Hi:

I was hoping there would be some advice on the Canadian thread but I couldn't find anything. My DD and I are going to Disney (and Harry Potter) in mid-February. There are several evening things that look interesting, like Jellyrolls, but it says that entrance is restricted to 21+. Do they care at door or is this just a way to keep underage drinkers away. She has, of course, been of legal drinking age for quite a bit up here but the drinking isn't the real issue - it's how to know where we can go at night that won't exclude her simply because of her age.

Thanks

It's rough because the US drinking age is later and that is what they are focusing on. As the PP said, they will card.

Yes they check Ids at the door as any other place will do in the us if there is an age restriction.

If the rule is 21 and over, then yes, she will be excluded because of her age. Jellyrolls will be a no go.

Jellyrolls will not allow anybody under 21 inside, whether they plan on drinking or not. I think Atlantic Dance is the same. Everywhere else at WDW I think you are good. At Universal, you might run into age restrictions at night at CityWalk but I'm not sure about there. i take it she is older than 18 but younger than 21. I think Splitsville upstairs is 18 and up after 10 PM on weekends, at DTD.

Yes, they will card her. In the United States, there is no national drinking age, it's set by each state. It just so happens all 50 states have a legal drinking age of 21 since federal funds for road improvement would not be available if the age is dropped, or more correctly quite a few years ago, if the age was not raised to 21. So, each state has their own requirements for enforcing the drinking age. I'm not sure what Florida's requirements are but I would assume Disney does not want to get busted for allowing anyone under the age of 21 to purchase or consume an alcoholic drink. Even if your daughter doesn't have an alcoholic drink and you do, that still might be against the law in Florida.

Your daughter can go anywhere alcohol is served unless the entire place is age restricted to 21 and up such as Jellyrolls, and at WDW I am pretty sure that is only Jellyrolls and Atlantic Dance. (Just to note, Jellyrolls is not operated by Disney. I'm not sure about Atlantic Dance) She wont' be served alcohol but it will be absolutely no problem at all if you have alcohol and she doesn't. If they catch you giving her alcohol, even if it is legal in your home country for her to purchase and consume alcohol, they can ask you to leave the establishment or the park. It appears there are serious penalties in Florida (as there are in other states) for establishments that are caught serving alcoholic beverages to persons under 21.

Thanks everyone. I think then that we won't even bother going over to the Boardwalk. There will be lots to do and see in Epcot or other parks anyway. We have a 6 day park hopper so I expect we will be able to see/do whatever we like. I already knew that she can't get into to any of the good music places at Citiwalk - just thought Disney might be a little more all inclusive. Of course she tells me that I should feel free to go to those places alone....but that's not much fun. :ccat:

I would never break the law in a foreign country. My husband got stopped for speeding in New Hampshire 20 years ago and state troopers are way scarier than mounties. :mickeyjum

You may have more luck at City Walk at Universal. If I'm remembering correctly, they have some 18+ clubs.
