Okay, here is the scenario: All opinions wanted

I can get Delta for $310 ea RT from Reno to Orlando and Back. has anyone ever been on those 18 row or so planes. I can opt for a return thru Salt Lake which gets us home earlier in the Eve (all are going to school the next day) but it is on one of those smaller planes :confused3

Or

I can get home later and come all the way on 757's after a stop in Atlanta.

Next question:

I have been flying SW for so long that to go to a "full Service" carrier is foreign to me. Do they offer meals & movies? When I see the seating charts that are available, can I pick any of the seats available?

Are the seats on the larger 757's not the turbo props the same size as those on SW, same width for my big bottom and same amount of leg room?

Due to the bankruptcy issue, if schedules change, does the airline notify me?
Is going e-ticket or ticketless the same thing and is it a hassle?

I feel like such an idiot not knowing this, but like I said living here in Podunck SW is usually the cheapest way to get anywhere.

Thanks,

I don't know what to suggest here.. Just depends on what you want

As a general rule you won't get meals. You may or may not get movies depending on your plane, but it will probably be the kind of plane where even if there is a movie its on the screens overhead, not personal video.
You can pick any of the seats it shows you except that if anyone in your party is under 15 you may not select an exit row.

Seem about the same to me.

They are suppose to notify you, but they notify in order of the dates effective so it could be a while before they get to you. Schedule changes have really nothing to do with bankruptcy on majors, it's just a part of thier business. I would just keep watching and call them if the change is not acceptable.

Yes, e-ticket or ticketless is the same thing and it's not a hassle. Paper tickets that can be lost cost more and are a hassle IMHO.

I love Delta. They usually sell food, or give you a lite snack.

I always, reserve my airline tickets very early, usually 1 year & 1 month to the day, since we usually fly on holidays, & know the only way tot get great fares, is to book asap.

Almost every carrier I have used, has changed my flight times. I check every few months. When they changeed, it has always worked out, in my favor.

If they change your flight, just make sure, that they reseated you & your DD.

Hope this helps.

 Thanks for the tips - I mentioned the turbo prop plane tonight at dinner, and due to the entire families reaction :scared1: , we will be returning slightly later, on a bigger airplane!

I checked out seatguru and the width is the same as SW, so my big butt will be just fine, :thumbsup2 as it gets along with SW. The majority of the seats on the plane diagram on seatguru had no color or symbols on them, so I assume they are all pretty much the same and it is just a location preference.

Thanks, I will be booking the Delta flights in the morning.

If you haven't already booked (or even if you have, since Delta allows you to cancel within 24 hours of your reservation with no penalty which is not quite as good as their old "we'll hold the fare for 24 hours" policy can you tell I fly Delta a lot :)) I would do anything to avoid changing planes in Atlanta. I haven't stopped there since 1984, but I can't see that it's gotten any less large, or that it takes less time to get from one gate to another. Turbo props are fine.

I am curious what you mean by turboprop. There is no turboprop that will fly you reno to orlando nonstop. I think you maybe comfused. Maybe a regional jet but I for sure wouldnt call that a turboprop.

Matt

I see your dilemma. Its not big deal flying a regional jet from slc to reno. Its a short flight first of all and its not like your on a cropduster. Also its regional jet with jet engines no crop duster lol

Matt

I would also think it's a regional jet (CRJ) I love to fly on these. They are easy on/off. They are smaller, but they are jets. They have 4 seats across with row down the middle.

I like to fly on delta, but just want to warn you of something. We have reservations on Song/Delta to fly from Bos to Orlando in April. Everytime they change the flight time, even by a minute, they drop the seat assignments. I have to contact them and get the seats reassigned. We are flying with 2 children and I don't want to take a chance that we will get separated. it is a pain, but I check it almost everyday. Once they change the times, the seat assignments are gone and you can't even use the web site to get them back. Need to contact them. One good thing is that each time they do get the exact same seats back, but it is a pain.

Thanks for all the great advice. :thumbsup2 Being a bunch of :scared:  whimpy, Xanax eating while consuming alcohol (only the adults, put the flame throwers away) flyers that we are, the bigger the better when it comes to a plane. I'm sure there is nothing wrong with the cropdusters oops I mean the jets that come out of SLC to Reno, but if you had seen the pure terror on my families face when I mentioned it last night you would understand why we are looking to see if Reno can expand their runway to accomodate a 747 by December! :rotfl2:

I went ahead and booked the Delta flights from Reno to Orlando and back with connections thru Atlanta both ways. The fare was pretty good $310.00 ea, of course since I am impatient and did not want to wait until SW fares come out in August/September then I am sure that when they do they will be for something stupidly cheap each way! oh well

Thanks for the tidbit about seat assignments, I will keep and eye on it. If there is a change of even a few minutes, will Delta notify me???

Thanks for all your help.

Delta won't notify you, so check in every so often (with Delta) and see if there is a change.

I am also a fan of the CRJ they are awsome. We fly them from South Bend alot. Mainly to Atlanta or Detriot. And then connect, But now they fly them from Atl to Naples.

You better make sure you are not in a middle seat on the 757 - you will be totally miserable. In fact just being in the back of a 757 you will be miserable. Seating is 3 and 3 and it is like a cattle car.

The regional jets are very nice and more comfortable in my opinion than a 757, especially if you can get an exit row.

Changing planes in Atlanta is very easy and the transportation between terminals is very good. The airport is busy but well organized.

Good luck either way. Enough :drinking1 and you will be fine!
