OK, DH recently received orders to Anchorage, Alaska - so off we go for 3 years. This will involve a cross country road trip from CT-WA, then a few days on a ferry. We plan to stop in Yellowstone National Park for a few days along the way so here is my problem . . .

Where is the Yellowstone discussion board??
Who is going to tell me what I should/should not bring?? Extension cords? Shoe holders?
Who is going to tell me where the best rooms are?
Which excursions should I plan??
Where is the Yellowstone Passporter??
Where are the discount codes??

Keep us posted on how you are doing. Maybe you can be the one to scope thing out in Alaska for any of us DISers, who maybe in the future will be on a Disney Cruise to Alaska.

I do know what you mean though. My DH and I were going to take a trip to DC and I was googling all over the place trying to find indepth info like we have here on the DIS.

Hmmm-where in Alaska will you be stationed-I know some people who thought it was a great duty station.

If you are going to be camping at Yellowstone I suggest the making resservations at the Canyon campground (it's centrally located). If you won't be camping, there are many lodges available (have never stayed in one there).

The areas I would recommend seeing (in order)
Mammoth
Old Faithful
Canyon (the "Yellowstone Grand Canyon")
Norris
West Thumb

Yellowstone National Park
Lodging and Other Info @ Yellowstone

It's a very unique and beatiful area. Enjoy your stay.

Hey, thanks for all of your suggestions!
I just got a Frommer's guide, now I just need to figure out when we will be there to make ressies. We are big campers, but we need to lodge-it for this trip, I just don't see the sense of lugging camping gear across the country. DSs are 3 & 5 so we don't travel light! Plus there is the whole we-will-be-homeless-for-months-once-we-get-there factor.
