They have never charged us a reticketing fee..as soon as three weeks ago..Claudia, is this something new?

Possibly something old???? 2 years ago, when my DH cancelled his flight to Phoenix, they did charge him to re-ticket. Seems like that has changed for the better...thanks for letting me know!!

So far, in he past several years, since SW came to our area we haven't been charged (we change our minds due to AP and postcard codes LOL!)..however, if your DH's price was higher, for the period he could go, that would account for a higher cost.

I love SW..the only airline I know that charges you nothing to cancel (except the new price to rebook, of course).

MY BASEMENT IS A MESS...After deciding to try and sell on e-bay, I've been scouring my attics, garage and basement. I gathered a bunch of things to sell and started to put them all on this big table in one part of the basement. Boy is it a disaster. How in the world do all you big sellers keep all your things neat in one place. I have boxes and supplies, and EVERYTHING that I'm either listing, waiting to list, waiting to ship and things I still have to go through, wash, iron and fold. My dh just looks at it, shakes his head, makes a nasty face and then walks away. I'm usually a very neat person and this mess is killing me. I'm at it all day, trying to make it look presentable. But nothing I do seems to make it look neat. HOW DO YOU ALL DO IT.... And to top it off my basement is very big which gives me more room to mess up.

I have a closet in our computer room that I stuff it all into :o But actually I got some of those big rubbermaid tubs (on sale at Target of course!) and have ones for: stuff sold/waiting to ship, stuff running this week, stuff that needs to be listed, etc. And I stuff those into the closet. Before that dh called in the Jenga closet. It took me a while to get semi-organized and what works for one, may not work for you as it depends on the type of stuff you're selling.

HTH a bit!

Yay!! I just sold my first 2 items on Ebay!! One was a set of 4 exercise DVD's and the other was a set of 4 exercise VHS tapes. The DVD's went for over $50, which amazes me as thats more than I paid for them brand new about a year ago!! Go figure! The person who bid on the VHS tapes bid within the last 2 mins...lol. Well, I am definitely a happy camper with my first Ebay selling experience! Thanks to all of you for all your info, definitely worth reading through all these pages!

I thought only my house was a mess. I filled up my husband's office and then my parents decided to bring over a "few" things to list. Well, there went my basement. I have piles of things read to ship, ready to list and piles not ready to list. I have to get going on selling because I'm running out of room! How does everyone keep so organized? It's taking me forever to write descriptions, clean items, photograph items, box items, address them and run to the post office.

I've finally started getting bids on my items by starting them at extremely low prices. I know it's risky, but I'm having much more success this way. I was just wondering if anyone has ever had to sell an item at a price so low that they regretted it?

Finally, one of my items has been bid way up to a great price, but by a new user who just registered with ebay today. Do I need to worry about that?

Thank you to everyone for all of your friendly advice and comments!

Congratulations, shay425 - good for you! It sure does feel great to succeed, doesn't it!?!?

CarolJ, I definitely have - several Limited Edition Disney pins that I started at .99, & got no bids until the last minute. Previously the strategy had worked and really got the bidding going, but the second time my timing was just wrong. I felt bad for a bit, but I got good feedback out of it, and in the overall scheme of things, I am still WAY ahead. I did learn from that not to list anything for a price lower than what I could live with selling at. I do try to avoid using a reserve, but would certainly do it in certain circumstances.

Think positive and don't worry about it until you have good reason to. We all started with 0 and the few people I've had issues with were in the 20s, 30s or higher... the 2 or 3 first timers I've sold to were just great.

I am having issues with several slow to payer's (or non-payers at this point). I did NPB through paypal and now have to wait the 10 days. I have two or three people who are now basically blamming me for their slowness. Saying If you accepted XYZ then I would have paid. Has anyone else had buyers who pretty much blame you for them not paying or paying slowly? It if very frustrating. I mean I list what I do or do not accept in my payment terms but apparently buyers do not read.

Well - I went ahead and listed last week (even with Labor Day in the making) - and I can't say I'm sorry that I did..

I used the "Buy-it-now" on a number of things while it was free (a feature I very seldom use) and lo and behold, several people bought things! I was very surprised and may consider using it a bit more in the future..

I staggered my regular auctions to end tomorrow, Wed. and Thursday and I've been getting some bids right along - even throughout the holiday weekend! I can't believe what some of the things are bidding up to - considering they're NOTHING special at all - but I've made up my mind NOT to try to figure out WHAT people will buy - or WHY..

Every time I have something I'm "sure" people will buy, they don't.. Every time I have something I think I should throw away, that's what they buy!!

So - from now on everything gets listed at least once!! I'm not even going to THINK before I "list" anymore, because it just makes no sense to me whatsoever..

Anyhow - overall I'm quite pleased with how things are going - considering the holiday weekend and all - and now I'm anxious to see how things will go when everyones life returns to "normal": kids back in school; vacations over; etc..

-----------------------------

On another note, I'm still at the lake.. Was raining too hard to leave (I'm having problems with "possessed" windshield wipers) so hopefully I can get out of here tomorrow morning and swing by the hospital to see my DD on my way home..

For now I'm going to keep the travel plans that we have - BUT - plan an alternate trip just in case.. When I get home I'll check a 2004 calendar to see what holidays I would have to work around (to avoid crowds) in Jan., Feb., or early March..

Thanks for all the good wishes for my DD.. I'll keep you posted!

Does anyone know how to add a color background to your auction (descriptions)? I copied an html doc but the background is showing white in tbe preview (I am not ready to list so I am only testing right now). Anyone with any help/suggestions, please do so...

