Yet another which hotel would you pick thread

We stayed in a King Room at Tropicana and LOVED it. Internet was great, fridge was perfect, location great and I’ve heard they recently renovated too (our stay was August 2016) at that time the king rooms we in the flyover across the driveway and the ones facing our had a nice view of the park. We faced in and were perfectly happy with our room and view. I also liked that staying 5 night instead of 4 ended up costing only an additional $25 due to their multiple night discount.

Pretty much almost all hotels have a resort fee. I'm pretty sure PVI has had it since we first started going there in 2013. My husband is military so when we do moves we stay at a lot of hotels. Even ones in the middle of nowhere with zero amenities charge resort fees. We got a military discount the first time and now get a frequent visitor discount (awarded when you call to make a reservation). Still worth it for all day parking, so you don't have to cough up $20 to pay at the park, then another $10-$20 to park at the hotel.

They just started it. People have been complaining because they haven’t been very forthright about it. I was just making the OP aware of it.

I thought I saw a mention of one on their website. Granted I've looked at so many I could as well be mixing them up too

It was reported here on DIS that the management was responding well to people’s complaints and were going to make it more obvious. Any complaints or issues people have had (I don’t recall any) have reportedly always been addressed and handled well by their management. Glad they’ve made it obvious now!

Here are my choices:

Best Western Park Place - King (right next to the pedestrian walkway, and deluxe continental breakfast - tiny pool, but in Dec, maybe not important)
Camelot - Deluxe King Mini Suite
Tropicana - King
Fairfield Inn - Premium View King room
Park Vue Inn - King Jacuzzi Room

We stayed at Fairfield a month ago and loved it. We're also Fairfield Inn loyalist and that was the deciding factor. The rooms were clean, big, had hardwood floors, had a fridge and safe, and the walk was fine. Loved having Panera right there for on the go meals and used the little lobby store and 4th floor "food court" a couple times. I have no complaints but I'm also nervous to try any hotel not backed by a "brand" name...

We stayed at Park Vue several years ago and LOVED it!! The only reason we didn't stay last time was because it isn't available on getawaytoday.com so we chose somewhere else that was available with them

Thanks. I wasn't aware of the renovation. There are so many choices, it was hard to narrow it down, that's for sure. I simply went with proximity and worked with those right there across the street. I want to limit it to walking distance only, otherwise, I'm open to most any of them. We didn't find the walk from DLH that far on our last trip so anything within that distance would be fine. Was there something specific about Residence Inn that you like better?

Well, we come with lots of baggage (...3 kids 6 and under...) so RI has way more room plus a full kitchen. We usually get a grocery delivery and the FFI fridges are teeny. The RI convention center is brand new, although the FFI has been renovated since so they're pretty close to on par now in that regard. Another huge factor for us is the free breakfast at the RI, it's full, not continental, so we only end up really needing dinner in the parks (grocery delivery takes care of lunch.) RI convention center is at Katella/Harbor, with a stroller it takes us about 12 minutes. We don't mind walking though. And really, when we've stayed at the FFI, we never end up going back during the day for breaks so the money is better spent on the space/kitchen/breakfast (for us.)

When not staying on-site, we have liked Best Western Park Place Inn and the Candy Cane Inn. Candy Cane is further by a little (on Harbor, closer to Katella, but on the same side of the street as DLR. It is less than a 10 minute walk to the turnstiles (or to security), but they have their own shuttle that you can take...very convenient....expansive continental breakfast and very good customer service.

We also use Marriott points, so I vote for the FFI. Those loyalty points really come in handy when you are planning a Disney trip. Another vote here for the Candy Cane Inn. If the budget allows for a Premium room, those are larger, come with a small refrigerator and a microwave, DVD player, amenities basket, bathrobes, breakfast delivered to the room, there is a private (free) shuttle, great customer service, clean rooms, etc. Various discounts offered, so check to see if you qualify for something. (And they are right next door to the A Mart convenience store and the 7-11 is next to that, so it's easy to get drinks and snacks at any hour.)

I don't believe we've ever experienced resort fees at HoJo's, Sheraton Park, BWPPI or Stovalls, Candy Cane or even Paradise Pier (if memory serves correct.) I know they exist at some Anaheim properties, but disagree that they are the norm. Usually I cross a place off my list if they have them because I just frankly refuse to pay for services that, in my opinion, should simply be included period!

Good info. I did book a room at FFI, since that stay, combined with our others at ATL will give us a free stay on our next trip to WDW. But, I may look at Candy Cane Inn too. I have heard lots of good things and the breakfast in the room is quite appealing, since DH and I don't get up at the same time. I can get up eat, get ready and he can get up and get ready and eat, and I'm not left waiting all that time.

We love that perk -- it really helps when everyone is getting ready for the parks in the morning. Breakfast is always delivered promptly at the time we request. And it has always been prepared exactly as requested, even to the point of the bagels being toasted exactly the way we like. And, if you want more food, you are welcome to visit the breakfast room for juice refills or more food.

I'd stick with FFI.
