You receive at least 2 books a day in your rural mail box - and the mailman shows up at your door on a Saturday morning with a box that won't fit inside the mail box - starts laughing - and says, "Here you go.. I wouldn't want you to run out of books!!" :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Okay - someone needs to take my computer away from me..:lmao:

You are so lucky to have mail delivered. I live so rurally that I have to go to the post office to pick up! And books don't fit in my box so we have to wait an extra day. Post office is only open until noon so you go in on day 1 after noon time and get a notice in your box. Then you have to go back the next day to pick up your package!

Are you ordering from Amazon? I used to buy quite a few books on Ebay and I loved people who shipped UPS because they will come to my house!

There was a time up here when I didn't have rural delivery or a rural mail box and it was brutal.. Like you, I had to travel to the post office and it was a pain in the neck..

I've been ordering from Amazon - as well as half.com (as much as I despise using anything that is associated with eBay:headache:).. I have found the books to be cheaper (used) on half.com than Amazon - and by trying to order as many books as possible from the same seller, there is a significant savings on shipping..

I now have 18 books to read and at the rate that I have been reading this summer, I'll probably have them all read in 10 days or so.. I'm trying out a couple of new Amish fiction writers and if I like them as much as I do Beverly Lewis, I'll be back online ordering more..:eek:

Also got some more Karen Kingsbury books - and one by Nikki Arana that sounds very interesting..

Like I said - someone needs to take my computer away from me.. LOL..:rotfl:

Honey, you need to go to Paperbackswap.com Much cheaper way to feed your habit (my habit also). That way when one book arrives another one goes out!

I tried that but I actually like owning books! I have a room full of shelves. The paperbacks are mostly in storage boxes. It is kind of like an addiction.

I haven't tried half.com but DD has purchased some stuff there. We are lucky enough to have a Borders Express about 15 miles away - they cater mostly to the tourists in the summer so sometimes they don't have what I am looking for in either fiction or non-fiction. But they will special order anything. Unfortunately for Borders, Amazon is cheaper! If I have to wait for something to be delivered, I'll do Amazon.

If I could get to where I only have 18 books in my "to be read" pile my DH would be happy! I have a special bookshelf for my "to be reads".

I actually get kind of giddy when the books arrive. I mean, I know what my books are that I ordered and when they will probably arrive but its seeing those package books that remind me slightly of getting presents.

Have you thought of joining Mensa? That way you may not need so many books.

You can never have too many books. My old favorites are like old friends. And I get twitchy and nervous if I don't have a big pile of "to be read" books!

I do periodically clean house, especially paperbacks. I donate to my library - they can either use them for the next book sale or some are current enough that they put them into circulation.

::yes::
:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

You do NOT have to swap books back out. You can keep them. My public library is huge and they have a big budget so I get the latest best sellers through them to read and return. Every book I have gotten from Paperbackswap.com has been books I want to keep.

If you just want to buy books there, you can buy credits from people in their Book Bazaar forum or buy them directly from Paperbackswap.com. A single credit, that is good for one book is about $3. That is sooo much cheaper than buying on ebay or half.com or the Amazon resellers, where you still have to pay shipping on top of the price of a book. You can use PayPal to buy credits. :cool1:

No need to worry that the site would run out of books if you only bought them and didn't swap any of your own. People get an amazing amount of books from a number of places to swap. It is expected that not all of them would be returning back into the system. That's why people have extra credits to sell.

I wish I could do that...it grosses me out. Library books ick me out as well.

Yesterday when the electricity was out I did a count of books I have to read...57!
I do send them to friends & donate them so that makes me feel better.

I agree with the above poster~I like having my own books and the library just grosses me out. I guess I'm a bit of a "book priss"

You need a kindle

Actually...

C.Ann, are you close enough to the Albany Public Library to join and download eBooks over their internet web site?

Also, I don't know where you are from when not at the lake, but if you have your library card with you, you can download books for your local library system, even at the lake, if your library has ebooks.

You read library eBooks with Adobe Reader as they are in PFD file format. You can change the font size to very large by changing the size of the "book" on screen. This would solve your needing to read large, bold print problem.

Don't like them at all.
I need to hold a book not a piece of plastic.

I thought I was the only one. I love to read and have a very large collection of books, but I just can't imagine getting a kindle. I want an actual book in my hands when I read.

Your buying books and I'm selling them on Amazon! I sold 13 books today alone. These are all the books my son left behind from College before he went to Japan for graduate school. I just listed them today only 24 to go. They sure sell fast on Amazon. Have you tried getting them used? My son likes mostly new books that he is going to keep otherwise he buys used.
I've started 4 books this year and haven't finished one yet. The first 3 I couldn't get into, and the last one I have a chapter left to read but it's been sitting there for months because I know he's going to die at the end and I don't want to cry. All my spare time is spent practicing Japanese Language with my husband. We are trying to learn before we go back to visit my son next year. We couldn't understand a word when we went in June, no one spoke English at all where he lives.

Have Fun Reading!

I tried my cousins on a cruise earlier this month & gave up after a short amount of time. She knocked on my cabin door about 3 days in when her charger died & the shops onboard didn't have anything she liked. We named my cabin the library:)

I wasn't sure I would like it. But with the cover I have I feel like I am holding a book. Just click instead of turn. Now I don't think I can ever go back!
