Been reading a bit about the booking "problems" people have when it comes to using codes & room availability. It's been suggested to book a longer night stay to be able to get the code or whatever & then cancel the night or nights that you don't need later. Does this really work? Feel like I'd be breaking some rule or cheating somehow. Just rebooked the POLY for the second time today. Code was available for Sept 25-Oct 1 not the Sept 25-Sept 30 that I wanted. So I booked the 6 nights instead of 5. So when I call to cancel that one night, I won't get any grief & my code will still be in place???? Just a little confused & looking for those out there with a similar situation. Can't they just make things a little easier so all of us crazy changes will stop calling 50 times & changing things?:confused3

I guess I'm confused by that - if the code was good through October 1, why couldn't you book your trip through the 30th in the first place?

I don't think I ever heard anyone report that before - that you had to have a specific set of dates to use a code. And it shouldn't be an availability issue if there was availability to use the code from the 25th - 1st?

I never get any codes that work for my trips, so maybe I just never paid attention before? :confused3

We had to do this for free dining. Had 9/15-9/20 at AKL. Wanted to add 9/14, but no avail. when talking with the reservation line after closing(we were on the phone checking until 10:15pm)for the extra date. Went online 10 minutes later- got 9/14-9/17 during free dining and booked that. Called the next morning and had them combine the 2 ressies to one booking 9/15-9/20 and roll-over the 2nd deposit I made online to the balance. They were fine with it and said that sometimes the system doesn weird things like that, (though it is possible someone caneclled just then...) as they thought that was silly also!

As long as you modify your reservation before the deadline (45 days for packages and 6 days for room only) you shouldn't have any problems. Since you're dropping a night at the end it really shouldn't make any difference to the code. I can't think of anything that could go wrong. Just make sure they send you a new confirmation email... then you can check it and make sure the rate is still the same. Good luck! :)

i did this last month to "extend" my free dining. trip was originally sept 20-28...we decided we wanted to check in on the 19, but there was no availability to add that one night. kept checking online, was finally able to find availabilty when i used 19th-oct 2...my ta took care of it for me, but basically she booked those new dates, cancelled the old, then went back and cancelled the nights we didnt need. she said she had never heard of doing that, but it worked like a charm :)

Actually someone at CRO told me to do this once. You're not doing anything wrong - have a good time!

Not the exact same situation, but...

A few years back we booked 6 nights at POFQ. After we arranged our flights, we decided on one less night. I called back to cancel the extra night (several months prior to the trip) and was told "let me see if I have a 5 night stay available". They did, but I asked why I might not have been able to drop the last night and was told that they have rooms blocked out for stays of varying lengths.

Oh really? That's weird. I've called back twice to add extra nights onto our upcoming Sept stay and have had no problems adding nights on. I wonder why they do it this way?
