You Know What Ride I Think Needs a Facelift?

Star Tours, IMO, definitely needs an upgrade.

When disneyLOVE, wazowskiLOVER, shyboy, and I went in October, we realized that after we got off the ride, we enjoyed waiting in line more than the actual ride itself!! There's so many things to see in the line while waiting (not to mention that all those props in there are from the ACTUAL movies :goodvibes ), and then you sit down, strap up, and it's kind of... Bland :/.

I hate to say it, because I love Star Wars, and the ride is definitely a classic, but compared to the technology in some of the newer rides (TSMM, for example), there isn't much excitement. Not anymore, at least.

... The least they can do is change that lady's hairstyle in the video that does the briefing before the boarding. We're in the 21st century and I have YET to see anyone with a hairball the size of hers on the side of their head ;)

What do you guys think? Do you think Star Tours needs any improvements to keep things exciting, or is it fine just the way it is in all its nostalgic glory? Any comments/suggestions/concerns?

I've heard rumors that is being discussed with George Lucas. Who knows about a time frame or it if will really ever happen? :confused3
After riding all these years, in August I just finally saw the microscope from Adventures in Inner Space -- I miss that ride!

I am going to agree with you on this. I love this ride but its time for a major face lift. With all the money star wars makes and its popularity I am surprised that they haven’t done something new for this ride.:confused3

Adventures from Inner Space?

I've never heard of that one before... Then again, I'm way behind in my DL history

What was that ride about?

My sentiments exactly blackssrider! I would have thought that by the time Episode I was released some major goings-on would have happened at Star Tours, but it's all pretty much Episodes IV-VI oriented. Maybe there could be a new storyline, like being in the middle of the Clone Wars or something? That would be kind of neat, right?

Adventures Through Inner Space is the ride that used to be where Star Tours is now. It was sponsored by Monsanto and had a catchy tune singing about "miracles from molecules."

Here is a link to the yesterland site about it. http://www.yesterland.com/innersp.html

The microscope is the one that used to be in the queue where the starship is now by C3PO. It is shown for a very brief time in the movie before you leave the space station.
Inner Space emptied out in The Character Shop which is what Star Traders was called many years ago. (It holds a place near and dear to my heart as I was a CM there 30 years ago :scared1:)

I agree the ride is very outdated. I like it! But it's still outdated.

When (if?) they make an updated version, they should add Storm Troopers. Man, I :lovestruc Storm Troopers!

I do too Courtney!! LOL I like to watch the Jedi training for the Storm Troopers.....LMAO!!!!

I think ST could definitely use an upgrade, and smooth it out some, it's so bouncy that I can get migraines from it. :( I do like it but we don't ride anymore, too bumpy and boring. The kids love it and ride it every trip tho. :)

I agree Star Tours needs an update. The line is cute and I think that part is fine. Even the pre-flight movie is fine. I think her hair represents the Star Wars world. I LOVE Star Wars, but the movie looks scratchy and I don't really feel like I'm really going anywhere anymore like I used to. Not sure if it because it looks like a film or because I know how it goes so well. I'd love to see a new movie in there. :thumbsup2

Innerspace was my favorite ride when I was little. I always wanted to go on the "Microscope Ride". :)

i haven't been able to go on it yet. i do like older star wars stuff, though. all this new stuff (the clone wars, and the clone wars tv show) make me feel old. :)

i will definitely go on it in april, though. ds is a star wars fanatic.

OMG YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ME TOO!! I don't know! Something about those plastic white suits!!? :confused3 :rotfl:

I can see us now....sitting in Jedi training while the guys are off riding the Matterhorn! LMAO!!!!! :lmao: The more I learn about you the more I think I must meet you!!

In my opinion, it would be nice to be able to choose from a number of different excursions. That way, it would be a matter of going when x is going to be shown, instead of y. Or, one can go to see all of them, over the course of the day. Or x can be shown for several weeks, or months, Then the net show.

You know, that sounds like I really neat idea Gisele.

Like different planets during certain times of the day, of maybe you only go to the Hoth system in all in freezing frigidness during Winter.

Nice idea!

Gisele I agree with you. The choice of tour would be the BEST.

I really do NOT want to be in a podrace, even though I've started to grow fond of Phantom Menace (my kid is brainwashing me by watching it over and over and over and.....I'm cracking from the pressure,LOL).

I also don't want to be on those speeder bike things on Endor (right? Ewok-world?) dodging trees and such.

But Hoth would be cool...

Basically I think they should take the "tour" posters in the exit to heart and make those tours!!!!!!!

Or rather, make those attempts at tours, LOL...that crazy robot pilot.....

Thank you, TheAxiom and Bumbershoot. :) I wonder if Disney people read these boards. :) I am rather surprised that Disney has not created different trips by now. I would definitely love to ride different tours.

Honey I Shrunk The Audience -- is that show still around? Lol..

What's wrong w/ the hairstyle? It's totally galactic! :thumbsup2 Plus, lots of models, especially the ones in America's Next Top Model, have very outlandish hairstyles for their photoshoots.

Although I do like Star Tours, I hardly ever go on it bc no one wants to go on it w/ me. I'd have to say that it is very bumpy and you can hear the vehicle shutter all the time. I'm just always sad that I never end up @ Endor. I need to see my Ewoks! :ewok:
