I have read every post that I can about seasickness here. I went to my local drugstore (Eckerd) yesterday to buy our medicine. This is what I bought:
*Sea-Band -- I bought three of these since it is safe for children.
*Bonine
*Less Drowsy Dramamine
*Clear Motion Herbal Motion Sickness Relief

I bought the Bonine and Sea-Band for myself. I do get motion sickness and have gotten sea sick on deep sea fishing trips. I figured that I could use the Bonine WITH the sea band since the sea band is not medicated. I am hoping that with both I will be ok. I bought the the Less Drowsy Dramamine in case the Bonine doesn't work. Also, I thought my DH might accidentally need something. (Although he has never gotten sea sickness or motion sickness before.) I thought by buying both medicines we would be covered.
I bought the Clear Motion because it is herbal. It is the only thing that I could find that said it was safe for children under the age of 12. I have a 6 year old and 9 year old. These contain ginger root, hoelen root, coix seed, magnolia flower, atractylodes root, oryza root, pogostem herb, saussurea root, tangerine peel, and chrysanthemum flower. Has anyone ever used these? Did they work. I bough each of my dds the sea band too. I thought that with the band and herbal medicine they should be ok. My 6 year old DOES get motion sickness so I know that I will need something. Should this be enough?

Don't assume your little one will get motion sickness. DD(3) at the time gets car sick very easily but she didn't even notice the ship's motion.

My pediatrician recommended benadryl for my little ones (4 and 3). She said traditional motion sickness medications work unpredictably in small children.

Here's hoping you won't need it!

DW used the Sea-Bands and Bonine and was fine. She gets motion sickness very easily. First night passing over the gulf stream was a bit tough, but after that she was fine. DS6 was fine as well as I for the duration of the trip. You have made fine selections.

We've found that ginger tablets do a great job in getting rid of any queasiness.

You may want to try the meds on the kids before leaving. Then if they don't react well to it, you can get something else.

Better to have a reaction at home than at sea!!

That is a great idea! The only question I have, though, is if this medicine doesn't work well with them........what do I get next?!?! I couldn't find any motion sickness medicine for kids. This was the only one I could find that is safe for kids. I did notice that mickeyboat said to give them Benadryl. However, I know that will definitely make them sleepy!

dvcreg,

I bought ginger capsules at WalMart today. Did you start taking them before embarkation? Did you give them to children?

I did call the pediatrician. She suggested the ginger in the form of ginger cookies, ginger ale, etc. She didn't seem to hip on suggesting any type of medicine. She mentioned, just like mickeyboat, that my dds may not even get sick. That is correct. I just want to be prepared in case they do since one dd does get motion sickness quite frequently.

Scottygirl, what type ginger capsules did you buy? I bought the Clear Motion. I would love to know if anyone has tried those before. I would also like to know if any children have taken them.
