YOAMD mailing question

Are you using plain postcards? I am a bit nervous about sending - in plain view - my full name, address, phone number AND date of birth. Has anyone sent a postcard in an envelope? Is that acceptable? Of course, I will mail fewer because that will cost almost twice as much.

Just interested in hearing thoughts on this, including telling me my paranoia is getting the better of me, if necessary. :teeth:

I have a stack of 20 or so postcards we didn't use to announce our new address which also has a line for phone number and then all I added was D.O.B. I send them as is with no envelope. I'm more concerned about trying to win the DVC membership!! :)

When sending a postcard with personal info like that...always mail it at the post office. From that point on, it will only be handled by government workers lessening your chance of anyone else looking at it...

Why are you sending postcads for yomd? I thought once you registered online you were enterred. Is this wrong- or is this for something else?

How do you register on-line? I couldn't find an on-line registration.

You can send it a 3x5 hand written card each day, till 12-31-07. But the post office don't accept 3x5 cards, they have to be 3.5 x 5 cards. So we are trying to decide if these 3x5 cards need to be used, but sent in an envelope.

No one can get ahold of WDW to confirm.

What do you mean? Who but postal workers are handling your mail if you mail it at a mailbox down the street, or put it in your own home's mailbox to be picked up? Am I missing something here? :confused3

We live in a rural area and there have been times when people have had their mail stolen before the carrier picks it up...
Some thieves will do that looking for credit card numbers on your bills and checks...
Sorry if I wasn't clear...but part of the question was the concern that personal info was in plain view...

I bought the prepaid postcards at the postoffice and mail one each for me,DH and DD every day except on Sundays. I'm trying to see how long I can keep doing it without letting go of the "We might win -feeling" :rotfl:

We won't be back until Sept -07, I need to be busy with something Disney in the meantime! ;)

Good luck to all of you!!!!! :goodvibes

I printed off the rules yesterday from an email link sent by DVC. The rules read 3.5"x5" postcard.

I too haven't seen anything to register online. Any help?

Can some one post a link of the address that we need to send them to. Thanks Kathy

I just purchased some of these from USPS, they measure 3.5"x5.5". Is that what you're using? I'm so anal that I think I'll trim these down to the 5" width Disney states on their site. :confused3

I am also using the USPS postcards and I send out one a day.

I'm not worried about the fact that the directions say 3.5x5 and the post offices are 3.5x5.5. I think its just a misunderstanding.

The post office won't accept anything smaller. I doubt Disney would ask for a size that the USPS won't deliver.

I hope some DISers win either through the mail or in person!! :wizard:

Weird, the rules I have state 3 x 5 too. I got the link from here so try a search if you are looking for the address. I can't get up to get my printed copy, baby sleeping in my lap.

Also interested in on-line registration. Still not comfortable with postcards.

Ugh, tried to find it myself but can't get the search function to work for me so not very good advice. Sorry!

Also, starting on September 18, 2006, eligible participants can enter without being present in a Disney Property by writing their full name, complete mailing address (including postal code), daytime telephone number (including area code), and date of birth on a 3.5"x5" postcard and sending it with proper postage affixed to: (i) if a legal resident of the United States, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Canada or Mexico: P.O. Box 8629, Elmhurst, IL 60126; or (ii) if a legal resident of the United Kingdom: Disney Dream Giveaway, 483 Green Lanes, London N13 4BS. Participants may enter once per day during the Giveaway Period. All mail-in entries must be mailed separately, postmarked by December 31, 2007 and received by January 14, 2008 or they will be void.

I believe the online registation was for one specific prize like one of the really big ones, maybe the one they're doing at MK on Oct 4, I think (the one where they'll be 1000 CM lining Main Street and one family gets to have the park to themselves before the park opens to the general public). I'm not sure though. It was one entry per address as well and not per day. If I find the link or the original thread on it (search is down) I'll post it here.

This sending in of postcards daily is different than the online entry that they had over a month ago. The postcard entries are just another way to enter in case you won't be at Disney World in the next year (or to increase your chances) to be picked for a Disney Dream.

They've changed it. On 9/22/06 when I printed that link out - I am looking at it right now - it clearly says just 3"x5". They must have changed it since then to reflect postal regulations. Glad that is cleared up though, thanks!

Back to my original question ... anyone leery of doing it? Are there any creative, alternate ideas for not mailing it out in the open?

I've been mailing mine on 3x5 index cards in envelopes. I hope that doesn't disqualify me... :guilty:
