has anyone ever proposed and been turned down. I proposed to my dh about 1 1/2 before we got engaged. I asked him and and he laughed. I was horrified, I had finally found the nerve to ask him and he laughed. When he realized I was serious he explained that he wanted us to be done college and have a little more savings before we thought about marriage. Well, I finished college, and we had been saving and he proposed to me just after Christmas about 1 1/2 yrs later. We will celebrate our 8 year anniversary in May.

Well, I was propsed to, and laughed at the guy! We were not even really dating, just good friends (or so I thought) when he asked me to marry him. This was right before I left for college, and he did not have a ring or anything. Later when I got engaged to my DH, he (the other guy) joined the military since, "I have nothing here anymore, as the woman of my dreams is marrying someone else."

I turned down a proposal. I can't remember anything about it, other than Jeopardy! was on TV and the final question was "What is Mississippi"

The guy showed up on my doorstep with an engagement ring and he had been stalking me for months. Oh yeah, just who I want to marry, a stalker

I admit, I have never proposed to anyone, but I have turned down 2 people. The first I had to pick my jaw off the floor after because I just didn't expect it, and obviously didn't feel about him as he did of me (I was still dating other people at the time). It was awful... and he was so persistent afterwards. I was so happy after he found someone else and married her instead.

The other one... it was someone I dated off and on for several years and when he popped the question, w/o a moment of hesitation I said no. To this day, I still feel awful because I know it broke his heart. Unfortunately I lost his friendship as wel after that. That's one I wish I could have changed... not my answer but how I said it all.

The closest I've had to a proposal being turned down on the other end, was when someone I was totally in love with, ended our engagment and relationship because he "wanted to see what was out there in college" I can only guess how that made me feel would be somewhat like being turned down when you ask.
