Yet another obnoxious tell-me-about digicams post

I have an embarassing old digital camera (Olympus Camedia with 5x digital zoom, 2 MP). I've avoided replacing it because digital cameras seemed to be such a lose/lose purchase for a while, cost/product wise, and because my camera works, kwim.
Any way, I'm considering getting a new one. Things I would like:
*Optical zoom is a must-have
*Red-eye reduction would be nice
*I'd prefer a view finder
*I'd like a good night-time mode for fireworks, etc.
*Image stabilization woud be nice, is possible.
*I'd prefer a smaller camera to a larger one.

If you want IS and still small, look at the Canon A710 IS.
