Just started pulling up car rentals for the week of 3/31 through 4/9 and prices are through the roof, starting at $1300 for a midsize SUV i.e. escape, cherokee, durango, I've always been under $400.00 for the same car just not that week. Any suggestions or promo codes anyone knows about, if I have to tell my DH a car rental is going to run us $1300.00 on top of everything else, he is going to flip a lid!!! Suggestions please!!

Once you get to WDW do you plan on leaving the area to go elsewhere? If not I would book either ME or a car service from the airport to your resort and just use Disney transportation. One trip we went to Universal so we just booked a car service. We always rented a car then we realized that we just look at it in the parking lot and really never used it.

We are driving to port canaveral for the disney cruise as well and definitely need the rental car. We don't want to have to be at the mercy of Disney transportation for everything we do, it takes so much longer to get where we need to go. My DH took their transportation once from one park back to our hotel and it took him over an hour to get there. By the time he got there, he almost had to leave again to come back and meet us for our dinner reservations and it took him 45 mins to get back to us!

You can use the corporate code 1660221168 with Thrifty if you like. It belongs to the property management company for the building I work in and no ID is required to use it. The rate for your dates for a Grand Cherokee or similar is $542.27 including taxes and free additional driver. Thrifty is onsite at Orlando.

I'm sure rates will drop with other car rentals as you get closer to your dates so keep checking.

Is Thrifty right in the airport, or do we have to shuttle from airport to Thrifty? Do you think prices will drop as I get closer and I should wait? I didn't know if they would only increase! Thank You!!!

They are onsite at the terminal as I mentioned above but you may have missed it. I would book it and then just keep checking prices. They usually drop as it gets closer.

I just booked it but it came to 614.37 with all taxes there a bunch of different fees that are in there and I didn't add any options there is a 47.00 recession fee and a florida tax fee and a bunch of other fees. I couldn't get it at the 542.27, did I do something wrong?

Ya you must be entering something wrong. I get a total of $542.27.

I think the difference may be the return. My drop off time is at 6pm. Do you think that would make such a difference in price?
Thank you!

Ya that explains it. It looks like they charge $19.00/hr for extra time over the 24hr rental time. Often they will give you 1hr at their discretion with no extra charge and that's about it.

I posted this on another thread but have gotten PMs from others that used it.

Car and Driver has a discount code available to all readers (i.e. the general public) for Enterprise. It is XVC1006 and the pin is CAR.

Check out the mousesavers website. They have all kinds of promo codes there. I didn't need a car as big as yours, but was able to get quite a deal. It's worth looking at.

It's supply & demand stituation. The rates may still be high, but could drop closer to the date & you could modify, keep checking up to travel date.

You might want to consider ME to the resort & pick up a car onsite to shave the pricey 'extra days' off weekly rental.

You also mention going on a disney cruise, not sure if the time period u reference includes the car sitting @ port canaveral while u cruise. If so, u may want to look into those that offer a shuttle to the pier (hertz & avis?) & return the car, with a res for return rental to MCO after cruise. It may be even pricer, yet worth exploring.

good luck.

One thing I noticed.. by not useing a discount code from BJ's/Sams/Costco I got a better price.
I used the Alamo coupon for $25 off a weekly rental coupon that was on Alamo's site along with the pay it now option and the price was better. The rate was $40 more if I tried using the BJ/Sams/costco code along with the $25 off coupon. Go figure.
