You Seem Taller In Your Trip Reports. A Baby at WDW - *HOLY COW! AN UPDATE!* 4/17 p26

First...best of luck in the marathon!

I really enjoy the early morning pics...especially the walk from Boardwalk to DHS. Seems like a nice way to start the day!

And it looks like y'all were having a great start to the day with DIS meets & character meets!

I cruised around Boardwalk, past the Beach Club, Yacht Club, Swan & Dolphin, finally taking the path down to Hollywood Studios and back, conveniently finishing right in front of the Boardwalk Bakery! I couldn't have planned it any better. OK, I could have planned to finish after they actually opened in the morning, but that's besides the point.

That sounds like the only thing that could have made it worthwhile, actually.

I returned to the room and showered (at Bambi's insistence) and found Ryder playing with his new Lego man. Or playing with his toes while the Lego man watched and wished he had toes. Poor guy.

Eh. Less stuff to have to clean. Cute picture, though.

IMG_2194.JPG

It's very zen. You should try it sometime.

Crane technique. If do right, no can defense.

You can't see it in the picture, but these guys had a really, really big Q-tip.

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

As were were approaching the end of the path near the bus stop at Hollywood Studios, I realized that we, as humans, may not hold the spot as the smartest species on Earth for very long. Evidence (Honey Boo-Boo) suggests that we, as a species, are getting dumber, and I found proof that other creatures are getting smarter.

I feel proud to admit I have no idea who Honey Boo-Boo is. And I think I'll keep it that way.

Our plan was to get into the park and while Brian and I did a FastPass run to Toys Story Mania, Bambi and Sheri would take the kids to get signed up for the Jedi Training Academy.

All that coordination is a lot of work, isn't it?

Despite some issues with Brian's ticket (clearly, he sneaked into the park without getting his ticket scanned)

Better be careful. That's how Disney finds food for the shark tank at Typhoon Lagoon.

I love it when a plan comes together.

The A-Team!

And wouldn't you know it - Madison was the Rebel Spy! Few things make a dad more proud than knowing his daughter is carrying information vital to bringing down a Galactic Empire.

:woohoo: Help us, Madison. You're our only hope.

I tell Seth to stick close, because if I lost him it would probably be an international incident and they'd get Canadian law enforcement involved and they'd come down with thier funny riding pants and red jackets and silly hats and probably get heat stroke in the Florida humidity in that get up and then we'd have a real mess on our hands.

They'd be super-nice about it, though.

"So, you lost my kid, eh? Well, try not to do it again next time. Here, have a beer."

And like a proper little lady, Madison rides her Speeder Bike side saddle.

And like a proper little lady, Madison....ah, forget it. I have no idea what's she's doing here.

Is this a land-speeder or a parade float? :confused3

A quick stop by Lightning McQueen and Mater (of which I appear to have no pictures :confused3)

Didn't happen.

Despite his smile, I'm sure Mike Wazowski gets really sick of people use his head as an armrest.

Wait till he sees what they use his helmet for. :scared1:

So, did you enjoy your new balloon? :confused3

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

You did an update :thumbsup2 sounds like a great day in DHS so far even if you did lose a child for a few minutes

A most excellent day at DHS.

That path to DHS is a nice run.

Nice way to divide and conquer at opening. :thumbsup2

:cool1: Hooray for DISmeets.

Great update, Barry.

I am totally NOT surprised that Madison was the Rebel Spy...no one can resist her charm.

Love Ryder laying on the bed with his Lego doll...such a cute baby (and thankfully he is NOT wearing a green shirt!).

Morning came on August 21st. And while I'm usually up with the sun, on this particular morning, I beat it.

A good way to get burned.
Didn’t your Momma ever tell you not to be touching hot stoves and the like?

I quietly grabbed my running shoes and snuck down to the Boardwalk for a pre-dawn run. (For those that don't know, I'm training for the Walt Disney World Half Marathon in January 2013.)

Really! I hadn’t heard. :lmao:

Actually I’ve enjoyed the back-n-forth for some time now.
Y’all do be funny.