OK guys- time to start a new thread with the best tips at the top! I would offer but on dial-up the next thread would be closed before I got thru this one again!

Seriously - any place for free templates etc that can jazz up auctions?

Some of the sellers I have spoken with over the last couple of years have told me that they have trouble getting bids or getting paid if they do not have terms where they accept credit cards through a service...whether it be paypal, c2it, etc..... People do find it a big hassle to get down to the bank/post office to send out a MO....or to transfer money from their bank account to their paypal account since they have to wait a few days for that transaction to complete. For many people the most conveinient way to pay is by credit card.
Orginally I had a personal paypal account, but at that time paypal would limit you to only a certain amount of transactions per month (don't know if they still do). I found that when I changed to a business account and started to accept credit cards everthing went a whole lot smoother as far as payments. On most of my listings I am paid within 24 hours for the auction....but not necessarily by credit card....( I apologize for not knowing....but I am assuming that you do not accept credit cards and this is the payment problem your buyers are referring to?)
I realize that we are the sellers, and we have a right to run our autions anyway we would like, but sometimes to get the buyers you have to do what makes your sales go the smoothest. DisneyChrista, I can assure you that SOME people DO NOT read your terms (or anyones) for that matter!!! And if they do, they always assume you will do what they want in order to get paid....My humble advice to you would be, that if you are having this much difficulty with getting your payments, possibly it is time to reconsider what is BEST for YOU. Your time is very valuable, and I am sure that you would much rather just get paid, ship and list again......take your money and run as they say! Sometimes we must re-examine our startegies to get the best possible result for ourselves. Again, I am not telling you what to do with you auctions, just wanted to offer some advice to help you resolve what seems to be a real stuggle and problem for you. If I have said anything that has offended please accept my apologies...just trying to offer friendly info from one seller to another :)

I am not sure that this is exactly what you are looking for, but thought this might be of some use:

We are taking the word of those who know on this tread. We officially started selling things on Ebay yesterday. So, hopefully we will be opening our own Disney account soon. Thanks, for this thread or we would have never thought of this.

I remember reading once that you didn't usually use BIN, C.Ann and wondered why! I LOVE IT! Glad to see you took the plunge!
I use it mostly for the things I know are marketed to "mothers of young children" knowing that they are not likely to have the time to spend "sniping" an item! I know this because I'm one of them! When I put up an item such as this, I check the average or the most the item has sold for and put that as the BIN price. So far this has worked for me 99.9%!

On the other hand, collectibles and "male"oriented things I know can go to the moon so I leave them at regular auction.

And C.Ann, please keep us updated on your daughter. I have said a prayer for her and you.

God bless,

Robinrs

I have to agree with what claudia said in terms of payment methods.. Back when I was first getting started on eBay I had problems with buyers who were upset that I didn't accept credit card payments.. One guy got pretty nasty (he was paying by echeck to my personal Paypal account) and kept sending me email after email wanting to know WHY the check hadn't cleared yet and WHY I hadn't shipped his items.. Luckily I was finally able to convince him that it wasn't my fault that the echecks take several days to clear - other wise I'm SURE I would have gotten a negative out of that transaction.. In another instance the buyer actually ended up canceling the whole deal because I wouldn't accept credit cards... And of course on numerous occasions I had people paying me by credit card even though my auctions CLEARLY stated - in capital letters that I did NOT accept them..

Between the hassles and lost time trying to deal with these folks - and a mention by someone else that I might be missing out on sales by NOT accepting the cc's - I finally went with the Premier Business account and I'm so happy that I did.. It's made my selling so much easier and 9 times out of 10, I'm paid within a few minutes of sending out an invoice..

I'm at the point now where I have some repeat buyers (that used to pay by MO or personal check) and even THEY are switching over to paying by CC now because they know how much faster the transaction can go on BOTH ends..

I think the only answer to this problem is to accept the cc's or continue to deal with unhappy bidders and do your best to calm them down and hold them at bay until you can complete the transaction.. Sounds like you may end up with a neg sooner or later though if they're becoming that disgruntled.. :(

Wish I could give you a better solution, but from my own personal experiences I know that the only way I was able to stop the complaints was to start accepting the cc's..

Hope it all works out for you!

Congratutions!!! I am sure you will do very well, and we are here to help you if you need us!!!:p

Very clever strategy!!!

When I first started, the begining of August, I was bound and determined not to accept credit cards. Then my very first auction, a buy it now, the guy paid with a credit card....even though I stated no credit cards . So after denying the payment and going round and round.....I ended up upgrading to a premier account.

I can't tell you how cool it is to have an auction end and then usually by the next day (at the latest) see an email stating that I have just been paid. I love it!!!

By the way C.ANN I'm with you...I have finally decided to stop trying to guess what will sell. Things I'm sure will...DON't...things I think are junk...SELL!!!! AMAZING!!!!!!!

What do I do in this case?

I had a buyer win several of my auctions, (videos). When I invoice I put the option of insurance if it is available. (In Canada sometimes we aren't given the option of insurance for small packages.) Anyway, this package was bigger so insurance was available. Now here's the problem...the buyer contacted me today stating that she hasn't received the package yet. It did not have insurance on it so there is no tracking number for it. It was shipped on the 19th of August and she should have received it already. Since she didn't request insurance am I responsible for refunding her if she still claims that she hasn't received the package? After reading so many stories about people being scammed it worries me that she may just want to get her money back.

Any ideas or thoughts greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Vicky
