I did something nice for another Guest at WDW last week and a Cast Member saw what I did and gave me a set of the YOAMD Tinkerbell Pixie Dust Pins. The instructions said to give the second pin to another Guest, but I gave mine to a Cast Member who was really, really wonderful. Was it all right to give it to a Cast Member or should I have given it to another Guest as the instructions stated? Also, how rare are theTinkerbell Pin sets-I had never seen one before? Thanks.:)

Actually, I think that's quite nice you gave it to a cast member. Cast members don't, in practice, receive tokens of appreciation very often, and cannot be given a Tinkerbell pin by a manager. So in my opinion, very well done. They are as rare as the manager is stingy with them. In my experience, pretty durn rare.

I think that you did the right thing.

Several years ago, my wife and I bought several WWWD pins. We carry these to Disney and give them to cast members who are extra super awesome.

Hi .. My daughter and I were in AK on Dec 9 and started to talk to a CM while waiting for the train. As the train pulled in she handed a YOAMD Tink pin to my daughter. It was a "pass one on pin" as stated on the package. My daughter was very grateful to receive the pin and it took her until after the train ride to realize what the pin was for :goodvibes

Thanks for the information!:) I am really extra glad I gave the pin to the Cast Member now that I know it is rare for them to receive one.The Cast Member was very deserving and seemed very excited to get it.:) I have a YOAMD lanyard/pin set that I am thinking of taking on my next trip and giving to a deserving Cast Member.Would the YOAMD pin/lanyard set be a token gift of appreciation that a Cast Member would enjoy receiving? Thanks.:)

I was told by a CM at DTD that the pin lanyards they wear while working are strictly for pin trading with guests -they aren't allowed to take the pins home or even swap out the pins from their "work" lanyard with a personal lanyard if they collect and trade pins themselves. I don't particularly think that's fair, especially if a guest goes the extra mile to give a nice or rare pin to a CM but I can see Disney's reasoning behind it, too.

Does this mean that the Cast Member will have to trade the Tinkerbell Pixie Dust pin I gave them with a Guest?I did not receive a pin from the Cast Member in exchange for the Tinkerbell pin.I gave the Cast Member the pin as a personal gift-a token of appreciation.Won't the Cast Member be allowed to keep it?Thanks.:)

That would be up to the cast member. Really, yes, absolutely. A gift is a gift, and does not have to be given away. A trade however must be put on the lanyard for future trading. It would be up to the discretion of the cast member if they chose to put it on the lanyard for trading, but it would certainly not be required. I was fortunate enough to have an incredibly kind guest gift me with a pin on two separate occasions! The only exception is, if the cast member puts it on the work lanyard, even just for safe keeping, it becomes tradeable, and if someone asks for it, it must be traded.

We did the same thing. Received a tinkerbell pin set and gave the other one to a very nice cast member at Animal Kingdom!! Kudos...

I was at Old Key West almost 2 weeks ago and I think I saw some of these sets behind the counter of a take out restaurant. I think it was tink. Anyway, I was going to ask about them, but didn't. I wonder if I would have gotten one if I would have asked. Anyway, congrats and that was nice what you did. There are some really gret CMs that deserve to know they do a great job.

One of the mousekeepers at CBR gave my daughter one of these pins last week. He came to bring us clean glasses and saw my daughter laying on the bed with her cast on her foot. He gave her the second half of the set (the one that is supposed to be given to someone) and told her to "feel better". It was very sweet :)

We received them this year for our anniversary. I thought that was really sweet of the CM at Fort Wilderness where we were staying.
They say one to keep and one to give away so I would think you could give one to whom ever you like.

I gave a set of the Pixie Dust pins out last night. I love giving them out. Stickers too. I always keep an assortment of stickers in my pocket to give out whenever I can.

You can give them to a CM and they can keep them if you do. If you trade it for a pin on their lanyard, then they cannot keep it. We are discouraged from accepting gifts, but it isn't forbidden. Money is another matter. We aren't allowed to accept monetary gifts unless we are in a role that allows tipping.

You should have given it to another guest. While it was undoubtedly a fine gesture, CMs are asked to discourage guests from giving them the second pin.

Well now, that depends. My management team has always been extremely liberal in giving us Pixie Dust Pin Packs to give to guests.

As for Management giving them to CMs: they are intended to be given to Guests, not to CMs for personal use.

If a Guest actually GIVES (not trades) a pin to a CM, they may keep it. However, if the CM puts that pin on their work lanyard, and another guest wants it and wants to trade for it, the CM must trade it -- CMs are not permitted to decline a trade, as long as both pins meet Pin Trading Guidelines (i.e. must be a Disney or Operating Participant pin, must be metal, in good condition, etc.). However, CMs are strongly encouraged to discourage Guests from giving them gifts.

I have an issued Pin Lanyard that stays in my locker when I'm not wearing it -- but I've never been told that I'm not permitted to bring it home. In fact, I know plenty of CMs who openly wear theirs while travelling home.

They may, unless they place it on their Work Pin Lanyard. Then, they must trade it if another guest wants it.

I would STRONGLY encourage you NOT to give the YOAMD Pin lanyard set to a CM. CMs are not allowed to participate in the YOAMD Prize Giveaway. If a guest gives a YOAMD Pin set to a CM, and management or Security catches them with it, they can -- and likely will -- be terminated.

Buzz is correct. As much as a CM might like to have the YOAMD Pin Lanyard set, we cannot accept it and would have a hard time explaining how we came about having it.

If you really want to recognize and thank a CM, I would recommend writing a letter or email to Disney and mentioning the CM by name and recognizing them for something they have done. These letters often get printed in company newsletters and it's really cool to see your name in print.

Thanks for the information!:) I had no idea it was such a big deal to give a Cast Member a pin as a token of appreciation. The Cast Member I gave the Tinkerbell Pin to was WONDERFUL.The last thing I would want to do is get them in trouble with their manager.Should I write their manager a letter and apologize for giving the Cast Member the pin?I really did not realize the seriousness of what I did. Thanks!:)

Giving a pin isn't a problem. We have several guests who give us pins or candy or cookies or whatever. These items are small and of little real value monetarily. The problem would be if you gave the entire pin lanyard to a CM or if you gave them something of value (other than sentimental value). There is a couple (Buzz, do you get to meet the Hellers?) who comes regularly, and gives pins and buttons to CMs. They take our pictures, and generally appreciate us. They are a joy to have around, but they know the limits and respect them.

If you're ever not sure, ask a CM or a manager if what you'd like to do is OK. they will say yes or no, and you can decide from there. There is no need to write the manager of that CM, unless you WANT to.

Rachael & Richard? Lovely people.
