Well I came downstairs last night to have a snack. I heard a squeaking noise. I look under the table and..

There's my cat and a mouse having a showdown. I strangled my cat (not literally) to spit it out, which he did but I didn't realize it. He licked his lips and I thought he swallowed it. But I looked over the other way and there's my other cat after the mouse. I had to shoo them both away and lock one in the bathroom before the mouse and I were alone. My parents were both upstairs, so I couldn't get to them. Then I glance over and the mouse is climbing behind the garbage pail, which was my chance to get my parents. After I got them, they came and tried to get the mouse out but he wouldn't budge. At long last, and to our surprise, the mouse jumps out and runs straight at my mom. She jumped a foot in the air and watched the little critter skitter behind the china cabinet. We saw hum under there but we couldn't get to him. We called it a night and went upstairs.

What would you do?
Do you think I did OK in this situation?

Discuss.

I'm sorry but :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: I remember once we were at the dinner table and a mouse ran under the table and all of a sudden it went OVER my foot and I jumped up on top of the table screaming.:lmao: You did good. better than me.:lmao:

Uhmmm..I would kill it.
I don't want some disgusting creature in my house. Who knows what they carried from outside!

Shelly, I think you did good by not hurting the mouse (or your cat ;))
I would never kill a mouse. He isn't bothering me, just an unexpected....surprise.

You're probably the most disgusting creature in your house. There are more diseases and bacteria in your mouth alone than on both the cat and mouse combined.

Your cat was doing what it was built to do. What it was domesticated to do. Its killing pests. Why did you stop it? Do you want a mouse infestation? You should praise your animal for doing things like this. Its trying to do something good for you, but you punish it by taking its toy away. Do you understand how that feels to the cat?:confused3

This hasn't happened in a while but...

When my cats find a mouse they play with it, kill it, and dump it right in front of my dad to show off and prance around.

:teeth:

omg this reminds me of a story
it was the first day of school (like 3 days ago) and i was downstairs idk getting ready or w/e
so anyway i went into the dining room and i see this little grey thing on the floor just kinda lying there
now i didn't have my glasses on so i couldn't really see it so i was on my knees about 2 feet away from it then i finally realized what it was
a lovely little DEAD MOUSE that my cat had left for me as a "trophy" of sorts
so me being totally skeeved my dead anything i scream holy #%$^ and run into the bathroom
my dad took care of it but still it was severely creepy

I just would have let my cats eat the dang mouse
If they're hungry and they see a mouse that looks mighty tasty, by all means, eat it
Gets rid of my rodent problem

If you were in the mouse's position
Would you want me to let the cat eat you?
I know I wouldn't.
And I know what you're going to say.
"It invaded your home"
"I'm not in it's position, so why should I care?"
Well I care about living creatures.
I believe everything has a right to live.
In my religion, God put us on this planet. He wants us to respect all living things.
If you don't think this is true, depict this: A man is walking on a street one night. He randomly walks into some guys house, and the owner of the house shoots and kills him.
Would God find this acceptable?
Of course not. Well you're probably saying "Mice and people are different." Well, we're not. We have a pulse, We breathe. We live.
And about the cat thing, yes it's doing what it "should". But I don't think it should be doing that. It's like raising your child to hold a gun and kill. Is it nessecary? No. My cats have already killed, like, 6 innocent baby bunnies. Do you think that's OK? Not in this house it isn't.

let one of my cats eat it (i have 3)

i think i would let him eat the cat bc like i wouldnt let a miuse then free in my house i would like either no offence let it be killed cuz dats the circcal of life or i would put it out side ( no offecnce mickey )

My mom would get a broom and start killing the rat with it!
Yeah, I would freak, run away and probably let the cat eat it.

Rats are just nasty.

Wow you did alot better than I would have done I would have screamed and ran up stairs tl my room shut the door and would have not came out until it was dead

I'd let my cat eat it.
But, I wouldn't watch, it'd make me sick.

Not that my cat would care about the mouse.
My cat has no desire to do anything useful.
He hasn't caught a spider in forever.
He just sleeps now.

If there was a mouse in my house (knowing that my cat would not do absolutley anything) I'd scream until my brother gets it out of the house.
My brother is the animal lover, not me.

I care about living creatures.

But I'm also not ignorant to the cycle of life. Things die. Things are killed. And things eat each other.

You said you didn't find the mouse, it hid under the cupboard or something? I'd be willing to bet money on that your cats did find it and did eat it. You only prolonged its torture.

oh, and yes, I think its perfectly acceptable that your cat kills rabbits.

I had to laugh when I read this, I was just imagining my mom's reaction if a mouse came running towards her.
She screams loud enough when the cat brings lizards, locusts, and birds in the house, so I can just imagine a mouse running at her.

::yes:: Exactly. I wouldn't feel right letting my cat eat it...