So… just what are the benefits of joining one team over the other in this here nemesis challenge I’ve been hearin’ about?

It was a bit slippery, but I'm nimble like a cat after a baggie full of capnip so I managed to stay upright.

I’ve been around my share of cats. When they’re chasing after anything on a slippery surface, nimble is not necessarily the word I’d use to describe the outcome.

I cruised around Boardwalk, past the Beach Club, Yacht Club, Swan & Dolphin, finally taking the path down to Hollywood Studios and back, conveniently finishing right in front of the Boardwalk Bakery!

Win!

I couldn't have planned it any better. OK, I could have planned to finish after they actually opened in the morning, but that's besides the point.

Errrr… I mean… Fail!

He seemed very peaceful, just sitting there with his wings spread. Contemplating the meaning of life....puzzeling over the great questions posing mankind..."why are we here?"...."what else is out there?"...."how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?"...

Hummmm… well the answer to the first two questions is: “42”.
The answer to that last one there is: “Three”
(and you should have known that one)

You can't see it in the picture, but these guys had a really, really big Q-tip.

:lmao:

That may look like just a balloon to the untrained eye, but trust me, it's much more than that. Clearly, it was placed near the water's edge by an alligator. It's true! He puts the balloon - a beloved toy by children the world over - right at the edge of his habitat. He lies next to it, waiting for a sweet, delicious child to run up to it and ....well, you get the idea. No more searching for food. Just wait for it to come to you. Alligators clearly are evolving into very intelligent creatures.

And you still decided to have a picture taken with a half dozen or so of these critters just as they were all waiting to be feed?

We interrupt this Trip Report for a Cute Baby Picture.

The most efficient method available when the subject desperately needs changing.

While waiting, Brian & his Canadian Posse used their RCMP ninja skills to track me down. (Also, I texted him my location.)

Dudley-Do-Right.jpg

And wouldn't you know it - Madison was the Rebel Spy!

Being the most noticed person in the group is a good cover.
No one suspects that person to be hiding anything.

Few things make a dad more proud than knowing his daughter is carrying information vital to bringing down a Galactic Empire.

Or maybe she was carrying Henry Cabot Henhouse the III’s closely guarded formula for super sauce.

Next thing I know - Evan's gone.

He was just using the Force to shield his image from the eyes of the week-minded fool that had been tasked with looking after him.

Dudley-Do-Right.jpg

Luckily, Evan had just tucked himself up in a corner looking at Star Wars Action Figures (They're not dolls!)

“Daddy… does this storm trooper helmet make my butt look big?”

and balance was returned to the force.

That depends on just how you answered that last question.

And like a proper little lady, Madison....ah, forget it. I have no idea what's she's doing here.

Being proper of course…

Like you’d have done otherwise?

Just wanted to pop in and wish you, Bambi, Madison, Evan and Ryder a very Merry Christmas:

tiggerchristmas.jpg

Wow, that was a major screw up. Not only could you have slept longer, you could have replaced twice as many calories as you just burned. :rotfl::rotfl2:
Maybe you're not getting the point of "exercise?" :lmao:

One of these days I should really watch Honey Boo-Boo, just so I can understand the pop culture references.
I never have. And from what I hear - don't. I watched a 3 minute clip on cnn.com about the show one day. I think 40 or 50 brain cells died during that time.
Or I could just stick a metal trash can over my head and give Landon some drumsticks.
I'll bet Rob would volunteer to teach him a few beats.

So, did you enjoy your new balloon? :confused3
Yes. And my new alligator skin boots. :thumbsup2

So, did that mean that everyone had a Toy Story Fast pass except for Brian? If so, Scott will be very proud of you.
Unfortunately, they CM working the FP machines felt bad for him (I think it was the accent) and printed one out for him anyway.

1... carry the 2... ah #$*% it, go on ahead!
Wait, I'm supposed to match the number of people to the number of seats? Ohhh...that makes way more sense than the way I was doing it.

Well, she never has been verey good at hiding from a camera. :rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:
And in this case, they use a hidden camera. The Force is very strong in her.

