I need to clean out my garage so we can store things in there that will be making the move to Florida with us. I put out everything I could find with the thoughts that when the sale was over what didn't get sold would go out to the street in the FREE boxes.

It wasn't a great day for a yard sale... way too hot... so by the end of the day I had a ton of stuff that went to the street. China, books, clothes, knick knacks... In all there were 10 Boxes!

Holy cow, you should have seen the stuff fly out of there. One really nice thing happened. The city I live in has areas where people have very little. I had noticed a woman walking up and down our street with a shopping cart earlier in the day. She came back when the items were out on the street and took nearly all the books.

Part of me was sad about getting rid of so many things but a bigger part of me was thrilled to see so much space in my garage. I just kept thinking that this stuff has been in the garage for X amount of years and I haven't used it. Do I want to pack it?

As soon as we get a cool day, we've got to bring the things out of the attic and sort through that. Why do we keep all this stuff??

We did this in May. I promised myself that whatever did not sell was gone; either to the free pile, Salvation Army, dump, or local shelters. I know that I could have sold all those kids clothes and made some good money on ebay but I did not have the time or the patience! Besides I know they were well appreciated. Anyhow, we did fantastic at our yard sale and had not too much left over. Put a bunch of stuff out front for free and it was gone in a day. No dump stuff. 1 bag to Salvation Army and 3 bags and 2 boxes of books to local shelter. I am however kicking myself over the books. A month after I had the yard sale I went to do an assessment on a child at one of the city schools. I went into their library and it made me so sad. They had only 4 shelves of books for 6 grades-the room was also shared by the music room and their one computer (computer room). I told DCherubs about it and they are having a book drive over the summer to collect books to donate in September. They have collected over 100 books so far!:teeth:

Hello and congratulations on the sale! :D

As I sit here preparing to go through my stuff for my sale on Fri & Sat I can say I keep my stuff because I am a packrat. :teeth:

Now I been changing our family (slowly) for a few years. As we say NOOOOO, I can't get rid of THAT! We all repeat over and over we want our basement finished and the stuff HAS TO GO!

Already filling up my free boxes & penny boxes.. It is like please take this stuff away!

People purposely check the newspapers for yardsales and do drive-bys later in the day to get the free stuff.

We couldn't do a yard sale where we lived in NH last summer when we were getting rid of stuff to move to Florida. There was SO MUCH! We would just put things out by the dumpster at our apartment complex, and they would be there less than an hour each time. We gave/sold a lot to some friends of ours- grill, couch, fish tank, etc. We went to visit when we were back in NH last winter, and it was really neat to see all our stuff at their house.

I kind of picture all the stuff we used to have in lots of people's houses in NH. It makes me feel less sad. I remember CRYING at throwing some stuff away! There was this chair I had had since I was 10 years old and throwing it away after 17 years:( :( :(

What made me feel better was thinking about all the new stuff we were going to buy after our move.:sunny:
