Yet another 3-1-1 question

Several packing questions. I am a bit intimidated by the new rules. We do not fly often at all.

I usually pack my makeup items, shampoos, etc. in my carryon. I guess I do that in case luggage gets lost, these are items I would not like to replace.

In my plastic quart size ziplock, I should put: foundation, mascara, and liquid type makeup. I am assuming my lipstick also??? I am assuming my compact of powder nor my eyeliner does NOT need to be in it. Now what about my non aerosol deoderant? It is not a clear gel, just the white lady speed stick type.

My son's asthma "puffer" should be in a separte bag with the word MEDICATION on it, right? Other medications such as tums or tylenol (non liquid or gel type) does NOT have to be in the separate medication bag???

Now are the snack "combos" okay? They have a cheesy filling. I know, goofy question, but it needs to be asked.

What about markers for coloring?? Or crayons and pens.

Sorry if this seems ignorant. I just don't want to get the airport and have stuff thrown away. I have read the guidelines, and these things were a little unclear or I did not see my answer.

Final question. We are getting the kids a throw away camera. Are those safe to put through in your carryon bag? Will it ruin the film?

Thanks for being patient with me. More questions may come later, but this is it for now.

Don't worry the rules are pretty simple, just think liquds and gels. No liquids or gels over 3.4oz and they must fit comfortably into a one quart zip lock bag, one zip lock per person hence the 3-1-1. There are exceptions for liquid or gel medications and they should not be in the 3-1-1 bag and can be any size, just have them separate and show it to the TSA agent. If you do make a separate medication bag it should only contain liquids and you do need to show the agent, don't just send it through with your other things and the 3-1-1 bag,

Your deoderant and lip stick should be in the 3-1-1 bag, not sure about the others and pills are fine anywhere as they are not liquid or gel.

Combos are fine as are markers and pens etc.

Not sure about the disposable cameras though.

Your absolute best source of info is here at the TSA website:

I'm stressing over the very same thing. I hate checking bags. SOLID deodorant does not have to put in your quart baggie. Liquids, gels, aerosols only. I've purchased a bunch of trial size items--suntan lotion, insect repellent (I bought the towelettes so that I didn't have to put them in my baggie), hairspray, hair gel. Since there are 3 of us traveling, we each get our own baggie.

Incidentally, if you wear contact lenses, the saline, etc. do not have to go in your baggie. They must be shown at security, but do not count towards your 3-1-1.

Your camera should be fine. I've traveled with camera supplies all the time and have never had any problems.

Lipstick (Solid) is not a baggie item. Solid deoderants are not a baggie item.

Lip GELS are a baggie item. Liquid eyeliner is a baggie item.

Ink pens and writing implements are not baggie items. Although I have gotten more INK on me from busted pens then mascara from busted wands, but in they eyes of the TSA mascara is DANGEROUS. (Logic is NOT a strong point here!)

Thanks guys. I have 1 1/2 weeks to go, and I am trying to get things in order. I bought aerosol hair spray (trial size) and that will go in my baggie along with the other things.

Glad to know that the markers and pens are okay. I am also glad to know that the combos are okay. They are my favorite travel snack ;) .

I know seasoned travelers do not worry about this stuff because it like 2nd nature to them. But it is a bit stressful to me...

Now what about the inhaler? That is considered a liquid medication, right? We are also fairly new to the asthma thing. DS was diagnosed with it 1 1/2 years ago. He does not need it often, but some things trigger it (allergies, smoke, etc) so we need it on hand just in case.

Thanks again guys.

one zip lock per family

It is actually one zip loc bag per PERSON. My hubby and myself each had our own zip loc bag.

As far as the liquid medication, if it fits in one of your 3-1-1 bags, just put it in there if the bottle is smaller than 3.4 ounces. If the container is larger than 3.4 ounces, then it needs it's own bag and declared separately to the screeners.

Oops yes that was a typo on my part! Sorry and tx for the correction.
