Yippee! Our much needed MAW trip at GKTW Dec. 5-16

Just stopped by to say HI! Loved all of the new photos, your family is PRECIOUS! I am POSITIVE from reading TR's and questions on the DIS that the allergies will be carefully taken care of at WDW! You are going to have such a wonderful time, I am certain...and it looks like DL has been a LOT of fun for you all!

subbing, I can't wait to see how E's trip goes! Thanks for sending me here too, I am going to read through everyone's trips, I think dd would love wdw, like I told you though, not sure if I can get the dh on board with flying.:(

I hope you can somehow work it out. Thank you so much for checking out our report. Maybe you could go to Disneyland if you can convince him?

Thank you!

Thank you so much! I've been catching up on your trip report too. You have such a beautiful family!

We had an eventful couple of weeks between E and K's and my birthday's and their party, E's scans and then camping. E and K's birthday party was supposed to be at the park but it ended up being too cold and windy so it got moved to my sister's house since it's bigger. Then the next day we left for scans. E does really well with them and has never needed to be put under for them. (only for radiation since it's in a separate room from us) The only issue we had this time is getting his counts at the lab instead of through his port since it's now removed. We usually go to a local place that has the sweetest lady that used to work at a children's hospital. This time since we had made the drive to children's we went to their lab and the lady that drew his labs wouldn't look at him, talk to him or reassure him at all and he got really nervous and was shaking through the whole think. Usually he doesn't mind at all and much prefers it to his port.

His port access was awful until we started using homeopathics to calm his nerves. He would bawl, vomit, and stop speaking for the whole appointment. It was awful. Now he's been barely nervous. But this time it didn't go so well and I think we just got someone that was having a bad day or something. The only thing she said the whole time was, "Besides crying how does he do?" We told her he didn't usually cry and she looked surprised. Things went much better after that and his scans were clear. My inlaws met us there since they live 6 hours away and the hospital is a midpoint. So the kid's got to play with their grandparents and aunt and uncle while we waited. He also had a hearing test that day that went great! All scans were clear and the only thing wrong was his one kidney is still struggling and they want us to push more fluids. We work on it constantly and he drinks all day long but it never seems to be enough. I guess we will just have to keep trying.

We stayed another night for physical therapy in the morning but when we got there they said the PT we had an appointment with called in sick and they forgot to call us. Luckily because we traveled so far they found another one willing to take us a couple hours later so we went food shopping for camping(we were leaving immediately after) and then returned. The PT was amazing and we're going to see him from now on. He knew exactly how to get my guy to have fun and get him to do the exercises. He's going to let us work with him at home and come back in three months with his scans so we don't have to make an extra long trip.

We left for camping up to Big Sur, CA with my brother, dad and stepmom. There is a bridge that fell to the north so we had to go the south route with lots of windy roads. Little K got sick on the way there:sad1: and I felt so bad for her. It was supposed to rain but we had camped before with rain there and it wasn't so bad with all the trees so we decided to go anyway since my brother had pre-paid the sites. Well, it poured sheets for two days. E had lots of fun but K was miserable. She wanted down the whole time and it was so muddy and slippery. Everything was drenched and the tents were wet inside. While we packed up everything to go, the ranger came and said there was mudslides/rockslides to the south and we were stuck in Big Sur! :scared1:We ended up getting a small cabin for all of us since we were all freezing and everything was soaked. We were all almost out of clothes and food. I was worried about E since it's hard to find things he likes right now that are gluten free.

After checking into the hotel/cabin the power went out. Luckily the heater was propane and still ssssllllooowwwwelllly started heating the room. We had to get food somewhere since there was nowhere to cook. The room had no phone and cell service was sketchy in the whole town. The next day we packed up and camped out on the PCH/1 for hours in hopes they might let some cars through. Finally after 6 pm they let some through and we made it!:yay: There were rocks still sliding down the hill and we almost hit a huge one and the Caltrans was yelling 'GO, GO, GO!!!' What an adventure!popcorn:: I love it there and it is amazingly beautiful but I think we've had our fill for awhile.:rotfl: Being trapped between cold ocean and huge mountains high in the rocky hills is enough for my clausterphobic self. Everyone wanted to stop at a beach on the way home but I insisted on waiting until we were on flatter land and we stopped in San Simeon instead.;)

Now we are all 4 home and sick but it's great to be safe, warm and dry with internet.:surfweb: We still haven't heard from our wish granters about May so I'm thinking that might not happen and if it doesn't I'm thinking of asking for early December maybe? I would love it being cooler and getting to see some of the Christmas decorations would be amazing.:lovestruc

I was going to ask, does anyone have any thoughts on bringing carseats? E is still in a 5 point harness but over 40lbs so he's too big for most seats. I'm really strict about car seat safety and since DH managed rental car companies for many years I'm really worried about the safety of rental seats with accidents, expiration, etc. I've heard horror stories with checking them though and K I'm assuming won't have a paid seat since she's under 2? I'd love the extra room on the plane of not having them and K HATES :headache:the carseat so that might be a huge struggle even if we did have the seat.

Wow what a adventure. That is way to much nature for me :scared1:
Hope you all feel better soon.

We are planning on bringing Ella's Blvd on the plane with us. Checking Avy's highback booster and 3 low back ones for the boys.

Hi there! Just reading your PTR and thought I would send along a welcome. My daughter was diagnosed with Wilms last year and had her right kidney removed. There are a handful of us here with Wilms kids--nice, isn't it? So few of them out there so it is nice to share experiences.

Hope your planning goes smoothly--and congrats to E getting his wish! Brooke is still waiting for for the wish grantors....

BTW: Your kids are soooo yummy looking. :)

Too much for me too!

Thank you so much for your input. Maybe I could bring one for E and check K's? Or I could check them both. I wonder if there is a way to insure them?

Thank you so much! Wow, so you are the third person on here I've heard of that has a child with Wilms on the boards. I seem to be meeting more and more lately. I know two others on FB. I will have to read you PTR. I'm trying my best to go through them.

I posted this in the Wisher's thread but thought I'd post it here too.

We just heard from MAW and we can have dates of May 5-11th. Should we take them? Are we going to be dying of heat exhaustion(keeping in mind I hate the heat)?

I'm debating between that and early December since it will be cooler and DD will be closer to 2 and might have more fun.

Also how many days would you add on if you could? I'm thinking 2-3 but I'm wondering if we'll still feel like we need more.

It's soon, but if you don't mind quick planning, then I say go for it! I have no idea what to expect in term of temperatures as I've only ever been to Florida in December myself! Hope someone else can help you out with that.

I was wondering myself whether or not to have an extra few days if we can swing it. Would be nice to have some downtime and take the girls to a proper beach! I'd probably add on about the same--unless, of course, we wanted to do more of the parks.

I say go for May. :thumbsup2
We hope to have our dates tomorrow and it looks like we will be there a week later then you. MAW doesn't give you much of a warning from what I have seen on this board :rolleyes1

Was just re-reading your story out loud for my hubby and he had to agree--sounds so familiar to our story! (Other than radiation, which B never had. And, instead of hearing loss, B experienced balance loss. Equilibrium was off and she fell down a few times, gashing her head twice on furniture. Had to take her to ER both times to get her glued back together. Luckily, her days of Humpty Dumptiness seem to be drawing to a close!:cheer2:) Right down to having a little sister to help distract us from this trying time in our life. :) My hubby even thought the picture of E and K sitting on the ground looked familiar. With their short crewcuts, E and B could pass for twins!

Glad to hear E's scans and hearing tests came back clear! And happy belated birthday wishes to all of you!

Once you have your dates, you might be interested in contacting a Fairy God Mailer (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2440121&highlight=fairy+godmailer) for some extra magic for E and K! Basically, the concept behind this is a thoughtful person who is going to WDW ahead of you will send each of the kids a postcard of their fave characters saying 'Looking forward to your visit' or something similar. Really gets the kids excited about their upcoming trip! Then, you pay it forward when you arrive--you pick up a postcard and mail it to another kid who's trip is coming up.