Oh, there you are Perry.
I know what I'm going to do today! (Ignore work and try to do another TR entry!)

He looks like he'd also make a really good table for your snacks during a parade too. And probably a little more sanitary than a trash can.
:lmao: He's a little too rounded on top to hold much, though.

Actually.... due to the mix up, I ended up getting 2 additional TSM fastpasses... which I magically turned into 4... :rolleyes1

Take that SCOTT! :rotfl2:
COTU strikes again.

Barry, I got 6 pics of the Mater and McQueen meetup...

Send me an e-mail address... (I don't have a dropbox account)

In the mean time, here's one of them

Disney2012676640x480.jpg

Thanks Brian! I'll send you my email today. :thumbsup2

First...best of luck in the marathon!
Thanks! It's just over 2 weeks away. :scared1:
I really enjoy the early morning pics...especially the walk from Boardwalk to DHS. Seems like a nice way to start the day!
That's one of my favorite times to be at WDW - before the hustle and bustle of the crowds starts up for the day.
And it looks like y'all were having a great start to the day with DIS meets & character meets!
Yes, yes we did. :thumbsup2

Maybe you're not getting the point of "exercise?" :lmao:
Well, some exercises are done to "bulk up" :confused3 :lmao:

I never have. And from what I hear - don't. I watched a 3 minute clip on cnn.com about the show one day. I think 40 or 50 brain cells died during that time.
And that tells you a lot right there. It is sad when you are killing brain cells watching the so-called "news."

Unfortunately, they CM working the FP machines felt bad for him (I think it was the accent) and printed one out for him anyway.
Canadians are just too ridiculously polite.

I know what I'm going to do today! (Ignore work and try to do another TR entry!)
It's about time!!!

I think I might do the same thing myself.

That sounds like the only thing that could have made it worthwhile, actually.
Or seeing a gator laying out his balloon trap.

Eh. Less stuff to have to clean. Cute picture, though.
Mmm...toe jam.

Crane technique. If do right, no can defense.
I tried to sweep the leg, but then realized that doesn't have much effect when he can fly.

I feel proud to admit I have no idea who Honey Boo-Boo is. And I think I'll keep it that way.
Consider yourself lucky.

All that coordination is a lot of work, isn't it?
I'm still working on my debriefing papers.

Better be careful. That's how Disney finds food for the shark tank at Typhoon Lagoon.
Canadian Bacon?

The A-Team!
Good job. Give yourself a bonus point when you start your next TR.

:woohoo: Help us, Madison. You're our only hope.
Rumor has it the rebels tried using a middle age pasty white guy as a spy, but he must not have done it right or something. :confused3

They'd be super-nice about it, though.

"So, you lost my kid, eh? Well, try not to do it again next time. Here, have a beer."
:lmao::rotfl:
I'm sure he'll turn up eventually. We'll just put out a plate of pountine and grab him when wanders back around.

Is this a land-speeder or a parade float? :confused3
Just because you're racing for your life through the forests of Endor, doesn't mean you can't look good.

Didn't happen.
Drat.

Wait till he sees what they use his helmet for. :scared1:
Chips and dip?:confused3

You did an update :thumbsup2 sounds like a great day in DHS so far even if you did lose a child for a few minutes
Mine are pretty well trained. I just whistle and they come running. I scratch them behind the ear and tell them what good little kids they are.

A most excellent day at DHS.
Most of them are. :thumbsup2
That path to DHS is a nice run.
Very peaceful. I like it.

:cool1: Hooray for DISmeets.
DISers are fun. Everybody else is just in the way.

:yay::cheer2::yay::yay::yay:Team Tim!!!
:headache:

Great update, Barry.

