I just read an announcement in the latest "News Alert from DVCMember.com" saying there will be "an enhancement" to the World Passport Collection. Whenever a company announces "an enhancement" to a membership product, you know that you are in trouble! :scared1:

It sounds like Disney is dropping II entirely and going back to RCI, which is whom they used to use for trades. I feel this is really bad news for any DVC member who might want to trade via the World Passport Collection. RCI has terrible customer service. In the past, they have also been accused of taking the best weeks deposited with them and renting them out rather than letting members get them as exchanges, so I'm not sure they will have anything good to exchange to. In fact, just days ago, they signed a settlement in a class action lawsuit brought by current RCI members. Furthermore, most of the nicest timeshares trade only in II -- this includes most Marriotts, most Sheraton & Westins, and all Four Seasons. the only high-end brand RCI has is Hilton.

RCI does have a much wider range of destinations, but as both a RCI member and II, I can say that RCI is really, really hard to deal with compared to II. I find it hard to believe that DVC would announce a switch to RCI just days after RCI had to settle a class action lawsuit from their members!!!

I urge all of my fellow DVC owners here to complain, and request that at the very least, II be kept as an option. I'm not sure whom we are supposed to complain to, but I will see about calling my Vacation Guide tomorrow. (Although I'm afraid he's never been very responsive in the past, possibly because I bought resale.)

Here is the announcement:
Disney Vacation Club enhances World Passport Collection

With a growing number of Members exploring a world of vacation destinations beyond their Home Resorts, Disney Vacation Club is committed to ensuring that those Member Getaways exchanges present the best and most diverse experiences possible. It's with this commitment in mind that Disney Vacation Club has formed a relationship with RCI, the world's largest vacation-exchange company, effective Jan. 1, 2009.

While Members will continue to choose from more than 500 destinations across six continents and 25 countries, the enhanced Member Getaways program will offer a significantly broader range of resort experiences, length-of-stay options (including more nightly exchanges) and more.

Members will receive more details by mail and here on the Web site beginning in late December, and the new Vacation Planner is scheduled to begin mailing in the late spring.

To ensure a smooth transition to RCI, Members may continue to confirm available exchanges through the current World Passport Collection through Dec. 31, 2008, and all exchanges booked by that deadline will be honored.

You can't fight City Hall. Just accept it and move on. Want evidence, look at the outcry when the Adventurers Club closed and the public support the place had to keep it open. Well, last I checked, it's still closed. Trust me, if Disney is making ten cents more using RCI, then they will make the switch. That's the way big companies work.

I agree with you completely - RCI has an absolutely terrible reputation - especially compared to the quality, selection and service provided at Interval International.

As a TUG member and a Marriott owner (which uses II exclusively), I'm well aware of all the negative publicity RCI receives. Based on the various TUG threads, it seem like there's no comparison between the quality and service provided by II compared to the extremely poor reputation at RCI.

I'm afraid this sounds like another "enhancement" which benefits Disney's bottom line at the expense of us DVC owners.

Let's hope for the best,
Dave

Oh, this makes me livid! We would never, ever, ever choose RCI affiliated resorts. (Okay, mostly never...the HGVC properties seem to be okay.) I've just sold a bunch of my contracts, but I'll dump the rest of them if/when the market recovers. GRRRRRR! I DO NOT want DVC to switch from II to RCI!

This certainly can not be good news for DVCers who want to occasionally trade out of DVC.....

I posted on another board, www.Timeshareforums.com

That is just crazy!

Not to insult the Loyal RCI members - but most of the quality resort groups are with II - Hilton and the Grand Mayan Group (hampered in RCI by the Visit one year - NO return for 5 more years rule!) being the exception.

Manhattan Club - one in 4 year rule.
Morritt's Grand - one in 4 rule.

No more Marriott's or Westin's or Four Seasons or Hyatt's Or Royal Resorts....this is going to hurt the owners!

DVC REALLY doesn't want you trading outside of their properties.

Hi Dave!:wave2: This is absolutely horrible news. I am so disappointed.......now I'll never get my Royal Sands Cancun trade!

I am not sure this is such a bad change. I had previously tried using II and found that I could not trade into the locations or regions that I had wanted. The same resorts would rent the timeshare for cash.

This in part, may be the reason for the change.

When they went to II from RCI it was one of a few reasons I sold our DVC. As far as I'm concerned its a RETURN to quality by returning to the much better selection / times RCI offers over II. GREAT move DVC!

Guess I'm still hopeful that enhancement means RCI option in addition to Interval??????????????????????Guess I'm being really optimistic...

Does anyone know anything else??????????????????:goodvibes

Go out to dinner, come home to this bad news!!!

This is terrible news for DVC. RCI has more resorts, but II has more quality resorts. I wonder how many resorts they will open up to DVC members to exchange into? Will the $95 exchange fee still stand for trades into DVC from other RCI resorts?

He said that he's showing plenty of DVC availability through 2011, and that they haven't heard anything at all about DVC dropping II. He suggested that maybe DVC is just adding RCI, so you can choose to use either network.

Here's hoping...

I am so upset....no more Atlantis Harborside II, no Royal Sands, no Westin Maui!!! No Marriotts!!! :scared1:

Then why would they only honor bookings thru Dec 31, 2008?

Wow..... don't know what to say. Always associated Disney with the Cream of the Crop. And I don't feel RCI reflects that.

Only thing I can think of is that Disney doesn't like blending with the Marriotts, Westins, Royals, etc. and instead of being amongst equals, Disney wants to stand out in a sea of mediocrity.

I've always thought of Interval as the "quality" and RCI as the "quantity"

I agree that it reads that they are dropping II as of 12/31/08. Is anyone in the same position I'm in where I deposited points for a future trade? I wonder how that will be handled?

I read it to be that if you have a search on, and don't get a match by Dec 31, 2008, then its cancelled.

Will this affect the short notice (less than 30 days) exchanges? I'm not really happy about this change :sad1:
