Yet another question about crowds - week before Christmas?

OK, from what I remember, the week between Christmas and New Year's is awful, awful, awful. However, we are planning to go the week preceding Christmas this year. I'm thinking that won't be so bad, since I think most people stay home to prepare for Christmas. In fact, we did a couple days there at that time a few years ago and my memory is that it wasn't bad (but I only had a summer trip to compare it to at that point).

So what's everyone's experience/opinion? Thanks!!

ETA: We're planning on heading down Saturday the 17th and returning on the 23rd.

If you're prepared for crowds you will not have problems. We have done the week before Christmas twice, once going through until after Christmas. The first trip we didn't notice really bad crowds, but it was our first trip so we didn't know any better. :rotfl: This last Christmas it was definitely crowded....it will get MORE crowded the closer you get to Christmas.

We went the 11th - 17th last year before Christmas and the crowds were minimal. That was a Sunday - Friday. Now on Friday during the day the MK was pretty crowded for me. During the week at any of the parks the wait time for rides was maybe 5 - 10 minutes at the most, usually we could walk right on. But on that Friday the wait times were 25 minutes or so and up to an hour on Space mountain. And we went to MVMCP on the Sunday and it was moderately crowded, and I've heard it usually is. We are going back a week earlier next year, hoping for better weather, it was really cold, 40 for a high some days. That's the biggest downer, the weather is so unpredictable that time of year. HTH. :sunny:

We were there Dec 14-19 this past year. The Saturday before Christmas MK was mobbed. We were at MGM earlier the same day and couldn't even get a dinner PS at ANY restaurant in the whole park. However, the crowds were very light on the weekdays. Just be warned that many locals take weekend trips, and the crowds can get large over the weekends.

That week is a family tradition for us. We love it. Be sure to take advantage of EE, especially at MK and the crowds do get larger. It was never uncomfortable though. We spent Christmas morning (our last day) at AK and then went to epcot for dinner at R&C. AK was empty and we went to the head of all the lines. It was cold and rainy and my son got sick at epcot so that part of the day wasn't great but there weren't crowds. make ps' very early. Be sure you try the sleigh ride at WL
