yet another passport question

We took our applications to a service center and they courriered(sp) them to ottawa. On our receipt is a bar code and number. I am wondering if this is a tracking number that we can use to see what the status is on the applications?

If it is, does anyone know the website or number that I would call to do this?

It is a file number that you would use if you were calling to inquire about it. I was told to wait around 30 days before calling to inquire. We dropped ours off at a Service Canada site as well. I called Friday even thoug it was only 15days. The very nice lady I spoke to said it hasn't been opened yet(the file) but it should be issued no later than 45 days after my submission date. She also said if its within a couple of weeks of my travel date and I stll haven't received it(travelling in Late April-May), I should call back in and from the way I understood her, they would make sure it was approved and sent out in time. If you look on your paper the toll free number should be on it. Its is 1-800-567-6868. You have to keep trying, eventually you'll get on but you will be in a lineup at number 20. It took me about 45 minutes to talk to a real person. It gives you a notice every minute to let you know what place your in.

Thanks for the info. I don't think I will be able to wait until 2 weeks before we go to call if we haven't received it by then. I will be freakin' out long before that. haha People have been saying to call your MP too and they can somehow speed things along too. We leave apr 22 so fingers crossed.

We are also waiting on passports for April 22. I mailed them in (bad idea??)
and they arrived Jan. 24th.
Not freaking out yet but wondering when I will get my passports.

All the success stories seem to be from people who walked the line at the passport office.

I dropped mine off at a Service Canada Location as well on January 8. We are leaving April 15th. So fingers and toes are crossed. The clerk said that there might be an issue with mine as my lips look too glossy. I haven't heard anything as of yet. DD looked as if she should be fingerprinted and have serial numbers under her picture.
