would probably need to call and get a schedule. If I remember right from friends who auditioned, the spring was when a lot of them happened. I would recommend calling or writing soon as she will probably have to travel for the auditions.

Hope this helps and I wish her the best of luck. Everyone I know who got summer roles at WDW had a blast!

Do the expected but add something unexpected. For instance my daughter did the classical type pieces expected of her but added some fiddle music to her audition to show versatility. She now works for Tokyo Sea. That added touch made her stand out over those who were equally good. Also she has a bubbly personality and backgound in voice and drama as well as playing viola and violin.

Disney hold auditions all the time! Other DISers have already given you the webpage and the audition hotline. She'll need headshots and resume. I'm not sure how Disney does dance auditions though. I've only done character auditions (in which they did teach us a dance routine) and musical theatre auditions (for that you need either 2 contasting songs or a song and a monologue.) Good luck! I dream of doing shows at WDW too- I'll be moving to Orlando in May to try my luck!
