I haven't been on very frequently so I just read the good news. Love her name!

What is up with making Adam, hot in bed with Heather, gay? I thought Philip was supposed to be part of the gay storyline. I'm going to miss Chris - he was perfect in that role.

Thank you:)

from soapcentral.com:
"John was so good during his audition the casting director actually cried," Daytime Confidential reports, citing a Y&R show source.

Driscoll reportedly auditioned opposite Elizabeth Hendrickson (Chloe Mitchell), hinting that there could be some couple shakeups in the near future. Driscoll's alter ego will also share scenes with Adrienne Frantz (Amber Moore) and Christel Khalil (Lily Winters).

This sounds like they've decided NOT to make Phillip IV gay. Which I'm happy about-he was so hot as Coop! But to take an obviously heterosexual character like Adam and overnight "make" him gay is yet another insult to long time viewers, in my opinion!

Also, I think it will be funny seeing him with Vicki and JT. Not only will JT be only slightly older than him if the rumor is true that he is Nina's missing older son, but Vicki was almost this boy's stepmother (Ryan was the only father he ever knew).

It's still so confusing what's up with the return of Philip III and Philip IV; who will be gay; both of them?

I've heard that Thom Bierdz was only willing to come back as Philip the III if he could play his character openly gay so.....

Now I read that John Driscoll has been cast as Philip the IV and was rumored to be gay too??

More confusion. Can't wait to see how it all plays out.

From the rumors I read, it only said that Rafe would kiss Adam and thus he quit; a kiss from Rafe doesn't make the character of Adam gay though but who knows what they were really planning. :confused3

i'm getting the feeling that cain is full of s

it's starting to sound like everything he says is bunk

PHILLIP IS ALIVE???????

holy cow - what did i miss????

when did phillip come back to life????

I missed it too (was in the hospital the day after Katie was born and my parents' pastor came to visit so I turned it off). My sister called me later that day flipping out over it! The last scene of that Friday's show (May 15) was Cain flashing back to that long ago phone call with "Uncle Langley." Only this time, they showed who he was talking to, and it was Phillip III! From what I've read, he didn't ask to come back as a gay character, but as an openly gay actor. Seems the reason he was killed off 20 yrs ago was due to the backlash about him coming out-now gay actors are out all over the place.

Nina's son is Phillip IV, and while he may be gay, there could have been some confusion over the stories, since no one knew Phillip III was being brought back until a few days before he actually appeared onscreen. I've read that no one in the cast even knew until that week, since he filmed alone on a closed set.

holy crap. i didn't even know he was gay in real life. and with everone down that line being called phillip i thought the "gay" character was nina's son.

well colour me shocked.

how on earth are they going to explain he's miracle come back? wait let me guess - it wasn't really him in the car and he was so badly burnt they assumed it was him because it was his car.

guess that means sharron and nicks cassie will be returning very soon

From soapcentral.com

It's been nearly 20 years since Thom Bierdz made his last appearance as a contract player on Y&R. Rather than tout the actor's return to the show, show execs pulled off one of the most surprising returns in daytime history. Why was the actor's turn kept a secret and what's ahead for his "new" character?

It may have been one of the best-kept secrets in recent daytime history. Last week, when Thom Bierdz returned to The Young and the Restless, no one expected it -- and the resulting cliffhanger still has fans talking.

News of Bierdz's impending return to The Young and the Restless broke just a few days before his surprise on-screen appearance -- and it was widely believe that the actor had yet to go into the studio to tape any scenes. Obviously, that was not the case.

"We had decided to do this several months ago, and it was so under wraps. I was told not to tell anybody," Bierdz says in an exclusive interview with Advocate.com.

Long-time fans of The Young and the Restless will remember that Bierdz last appeared on the top-rated CBS soap in 2004 - as a ghost. His on-screen alter ego, Phillip Chancellor III, was killed in a drunk-driving accident back in 1989. That would seemingly explain why Bierdz is currently being called "Langley" on the show -- or has Y&R head writer Maria Arena Bell found a way to resurrect Phillip III?

For his part, Bierdz is keeping his lips sealed. He is not, however, silent about what it means to him to be returning home to Genoa City after two decades away.

"It was really cool coming back to the show, since it's almost been exactly 20 years since I was on as a principal player," Bierdz reveals. "That is shocking and amusing to me; the fact that time goes by so quick. So to come back now as an out gay man and to know that I don't have to hide anything about myself is a great feeling."

But things haven't always been easy for the actor. Shortly after Bierdz exited The Young and the Restless in 1989 to pursue a career in film, his younger brother, Troy, a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic, beat their mother to death with a baseball bat. A decade later, his older brother, Greg, committed suicide. Bierdz chronicles his family tragedies in the best-selling memoir, Forgiving Troy.

In addition to his work as an actor and best-selling author, Bierdz has also found time to write songs and paint.

"I have written 40 songs, 12 scripts, and four novels. I wrote my memoirs. I spent four years making a film. I have got 500 paintings," Bierdz states. "[…] I lie in bed and go, 'OK, what am I going to do today?' I don't get up until I am excited about creating something, and that's what I spend my life doing. Every day I create something. How lucky am I to make a living at that, right?"

For now, acting will probably have to take center stage in Bierdz's menagerie of talents. TVGuide Canada reports that Bierdz signed a one-year contract with The Young and the Restless. There is also talk that a major never-before-done-on-Y&R storyline is looming in the not-too-distant future.

First of all - to the real life stuff...........................

CONGRATS ON YOUR NEW BABY GIRL, DECEMBER!!! LOVE THE AVATAR - SOOOO CUTE!

As for Y&R..................I'm so confused and am finding this show harder to follow than LOST. :confused3

One thing I can always count on is my hatred of Neil and Tyra. And now they are openly dating? Wasn't Neil JUST accusing Karen of moving to fast in filing for divorce? And I can't stand listening to Tyra try to justify all the lies she tells. I really, really can't stand her and don't think I EVER will.

Thanks:goodvibes

I hate Tyra, too! I was almost cheering for Devon today when he said he was through with both of them.

And I know I'm still hormonal, but when Sharon touched the headstone and said "bye baby" I almost lost it!

Oh, I can't STAND Tyra! There is just something about this chick that bugs the hell out of me!

I laughed when I read "bugs"-it is those dang bug eyes of hers!

The baby is sleeping alot today, and I'm bored! Here is an interview with Rafe:

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Isaac Newton and soap operas don't usually end up in the same sentence, but this time there's a reason for it. While much attention is focused on Chris Engen walking out after learning his Y&R character would be kissing another man, newcomer Yani Gellman has a completely different reaction to playing a gay character.

With all the hubbub surrounding Chris Engen's departure from The Young and the Restless, many fans have forgotten that in order for there to be a guy-on-guy kiss, there has to be another male character involved. In a candid interview, newcomer Yani Gellman (Rafe Torres) talks about what it means to be the first major gay character on television's highest-rated soap opera.

"I didn't know [Rafe was gay when I first auditioned]," Gellman tells Out.com's Nelson Branco, who soap fans will also know from his work for TVGuide Canada. "All I knew was that he was a young lawyer. I was on the show for a month or so before the producers called me in for a meeting to discuss the direction they wanted to take Rafe, and I was cool with it."

Gellman's reaction would appear to be completely opposite to Engen's reaction. Setside sources report that upon learning that his character, Adam Wilson, had to share a lip lock with Gellman's Rafe, Engen exploded and walked off the set. For fans wondering why the writers would suddenly "make" Adam gay, there is new information hinting that that's not what the writers are up to. According to at least one show snitch, Adam and Rafe's kiss has more to do with blackmail and buying someone's silence than it does with homosexuality.

Gellman refers to Rafe as a "landmark role" for The Young and the Restless and adds that "it's about time" that the show tackled the subject of homosexuality. Gellman states that he has several gay family members, and some of his friends are also part of the gay community.

This is the first daytime role for the Miami-born Gellman, who claims Toronto, Canada as his home. Prior to his first Y&R appearance in December 2008, Gellman appeared in a handful of other television projects. From 2006 to 2007, Gellman appeared as Antonio on the Canadian TV series, Monster Warriors. He also appeared in the made-for-television film, The Matthew Shepard Story, which was based on the real-life slaying of a gay teen in Colorado. Gellman also appeared on the silver screen in the 2003 release of Disney's The Lizzie McGuire Movie, for which he also recorded a song for the movie's official soundtrack.

I was hoping this would clear things up, but it doesn't. So there is a body in Phillip's grave-wonder who it is? I watched back then, but was a teen, and I don't remember the actuall death scenes!

Phillip Foster Chancellor III

Born December 25, 1976
Returned from boarding school in 1986 and was aged to 16.
In 2007, when Cane returned his age was changed to age 31.

