Yet another washing machine question...

I just bought a front load washer and dryer. I purchased the pedestals but now I'm second guessing. I really like the idea of floor placement with a counter on top. I'm just not sure about the bending down. It is on a cement floor if that would matter.

What have you done? What do like or love about it. What do you not like?

Delivery is tuesday so I need to decide asap

If I had it to do over, I would have skipped buying the pedestals and did a countertop instead. The drawers in my pedestals collect a lot of dust and lint, and are a pain to keep clean.

I couldn't justify spending $400 on pedestals so I went without. Sometimes I do wish they were up higher because small items like sock sometimes cling way to the back of the washer or dryer and I have to practically climb in to get them out. I kneel every time I move clothes from the washer to the dryer because it is low. It really isn't a hassle, but if you have a bad back or anything, it might be an issue. It is nice having them down low to fold/set items on top, though. You don't really need a countertop other than to just look pretty.

In our next house, we will build a short platform for them, about half the height of the purchased pedestals. Not to store things in them but just to raise them up maybe 4 inches or so.

I've heard many people hate the pedestals because they rattle during the washer spin cycle and makes it louder than if it was just on a solid floor.

I saved the $400! I like having the space on top and the pedestals would have taken them to right below my cabinets. Sometimes you have to reach in for a stray soak or something, but I don't find it to be that much of a hassle. Maybe if I had pedestals the tops wouldn't become a "catch all".

I have never, and would never pay the extra for the pedestals. I have never had any trouble bending over and taking wash out, or putting/taking out wash out of dryer. I have cabinets above my washer/dryer with utility sink and cabinet between. Never a problem, plus bending helps keep me limber

I'm the PP of one of those other Washing Machine Threads. I've only had mine a few days and I've got to say I though I'd hate it but I love the FL. Thanks to everyone for the tips they posted. I did 10 loads of laundry in 1 day I didn't buy the pedestals, but my washer is elevated - our basement periodically floods with a 1/2 inch or so of water so both the washer and dryer are on a permanent shelf of about 5 inches. Just the right height for reaching into the washer and the dryer (my dryer is the old style). However; I don't think I'd spend the extra money just to elevate the washer and dryer. I don't think it would be that bad to bend into the machine. It's very easy to reach in there and my drum spins very easily and clothes on the side fall down when I spin it.

I have front loaders and would not go without the pedestals. I am 6 foot tall with a really bad back though. I will say that I haven't figured out what to put in the pedestals. Most days, I forget they are also drawers!

There are always people with different needs, and that's great, whatever is best for you. For me, though, they are a total waste, and would limit the tops (where I fold ), also my cabinets on top. Plus, I have nothing that I would want to put in the drawers.

Because of the placement of my water intake, and dryer vent they must be placed so that the doors open towards each other. It's a royal pain to take laundry out of the washer, over or around the doors, and into the dryer. I usually load it all into a basket slide it around and unload into the dryer. I hate handling it all twice and small things like socks always end up on the floor

Guess I never thought about dryer doors opening to the side - mine all have been from the top - guess I learn something new every day But I do love my Samsung FL

I don't have cabinets above mine and I love having the pedestals. In mine, I store my dryer sheets, liquid fabric softener etc.

Me too. I have a shelf above my Washer and Dryer but it is really high and I have to use a step stool to get to stuff on it. I love having the extra drawer space to store all the laudry stuff.

I didn't buy the pedestals - I like having the tops of the w/d to fold laundry, and I don't find it too hard to bend down.... even when I'm really pregnant. The one issue I do have is my DS messing with the buttons because they're right at his eye level - I wish my W/D had some sort of "lock" feature for the controls for those of us with curious toddlers.
