hi all,

we are headed to disneyland for the first time on 8/23. I got great feedback from these boards and booked the DLH thru disney. I logged on here yesterday and read about the "new discounts." I paid for my trip in full. I called disney and asked, "can i take advantage of the new discounts even though my trip is paid in full?" They said "sure!" I got almost a $500 savings; credited back to my card. Back in July, I almost booked thru AAA for a $50 savings but just felt more comfortable going w/disney....good thing I did!

Anyhow, I REALLY appreciate all the help & savings this site provide. No matter what anyone thinks of disney, you have to give kudos to their customer service. They are a PLEASURE to deal with. I told the rep "one way or another disney will get the $500" (she laughed) but this way just feels better!:)

:thumbsup2
I've done that also in the past..watched for discounts and then got it applied after the fact..now you can eat at Steakhouse 55, right? ;)

Don't you just love Disney! I love that they honor promos when they come out like that!

vettegirl,

we do just love disney! this is why i really wanted to book w/them. AAA was offering a slightly better deal but I just feel more comfortable w/disney b/c of the excellent customer service. when i called, i truly didn't believe i would get the discount but thought "what do i have to lose?" We know people who scoff at disney but just our one-time visit made "believers" out of us:)

Mary -

I'm so glad you finally got some kind of a good discount!:cool1: I'm assuming you never got the 'saved offer' PIN code after you signed up with My Disneyland and all that? (You never know - that PIN may still arrive in your e-mail or mailbox one day before your trip, out of the blue, and you may be able to switch rates again!)

Well, here's to hoping you have a wonderful trip full of joy and merriment - and lots of photos with Buzz Lightyear and the Toy Story characters!

I forgot to mention - usually, if you have an existing 'room-only' booking, Disney will let you apply any new discounts that come along to it, with no trouble at all.

It's when you get a 'package' that it gets tricky as far as applying discounts without incurring some sort of fee to switch, but sometimes they will still do it and sometimes they won't.

I've switched rates from one discount to a better discount, switched travel dates, switched from one hotel to another hotel, added and subtracted nights to my trip - all kinds of things - with no problem at all. I always have a room-only reservation, though. I've only gotten a package one time in the last several years. In the old days (pre-2000), I used to get packages all the time,

Sherry E,

Thank you sooo much. Your words were so kind:) I'm glad I got the discount too and yes, I never rec'd the pin code. But like you said, "who knows?" I just may!:)

I can't remember if its your nephew or son who is also a buzz lightyear fan:) I am sure my son will insist we get photos with his hero:) I think he will plotz when he sees the characters. We also have goofy's kitchen on our list thanks to your recommendations.

i swear sometimes i think i am more excited for the trip than the kids!:rotfl:

Sherry E,

I actually had a package so I was charged a $50 change fee. The rep was very apologetic. I told her she could charge me $100 for all I cared; I was saving close to $500 either way!:cool1:

Just so you and anyone reading this knows....packages booked through AAA or Costco are ultimately booked through WDTC. The phone lines may answer AAA or Costco Travel but are really directed to WDTC staff (unless booking through a AAA travel agent). So I don't want anyone to be discouraged to book through either thinking they couldn't get the same "Disney service".

Glad you got your savings....think of how many dole whips and churros you can buy with those savings!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

thanks for clarifying...good pt! LOL re: dole whips & churros...getting hungry already:)
