I am so excited, I got an interview for a job I applied for! It's on Friday at 1:45 p.m. I'm so glad she called me back, but I'm nervous too....

I have no idea what to wear or how to plan!! I haven't had an intervew in a long time and all of previous ones have been very casual, hired right on the spot type of deals. I think maybe I'll just wear a button down shirt and some khaki pants.

Any advice?? I'm so excited but nervous.

Always maintain eye contact and avoid saying things like "um". Also, if it's a company that you're not familiar with, study up on them. The interviewers take you as a serious candidate when you know something about them. Lastly, just relax. Good luck to you...you'll be fine...

WHat kind of postion is it? Although our daily dress is business casual we expect interview candidates to be dressed to impress-- if they aren't then we think 'do they really want the job?'.

Take notes into the interview with you. Come up with a theme so to speak for the interview. In our company our interviews are a list of questions and most are very open ended. On my last interview for an internal postion my 'theme' was communication. I tried to tie my communication skills into the answers where they fit. Make notes on what you have done in the past that would fit this new job. Think broad range not transactional.

And Good Luck!!!

I just got done with conducting interviews for a position in our company.

Wear Dark pants or skirt (Knee length) not too short. A button down shirt and if you have a jacket.

Keep eye contact, smile. Keep answers short and to the point.

I wouldn't bring notes, if you start to stumble through them, they give the wrong impression.

Most of all try and relax, deep breath before you walk in.

Good Luck.

Congratulations and good luck. I just spent the last several months looking for a new job, and I know how stressful that can be. Unless the place you are applying to is VERY casual, it's really best to wear a suit to an interview. If you don't have a suit, at least invest in a blazer. I'm sure you will find other occasions to wear it, too.

Interview tips:

1. If you are prone to nervousness, don't drink caffiene before the interview -- it only makes the jitters worse.
2. Don't get flustered! If they ask a question you don't have a good answer for, do you best and then move on. Don't let it bother you and affect your answers to the rest of the interview.
3. Definitely know the company. Research their website, and come with questions. Every interview ends with a time for questions from the candidate, and if you don't have any you will look like you aren't very interested in the position.

I don't think it's actually a copmany. They have no website, but it is an immigration records contract for the INS. All I could find online was the following.

The purpose of the Service Center Operations Team (SCOT) contract is to obtain comprehensive, cost-effective on-site data entry and other records processing and related support services for the INS in its four service centers, and in any additional locations INS may designate in writing.

In the past, aliens eligible to apply for benefits under the Immigration and Nationality Laws would submit their applications and petitions to one of 86 INS District Offices and Suboffices throughout the United States. To introduce greater efficiencies and improved productivity, the INS established four service centers and initiated a Direct Mail Program in 1986. Under the program, aliens seeking benefits under the Immigration and Nationality Act (Act) are to mail their applications and petitions to a service center rather than to a District or Suboffice.

As far as the job itself, it is for a PT general file clerk.

The SCOT Clerk 1A is a file clerk who performs simple filing, sorting of documents, shelving of files or boxes, and transportation of materials. May operate computer. May be required to sit or use repetitve hand motions to sort and handle documents. May frequently reach with hands and arms. May stand for long periods. May lift, bend, twist, or go up and down ladders with boxes of files weighing up to 50 lbs. May have to push or pull carts of files in excess of 200 lbs.

Thank you all for your help and suggestions. I am still fairly young (and still in college) and this is my first real job interview.

This sounds good. In terms of preparing for the interview, take a good look at the job listing. Think about all of the tasks on it: What experience do you have with these? It's good to have several stories or anecdotes ready that can illustrate why you are a good fit for the job. If you have stories in your head, you can just choose which one to use depending on their questions. Also think about what makes you unique. You want to be memorable and stand out from other applicants.

I have kind of a lot of experience with interviews. If you have other questions or want more specific ideas, feel free to PM me.