Brief Character History

Phillip Chancellor III was the love child of Jill Foster and Phillip Chancellor II, as Phillip's father was married to Katherine at the time of conception. Though Jill and Phillip II were married on his deathbed, Katherine had the marriage legally invalidated, stopping any inheritance to Jill or her son-and use of the Chancellor name.

Between her job at Jabot and her efforts to secure a future for her son by always getting involved with yet another rich man, Jill had little time for "Little Phillip." Her mother Liz practically raised him herself. Once Jill had snagged and married John Abbott, and she could afford it, Phillip was shipped off to a Swiss boarding school.

In 1986 Phillip Foster returned from boarding school for the summer as a teenager with an inferiority complex and a drinking problem, apparently caused by his resentment of Jill for dumping him there. Rather than move into Jill's hotel suite, where she was living since her divorce from John Abbott, Phillip chose to stay with Jill's nemesis Kay Chancellor at the Chancellor estate. Kay persuaded Phillip to enroll at Genoa City University rather than return to boarding school in the fall. This enraged Jill so much, she fought for custody, which brought out all the ugly secrets surrounding Phillip's birth and Kay's revenge of taking away his Chancellor birthright. Because Phillip expressed that the security and attention he got from Kay he had never had with Jill, the judge granted Kay temporary custody. Phillip forgave Kay and no longer felt the need to drink. Kay arranged for his name to be legally changed to Phillip Chancellor III.

Phillip was befriended by Cricket Blair and Nina Webster, who were best friends. Phillip fell for Cricket, but didn't think he could compete with rock star Danny Romalotti. Nina campaigned heavily for Phillip, but lost when Danny decided Cricket was too young to be involved with only him. During Phillip and Cricket's romance, Phillip began drinking again for confidence. One evening, they had an accident while Phillip was driving drunk, but Cricket told the police she was driving to keep him from being arrested again. The negative publicity nearly cost Cricket her job as the Jabot Junior model. But Phillip, who had no recollection of the accident, turned himself in after Danny told him what actually happened. Cricket temporarily moved into the Chancellor estate to lend Phillip motional support in his struggle to quit drinking. One evening, while Cricket was enjoying an innocent visit with Danny, Nina got Phillip drunk and seduced him. Then Phillip and Danny both proposed marriage to Cricket. After Cricket decided to accept Phillip's proposal, Nina broke the news that she was pregnant with Phillip's baby, much to both Kay and Jill's horror.

Kay and Jill teamed up, allowing Nina to live in Kay's attic, while they schemed to keep Nina from ruining Phillip's life. Once Phillip IV was born, they tried to prove the baby was not his, offered her money to move away, and arranged for Chase Benson to romance her so they could charge her with neglect. All failed because tests proved the child was Phillip's, and Nina believed that he would eventually marry her. A critical illness of baby Phillip, and Nina's transformation by Cricket, Rex, and Danny from a street urchin to a mannered young lady made Phillip change his attitude toward Nina. But it was his mother Jill's nasty hostile attitude toward Nina that made Phillip become protective and eventually fall in love with and marry her.

Phillip quit college and went to work at Chancellor Industries. The demands of being a husband and father eventually turned him back to alcohol. In a shocking turn of events, on the way home from an office party, Phillip, driving drunk again, crashed his sports car and was killed. Jill held Nina responsible for Phillip's death and challenged her right to his inheritance. The judge ruled that Phillip's estate would be put into a trust for baby Phillip, to be administered by Nina. He also let Nina decide visitation terms for Jill with her grandson.

In 2007, shortly after getting a DNA test that confirmed Jill was indeed her daughter, Katherine began having disturbing nightmares of a baby crying. Through the help of psychic Silvia Brown, whose card reading turned into a séance with Jill's dead son Phillip, Kay began to remember a ring and a scene where she was handing over a baby. When it finally came back to her, she was forced to reveal to Jill that Kay had switched her son Phillip for another baby shortly after his birth, and had given a woman named Violet an expensive ring to secure the deal. Because of her heavy drinking and shame, Kay had blocked this out all these years. Jill was torn between being livid with Kay and relieved that her son Phillip was not dead after all. They hired JT to try to track down the real Phillip Chancellor III. And Amber Moore also did her own research consulting tarot cards and psychics, and the Internet. Amber found Cane, whose adopted mother was named Violet. He was searching for his mother and came to Genoa City from Australia on her lead. Amber and Cane got cozy, and after she discovered the possible link to the Chancellor millions, she took him to Vegas to get married, supposedly to keep him from being deported back to Australia. At the last minute, Cane decided against the marriage, so Amber drugged him and got her friend Ali to take his place in disguise, telling him he was too drunk to remember being married the next morning. A DNA test later proved him to be the real Phillip Chancellor, son of Jill. Phillips' body was exhumed and found not to be Jill's biological son. It is unknown who Phillip really belonged to.

In 2009 another DNA test proved that Katherine and Jill were not a match, but Brock was confirmed as her son, so untimately Jill was not Kay's daughter and Jill's true parents are unknown.

Wow-just found this! I hope this gets worked out ASAP!

Is Melody Thomas Scott prepared to leave The Young and the Restless, a soap she's called home for 30 years? According to published reports, the actress is unhappy with being asked to take a salary cut or be dropped to recurring status. This isn't the first time Scott's future with the CBS soap has been in question.

There is word that yet another contract flap is brewing at The Young and the Restless. In March, Jess Walton (Jill Abbott) walked off the set after being asked to accept a lower salary. Now comes word that Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman) is also unhappy about being asked to take a pay cut.

According to TVGuide Canada's Nelson Branco, Thomas was "asked to accept a 30-40 percent pay cut, the norm at Y&R, but she refused."

After Scott's refusal, the show told the actress that she'd be dropped to recurring status. According to sources, the actress declined to be taken off contract as well.

Being placed on recurring status isn't the death knell it used to be -- at least on the CBS soaps. One of Scott's co-stars, Tracey E. Bregman (Lauren Fenmore) has been on recurring status with the show for years and she hasn't hurt for story. In fact, Bregman scored a Daytime Emmy nomination last year in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category.

This is not the first time that Scott has been involved in a contract scandal.

Eight years ago this month, Scott was rumored to be leaving The Young and the Restless for ABC's Port Charles. The reason, according to an insider at the time, was that the actress was "disappointed that she'[d] been relegated to backburner status." A few months later, Scott was spotted cleaning out her dressing room, prompting speculation that she'd quite literally left the building.

By August 2001, CBS issued a statement announcing that Scott would remain a part of the Y&R cast, but the network declined to elaborate any further.

In February, Scott marked her 30th anniversary as The Young and the Restless' Nikki Newman.

I heard about Melody wanting to leave a few weeks ago. I'm thinking since Jess Walton threatened to leave due to money has gotten her ready to bolt. I guess we will see!

ok - so - when it comes out that Phillip is really alive and faked his own death (for reasons unknown) and he most likely got amnesia (sp) which would be why he never returned to his son and wife it will come out that somehow someone took him in and he made his way over to Aus. where Cain's uncle (be him nice or conniving) pieced it together (god knows how he'd have done that) that this guy is actually Phillip Chancellor 3rd and is worth billions so he cooked up this scheme to have Cain (nephew or someone he hired) to go over and pretend to be Jills son.

now - it will (i'll bet you) come out that Phillip really is Jills son through more DNA that for some reason always seem to be wrong in soaps but 99.9999999999999% accurate on every other show and there will be a big huge family reunion and we'll finally get to see PHillip 4th

this is all well and good except how they will now explain Kay's memory of switching the baby - is she going to remember that she switched them back so no harm no foul???

and as for the body in Phillip's grave it'll turn out to be the poor schmuck Phillip smashed into who was either homeless or some criminal who's on the lamb for escaping jail or something which is why no-one knew he was missing. FOR 20 YEARS

so Phillip will come back - start a relationship with ralph or whoever (i have no idea who this guy is - come to think of it i can't even think who Mac's new BF was back in the 80's/90's)

ok - my brain officially hurts now - i'm glad i don't write for soaps but i sure wish they would look up back history before changing dna reports and past storylines.

oh 1 more thing.

STOP MAKING FAKE "MEMORIES" by making new actors "pretend" to go back in time to "film" past sceens so it looks like the current acters memories. it's driving me nuts.

thank god Nina and Phillip are played by the same people

I'm through after this post for the night!

I just read an interview on a gay men's website (linked from soapcentral.com-I as going to post the link but closed it before I thought about it!) with Phillip III. Apparently, he left Y&R 20 yrs ago after his 3 yr contract was up to pursue other acting jobs-he didn't come out as gay until years later. He says he doesn't know if P3 will be gay, since he hasn't seen any scripts for that far ahead, but you can tell he is kind of hoping for it (reading between the lines). He wouldn't say much-seems he has been sworn to secrecy!

Also, Summer has been SORASed again! She is going to be played by a 7.5 yr old (pics here: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2538904/). She's cute, but how can Summer be 7 if Cassie has only been dead for 4 yrs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And will Fenn also be 7?
