Every major company has an "Ooooops!" every once in a while.

Marvin Lee Aday, also known as "Meat Loaf,” passed away this week after a great career in both music and films.

Totally unrelated, the wonderful BBQ grill company Weber sends out recipes from time to time to their subscribers. Friday, they sent out a recipe for -- you guessed it, Meatloaf!

Weber issued an embarrassed apology today.

Somewhat related to this, when I was in college there was a poster in the dining hall entrance announcing an upcoming concert by Meat Loaf. Now this was just before he broke really big, so we all jokingly asked if that was a concert or the menu for today. The laugh was on us for not going as he soon became a really big deal!

I mean, if Meatloaf died in a fire, then yeah, sending out recipes for bbq meatloaf might be kind of inappropriate. Lol. Otherwise, I don’t think an apology was necessary.

I don't think it was necessary either. The recipe was part of a marketing campaign that was likely scheduled weeks ago. Meatloaf passed away the same day the recipe was sent out. Not much they could have done about that. If they had time to pull the message, then that would have been a good thing to do. If not, it was just an unfortunate coincidence and no ill will was intended.

I agree.

But we all know, and Weber knows, that the cancel culture is REAL. I'm sure that everyone who wants to understand what happened can easily figure it out. But there is a segment of the population who are not interested in figuring anything out -- they exist only to criticize.

So necessary or not, Weber did the right thing by issuing the apology.

Well, my boss lost it when I brought her a press release for a fundraiser and I pointed out the event benefited burn victims......and the even was a BBQ.
As for Meat Loaf, I think he would have found that grilled Meat Loaf hilarious.
Remember the show The Greatest American Hero? The lead character played by William Katt was Mr. Hinkley. It premiered on March 18, 1981. On March 30 1981 President Reagan was shot by John Hinkley. From that point on on The Greatest American Hero William Katt's character was renamed 'Mr. H.". Several episodes had to be reedited and the new name dubbed in.

This is so dumb. Couldn't this be interpreted as a nice tribute to the singer? Weber shouldn't have done anything.

But also, who is out there grilling a meatloaf?