Thought you might like to know in case you hadn't already read about it. :)

Thank you so much for your input! We ended up picking December mostly because E said he really wanted to go and see the Christmas decorations. It's too bad we aren't going the same time so we can meet up!

Thank you for the birthday wishes. I posted on your PTR but our stories do sound very similar and our kids do look a lot alike. We also had many troubles with falling. We used to constantly walk by him outside because he fell every time. He hit his head the one time we left him with my dad on his weird-shaped coffee table and still has a scar.

Thank you so much, I hadn't seen that yet. That sounds like so much fun. E would love that.

We talked to MAW today and she said the 1st or 2nd week in December will be fine. She said she'll order the tickets in mid-Sept. I'm so excited and hope we made the right decision. The only thing I'm worried about is if J does get a new job in that time that they will be okay with the time off. Hopefully they will understand though. E really did seem excited about going at Christmastime and this gives us lots of time to plan.:cool1:

From what everyone says, Christmas is a great time.... I love the photos, especially of Big Sur. I love Big Sur. A friend and I used to go up there every year, camp and go to a music festival in Monterey!
Also let your little guy know that there is going to be a CARS 2 this summer!!!! There was a family here in the town where I live near, that had a child with Wilms.... She didn't make it:( but we got to talking after telling her about my son's kidney failure. It is interesting how things work....and how you get to know people who have faced things once they know you are facing something....

If I could go anytime (no schedules to work around) I would have pick the first week of December. Low crowds and BEAUTIFULLY decorated! You are going to have a BLAST! I wanted to let you know I am still here following along! :goodvibes

I just realized I hadn't updated in quite some time! I'm so sorry! I hope everyone had a great Easter! We have been having a pretty uneventful few weeks. We are working on our garden today with lots of yummy vegetables that will hopefully grow. :rotfl: We filled Evan's Easter basket with lots of seeds and gardening tools in place of lots of candy this year. He got one chocolate bunny and a couple of Peanut butter eggs but we're trying to feed him as many whole foods as possible to build up his health.

I'm going to start watching a newborn in a few weeks for some friends of ours and hopefully get my yarn dyeing business going again along with a little bit of photography, so that should keep us extra busy. We will be homeschooling E because of his food allergy and many other reasons this year. We've been looking at curriculum and we went to a park day with a local homeschool group. Lots of exciting things coming up for our family this year! Evan's scans are coming up again in June and he will be meeting with his physical therapist again. We're continuing therapy at home for the time being. I feel so blessed that he has been doing so well and I pray it continues.

We recently visited a friend's farm and that was a ton of fun! We saw a baby cow, pigs, llama's, alpaca's, baby chicks-ducks-geese, a milking goat, dogs, cats, bunnies, and I'm sure something I'm forgetting. LOL The kids had so much fun exploring and it was great to be outside having good, well not-clean, fun.

He is very excited about Cars 2! I can't wait to take him to see it. I also can't wait until Cars Land is open at DL. You can see the hilltops forming now and he is so sad that it's not done yet.:wizard: It looks like it will be amazing though when it's finished. That's so true about finding people once you're facing something. I don't know if it's that you notice it more or if you just get put together somehow.:lovestruc I will have to check out your PTR.

And the central coast is amazing! There is just something so peaceful about it. I especially love visiting in the summer because it is so hot here and so much nicer there.:cloud9:

Thank you so much! I just noticed you met with your wish coordinators! I'm so happy for your family.:lovestruc

I wanted to let you know I am still here, Praying and looking for an update! :goodvibes

Thank you so much! I'm so sorry it's taken me so long.

Nice to see you. :lovestruc
I am excited you are going to start Dyeing again. I have one of your colorways (I think you did it and not Tina) hidden in my pile waiting for me to knit something with it. I just haven't found the perfect pattern for it yet. :thumbsup2