I am totally NOT surprised that Madison was the Rebel Spy...no one can resist her charm.
She does have a knack for getting people on her side, doesn't she?
Love Ryder laying on the bed with his Lego doll...such a cute baby (and thankfully he is NOT wearing a green shirt!).
Thanks. Want to guess what I dressed him in this morning? ;)

A good way to get burned.
Didn’t your Momma ever tell you not to be touching hot stoves and the like?
Reminds me of an old joke where an astronaut goes back to his small home town to visit after returning from space. He stops down at the old watering hole and encounters a few rather inebriated armchair rocket scientists. They begin boasting about how anybody can land on the moon and how they have a plan to take a rocket to the sun. The astronaut asks how they plan to deal with the extreme heat generated by the sun. "That's easy," they say. "We're going at night!"

Really! I hadn’t heard. :lmao:

Actually I’ve enjoyed the back-n-forth for some time now.
Y’all do be funny.

So… just what are the benefits of joining one team over the other in this here nemesis challenge I’ve been hearin’ about?
There are many benefits to joining Team Barry. But they all boil down to one basic pressies: I'm pretty much awesome. And humble.

I’ve been around my share of cats. When they’re chasing after anything on a slippery surface, nimble is not necessarily the word I’d use to describe the outcome.
Yes, but they have 4 feet, I only have 2. Which makes me twice as nimble. FUZZY MATH FOR THE WIN!

YES!

Errrr… I mean… Fail!
:headache::headache:

Hummmm… well the answer to the first two questions is: “42”.
The answer to that last one there is: “Three”
(and you should have known that one)
I still think that owl cheated.

And you still decided to have a picture taken with a half dozen or so of these critters just as they were all waiting to be feed?
Duh. We were protected by the Line of Death.

The most efficient method available when the subject desperately needs changing.
And sometimes the subject of that picture needs changing. But sometimes you open it up and realize he just farted.

Being the most noticed person in the group is a good cover.
No one suspects that person to be hiding anything.
Unfortunately, I wasn't in the ride when she was revealed to be the spy. But I could imagine her waving her arms and yelling "It's me! It's me!"

Or maybe she was carrying Henry Cabot Henhouse the III’s closely guarded formula for super sauce.
I'm not quite familiar with Henry's sauce, but Miller Park has a Secret Stadium Sauce that you put on your bratwurst that's pretty good.

He was just using the Force to shield his image from the eyes of the week-minded fool that had been tasked with looking after him.
He has turned to the Dark Side.

“Daddy… does this storm trooper helmet make my butt look big?”
No. You look fine. Just like the last 4 outfits. Can we go now?

Being proper of course…

Like you’d have done otherwise?
Certainly not.

After the Monsters, Inc meet and greet, Ron and his family went their own way while we marched past the Splash Fountain and the giant misting Coke bottles to use our Toy Story Mania FastPasses.

Side note - I was all set to make fun of Hollywood Studios for having the Splash Fountain - a replica of a movie prop from 1984. I did just a bit of research and found that the sequel to Splash - "Splash Too" was the first movie filmed entirely at what was then known as Disney-MGM Studios. So I thought that was kind of neat and almost earned itself a reprieve from my mockery. But then I learned that Splash Too not only didn't star Tom Hanks or Darryl Hannah (or the majority of the original cast for that matter), but it was a direct-to-TV sequel that shown in 2 parts on different nights. Sorry, Hollywood Studios. You statue, while good intentioned, is lame.

But back to more important topics - us. We entered the FastPass line and started breezing by everyone standing in the normal queue. Brian stopped to talk to his neighbor that was in stand by. More proof that everyone in Canada really does know everyone else. When we got to the spot where FP merges with the standby line, we were asked how many were in our party. We all stopped and looked around, counting silently in our heads until someone shouted "9, but one is a baby"

"Perfect" was the reply from the Cast Member/Gate Keeper, and were were ushered up the handicapped entrance, bypassing the stairs and bridge. They were just pulling up a set of ride vehicles to unload someone with special needs and needed to fill those cars. We slipped on our cool 3D shades and put on our game faces.

Evan and Seth
IMG_2234.JPG

Madison and Bayley (Game face, girls. Game Face. This isn't a tea party, it's Toy Story Midway Mania.)
IMG_2235.JPG

Brian and Sheri (Seriously, are Evan and Seth the only ones that know how to do a good game face?)

