Yet Another Hotel Comparison Thread: Tropicana vs. Camelot

So right now I have both of these booked for the SW Half in mid January.

From what I've come to understand, both have free wifi, parking doesn't matter because we won't have a car, both have fridges and microwaves and neither has breakfast.

The Tropicana is a tiny bit cheaper, and I know its a few hotels closer.

I've been searching for older threads all day and reading reviews and am undecided.

I've read that the Camelot rooms have balconies that you can see the fireworks from? Does anyone know if these rooms are hard to get and can you request them in advance?

Anyone have any opinions which hotel I should choose?

We have stayed at the Tropicana and loved the location. The rooms aren't anything fancy but we really didn't spend much time in our room. We are returning to Disneyland in February and are staying at the Tropicana again. Camelot is a few doors down but we haven't stayed there so I don't have an opinion about the Camelot.

We have stayed at both, and both were fine. We didn't have a room with a balcony at Camelot, so I'm not sure about booking them. The kids did think it was pretty cool that the pool was on the roof. I would stay at the Tropicana because it's cheaper and closer. My opinion would change if you had a car. The parking at the Tropicana was a nightmare!

We have stayed at both and pretty much even.

If I had to choose I would stay at the Tropicana as it is slightly closer and we also liked the coffee shop in the Tropicana.

I have never stayed at Camelot, but have stayed at Tropicana several times, and have never had a problem, it is an older hotel but really no different than most, and it is so close, I really like the food/gift/coffee shop, and the wifi connection was really good (but I have always gotten a room that is pretty close to the office)

Thanks for all the comments, it sounds like they are very similar. I think I was hesitating after I read the reviews about the Camelot's balconies, but it sounds like those might not be too common. So instead of worrying about that, I think I'm just going to go with the Tropicana.

I think both hotels are the same management. I have stayed at the Camelot a few times. I don't think they have any private balconies, just the walkway outside of the rooms. And you can see the fireworks from the pool area. They have maybe one or two rooms that face the street.

We recently stayed at the Camelot and will be heading back in a couple weeks. The Camelot and Tropicana are sister properties. We loved the Camelot. We prefer it because it's closer to McDonald's, so it's easy to get a quick breakfast and then head on our way.

Regarding the balconies - they (I believe) are only with a few Family suites, which are priced higher than the regular rooms.

Both hotels seem to be very nice and are both conveniently located right across the street. Either one is fine, IMO.

I always stay at the Tropicana. It is my offsite hotel of choice and I am booked back there for my next trip. Not only have I always had good service there, but it has a nice pool & hot tub, free wifi, a good convenient store attached, directly across the street from Disneyland, by a bus loop for the added excursions, the rooms are basic but have always been clean, and comfortable, the location is also around restaurants and a close walk to the garden walk for added shopping and restaurants. If you choose the Tropicana I would recommend calling the hotel and asking for the 3rd floor. Its where the free continental breakfast room is and its also top floor so you have no one stomping around above you.
