Yo, I Got Your Chit Chat Right Here

Some folks got together, and got somebody to clean my house for me on Friday. I've NEVER had anybody clean my house for me. While my house is not really dirty, I'm a bit embarrased. There are some corners that have been neglected for awhile. I usually get on a tear every couple of months are really scrub everything, but didn't do it before my surgery. What should I expect?? They said something about the bathrooms, floors, dust, vacuum, and walls?? What are they going to do to the walls?? Are they going to move furniture and stuff??

Do any of you have a house cleaner come in?? Do I need to provide some lunch??

This is all so new to me.

Oh boy..you sound like me. I have had some issues with Siatica, and my husband wants to have someone come in every couple of weeks or even once a month to help me out. Mind you..I too have NEVER had any help in the house. I told him I couldn't possibly have someone in the house until we replaced the upstairs bathroom! It's pretty much off limits to guests..and I wouldn't want anyone cleaning it either. He just shook his head. :rolleyes1

My mom on the other hand has always had a housekeeper come once a week(well, after I left home..before that it was ME!) One day I was talking to her on the phone while on my hands and knees dusting the tressle of my dining room table. Very annoyed..she asked me..."Why don't you just have the cleaning people do that?"....HELLO...I AM THE CLEANING PEOPLE MOM! :rolleyes1

I guess I should be grateful for the help..but I'm the type to clean before the cleaning person would come.
My advise is don't be a fool like me...accept the help..you've had some major surgery:hug: ..let yourself be spoiled for a bit. Now..if I could just follow my own advise.

I am bored, I am gonna go crack open a bottle of local wine, volant wineries, and have a glass..... Just thought I would let you know.

Carol & Phyllis!!!!! You 2 sound like my wife when she has 2 legs!!! I offered to have someone come and clean the house once a week(this was a while back)...and she refused because she was afraid that if something came up on days that the maid service was scheduled to show up, she'd be too embarrassed if she werent able to clean up before the service arrived!!! My wife straightens up hotel rooms before housekeeping shows up!!! She cleans up so someone can come in and clean up!!!! Wimenz iz crazy!!!

Can't have someone come in the room with the bed unmade.

OMG, I thought I was the only one like that!!! My dh tells me to have someone come in once a week...but it would be too much work for me to have it all picked up and neat before they got here! :rotfl: j/k

I'm one of those people who will clean the house top to bottom when I know we have guest coming. I feel all kinds of wierd if we have folks stop over when the house is not all tidy. I wish I could change it...but that's just me.

You know, this new thread title reminds me of a nasty old parsimmon tree that was on the property where my parents owned an apartment building. We would go out there every week in the summer to cut the grass. I knew those things were nasty and tart, but would convince my brothers every year that they were now "ripe" and would taste good.

I do the same thing! Jim just shakes his head and makes fun of me.:confused3

You have all just described me to a "t"! Having a cleaning person just seems like too much work (for me)!

Wine is ok, it's not a beer tho...

In another life, I was in hotel rooms A LOT, and I pity the poor maids that came in our rooms LOL. I even have a few bills to prove their point. :0

One of the worst was in Gainsville, we were there for a car show, and it rained all weekend, and we unpacked and packed in about 2 feet of water, well lets just say that we decided that we could turn the heater on, put our wet shoes on them, go our for a while, and come back to miraculously dry shoes....

So let me recap, old sweaty nasty sneakers, a fan blowing hot air, and a tiny little hotel room in the middle of a fl summer.... Lets put it this way, we moved to a different hotel that night and checked out of them both the next day, and we flipped for who had to go in and get the stuff out of it.....:lmao:

I've had cleaning people here and there over the years, and a good friend of mine has her own cleaning business.

Typically they will dust all surface areas. They should move things around and dust under them too. They'll vacuum/sweep/mop the floors moving light things around (baskets, ottomans, things like that). They clean the outside the appliances, inside the microwave. Sweep cobwebs from ceiling corners.

More thorough ones will also dust ceiling fans, top of kitchen cabinets, top of doorways and windowsills.

Our lady did NOT make beds, clean up kids toys or do laundry. I always had the kids make sure their rooms were picked up that morning.

Other than making sure the kids rooms were picked up...the only other thing I precleaned was the toilets just to make sure they were presentable.

My friend's biggest pet peeves are:

1-people who leave a sink full of dirty dishes. Hard to clean the sink when it's full and she doesn't wash dishes.

2-Nasty toilets

3-people who follow them around and watch them work

I can top ya'll's cleaning up for the housekeeper & making beds in hotel rooms stories.

If my DH ever knew I was sharing this, he'd be mortified....

On our wedding night, DH was constantly getting drinks shoved in his hand at the reception & by the end of the night, well....he was pretty well blotto!! So much so, that he hugged the porcelain throne the entire night. When he did come to bed any movement I made sent him into another puking torrent! Due to his "tummy problem", I finally gave up and went to sleep in one of the other beds.

The resort we had our reception at gave us a 3 room suite for our wedding night, complete with 2 king beds, 2 double beds & 2 murphy beds.

In the morning, DH wanted me to make the bed I slept in so the maid didn't think we had a fight or something equally stupid. Did I make the bed? Oh heck no!! I went thru the suite and messed up ALL the beds!!! I wanted to make my new husband look like a raging stud!!!

The really funny part was (well, it wasn't funny then)...my DBro (whom all of you know as NTSammy5) CALLED us at 7:00am to see if we consummated our wedding!

I lied!:3dglasses

:lmao: :lmao: Ahh, but now he knows the truth, and your DH will be forever chastised!

I know this sounds corny, but that to me is one of the most thoughtful gifts anyone can give someone that has been sick. It just really means so much to the person.

Way to go AL! In our circle of friends over the years, it has become a tradition to keep your honeymoon hotel a secret, so you don't get calls, knocks, deliveries and harassment all night....

That is how it started for me. I was a SAHM with three little kids and a broken ankle. I was in a cast for 6 weeks during the hottest part of the summer. My dh sprung for a once a week cleaning and I was hooked ;)

Around here they used to wait for your return home for your "seranadin" the bride had to ride in a wah tub and the groom on a fence post. They used sirens, pots and pans, chainsaws whatever they could to make some noise. It was best just to come out of your house and take it.
