I think I understand this but I just want to be sure. Can I have points expiring in June 08 transferred into my August 07 use year account and bank them to use during my August 08 use year? Is there a late banking penalty? I want to plan a big family vacation in the summer of 09 and thought to start looking now for points if I can find the right amount at the right resort to transfer. Thanks!

Wow, not sure I understand the question.....banking rules go as follows. If you have points expiring in June of 08 (AUGUY), than you could bank these into you AUG 08 UY with the new rules...march banking deadline. With banking and borrowing you can use 3 years worth of points to book travel.

Where did the points that expire in June 08 come from? Was it your 07 or 06 UY? If 07 UY then you can bank them into your 08 UY if 06 UY then I don't think you can do anything with them as they have already been banked, but I may be wrong. Also when in 09 are you planning the family vacation? There is no late banking penalty other than losing the entire amount of unbanked points once past the 8 month deadline.

I'm not that knowledgeable about point transfers but I have read here on the boards that when you transfer points into your account, the banking rules do not apply. So I think you will be able to do what you want. You probably already know this but banked points cannot be transferred so you need to transfer in "current" points and then bank them, not the other way around. Also you only get one transfer per Use Year, in or out of your account.

You might want to give MS a call and ask them. Make a note about who you spoke with and when, just in case you get a different answer when you call back to make the transfer!

It sounds like you want to rent points from someone and have them transferred into your account.

I don't quite understand the 'expiring June '08" question. If this means you have someone with a June UY and you want to know if you could use those points, then the answer is probably not.

First, those points do not transfer into your August UY account. They would remain as June UY points.

2nd, if they are actually June 2006 points that were banked into a June 2007 UY, then they can't be transferred at all.

3rd, if they are june 2007 points, then they can be transferred, but you cannot bank them because June Use Year's 8-month expired Jan 31st. Transferred points can be banked only if they are still within banking windows. If MS allowed banking transferred points that were past their banking windows, that kind of defeats the purpose of a banking window in the first place.

Also, if the transferred points are a different use year than your own points, be aware you couldn't combine them directly with your points to make a reservation.

To make things simple, and to work best for you, it'd be a lot better if you found someone with an August Use Year and got points from them. Your next best thing is to get points from someone with a later use year than yours. For example, if someone transferred their Dec 2007 points to you, you could bank them into their 2008 use year (which goes 12/1/2008 thru 11/30/2009) and then use them for a 2009 reservation.

If points expire in June 2008, then they cannot be an August Use Year. There is no May Use Years, nor are there any July Use Years, so the OP must be talking about a June UY, meaning the points actually expire June 1, 2008. Last day to use them would be May 31, 2008.

Someone with an August UY, their points would expire August 1, 2008. Last day to use them would be July 31, 2008, not sometime in June.

Not sure if I understand what banking period you are referring to--the transferor's or the person receiving the points.
I know on at least two occasions that I did transfer in points and were allowed to bank them after MY banking timeframe had expired...was told that transferred points did not follow normal banking guidelines.
Were you referring to the banking period of the transferor?