IMG_2236.JPG

Bambi and Ryder. (See?! Ryder gets it! Game Face!)
IMG_2240.JPG

Our final score:
IMG_2238.JPG

And I've got to stop and compliment Bambi right here. 109,000 while holding a baby. THAT'S how you play TSMM! (And as our Canadian friends would probably point out: The beaver is a truly proud and noble animal.)

And yes, I helped hold Ryder steady when the car was moving. Those things can really whip around corners!

And how did young Ryder like his first time on Toy Story Midway Mania?

IMG_2241.JPG

Looks like he loved it!

We had a bit of time before we had to be at the Jedi Training Academy, so we headed over to Starring Rolls for a little late morning snack. Bambi had come across a picture of one of their menu items - a Red Velvet Cheesecake Cupcake - and decided this was a must do on this trip. Here's a tip for you guys out there - when your wife makes a "must do" list, do it. This thing was amazing.

IMG_2243.JPG

And although the cup cake brought stability to our stomachs, I was still sensing much instability in the force. We wasted no time in rushing over to the JTA meeting area in the Sounds Dangerous building...so we could wait around for 20 minutes. Disney has you show up early to make sure every has time to use the little Jedi's room before training.

We made the short walk over to the JTA stage, and while the kids got suited up in their robes, we met up with another DisDad - Nick (DisneyDaddy-O). Nick, like Brian is Canadian. As I stood there listening to them talk about where they live and what they do, I came to a realization... I can understand and speak fluent Canadian! It came as quite a shock. I never studied it or anything, yet here I was standing amung two Canucks and understanding perfectly everything they said.

IMG_2244.JPG

Nick runs a restaurant called Mad Millie's in Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada. If you're ever around, stop in and check it out. Tell them Barry sent you. It won't get you any special privileges, but it will sound cool.

IMG_2246.JPG

Meanwhile, the kids got their robes and took their assigned positions in the training area (which looks suspiciously like "stage").

IMG_2255.JPG

Being young padawans, they were given training light sabers until which time as they could control the Force enough to handle a real one. This was a good idea on Disney's part, because I can only imagine the devastation Evan would cause with an uncontrolled light saber. Honestly, I was a bit worried about the devastation he might cause with just a training light saber.

IMG_2259.JPG

Photo0653FourBySix.jpg

Using the Force requires a lot of concentration, doesn't it Evan?

Photo0662FourBySix.jpg

Part way though their training, Darth Vader made an appearance, trying to sway the students to the Dark Side.

IMG_2266.JPG

IMG_2270.JPG

One by one, the padawans activated their training light sabers and took Vader on, one on one. Mano a mano. Dude to Dude.

IMG_2281.JPG

Some might say that Vader has a height advantage, but in reality, Evan has a depth advantage. And he utilized it by attacking Vader's ankles.

IMG_2286.JPG

Getting Vader off guard, he then tried levitating for a head shot, but only got half of his feet off the ground.

IMG_2291.JPG

Thoroughly impressed with his skills, and convinced that he would never turn to the Dark Side, Vader switched his focus to Madison. Here we see him talking to Madison, telling here to come to the Dark Side, where together they would rule the galaxy. Luckily, she was disinclined to acquiesce to his request. (Means "no."). ((And for anyone keeping track at home, yes, I just combined Star Wars and Pirates of the Caribbean. You're welcome.))

IMG_2292.JPG

It's a good thing he forgot to mention that the Dark Side has cookies. She probably would have joined.

IMG_2293.JPG

Look at That! She buckled his knee with her strike. Nothing makes a daddy prouder!
IMG_2296.JPG

IMG_2304.JPG

After trying, and failing, to recruit or destroy each student, Vader realized that he was defeated. He gathered up his Storm Troopers and stomped off in a little galactic hissy fit.

IMG_2321.JPG

After the kids all got their JTA diplomas, we said good bye to our new Canadian friends. We had a lunch ADR and Brian and his family were headed off...somewhere else. Go read his on going Trip Report to find out where. Don't worry, he's writing it in English so all of us can follow along.

Brian - it was a blast hanging out with you guys while down in Disney World. One of these years we'll road trip into Canada (just as soon as I straighten out a few things with the Department of Homeland Security :rolleyes1). We'll hit up Nick for some free Fish & Chips! And if you're ever in Wisconsin, deep fried cheese is on me.

Up Next: Lunch, and the patented Florida Summer Afternoon Downpour®.

Side note - I was all set to make fun of Hollywood Studios for having the Splash Fountain - a replica of a movie prop from 1984. That was an awful long, drawn out way of saying your gut instinct was correct. :rotfl2::lmao:

More proof that everyone in Canada really does know everyone else.
Not necessarily, but it does confirm that they're polite to a fault. Unless you work at a Ford dealership in Ohio.

"Perfect" was the reply from the Cast Member/Gate Keeper, and were were ushered up the handicapped entrance, bypassing the stairs and bridge.
That's what happens when you have the Controller of the Universe with you.

And I've got to stop and compliment Bambi right here. 109,000 while holding a baby. THAT'S how you play TSMM!
::yes::

(And as our Canadian friends would probably point out: The beaver is a truly proud and noble animal.)
:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

Here's a tip for you guys out there - when your wife makes a "must do" list, do it. This thing was amazing.
Ok. But only if it involves a dessert. I can think of plenty of things that she might think are a must do that I'll be happy to pass on.

I can understand and speak fluent Canadian!
That's because your from Wisconsin. That's like South Canada.

Honestly, I was a bit worried about the devastation he might cause with just a training light saber.
Well, he is your son.

Luckily, she was disinclined to acquiesce to his request. (Means "no."). ((And for anyone keeping track at home, yes, I just combined Star Wars and Pirates of the Caribbean. You're welcome.))
Nice job! :thumbsup2 That should at least make up for one bad pun.

It's a good thing he forgot to mention that the Dark Side has cookies. She probably would have joined.
For a good chocolate chip cookie, I probably would too.

Go read his on going Trip Report to find out where. Don't worry, he's writing it in English so all of us can follow along.
Yeah, but you update more frequently than he does, and that ain't saying much.

But back to more important topics - us. We entered the FastPass line and started breezing by everyone standing in the normal queue. Brian stopped to talk to his neighbor that was in stand by. Score!

They were just pulling up a set of ride vehicles to unload someone with special needs and needed to fill those cars. We slipped on our cool 3D shades and put on our game faces.

Double Score!

Evan and Seth
IMG_2234.JPG

Great game day faces (or Evan is passing gas because of that darn shirt he is wearing!)

Madison and Bayley (Game face, girls. Game Face. This isn't a tea party, it's Toy Story Midway Mania.)
IMG_2235.JPG

It's always a tea party for the girls; and I don't think Madison has a mean face of any kind.

Bambi and Ryder. (See?! Ryder gets it! Game Face!)
IMG_2240.JPG

I think Ryder probably just had gas. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

And I've got to stop and compliment Bambi right here. 109,000 while holding a baby. THAT'S how you play TSMM! (And as our Canadian friends would probably point out: The beaver is a truly proud and noble animal.)

Way to go Bambi!

And how did young Ryder like his first time on Toy Story Midway Mania?

IMG_2241.JPG

He's growing too fast...stop him right now!

The question is: will the next update get done BEFORE or AFTER your next trip to Disney???? :lmao::lmao::lmao: Love you, Barry.

Hi Barry and Bambi!

I'm Connie. I have lurked thru and thoroughly enjoyed all of your trip reports. I don't typically post just because I spend way too much time here if I do. BUT, I did finally want to drop in and say "hello". :wave2: Though, I must admit, my motivation is largely selfish. I have a brand new ticker to show off and you're the first of my subscribed threads to update since I added it. Technically, I haven't booked anything yet, but the plan is in motion.

Thanks for sharing all your stories. I really do enjoy them and appreciate you taking the time. Can't wait to read more! :goodvibes

Ryder's game face is almost as if he's saying what are they taking me on now! :confused3:goodvibes
