While I'm sad that RDCT is going away, in a small way, it's a good thing when you look at the big picture.
RDCT, from a Guest Control standpoint, has been an absolute nightmare. It's a very popular show, and attracts tonnes of people; but, at the same time, it closes off many of the viewing areas that could be used to hold those people, which results in gridlock along Main Street.
From what I understand, it was designed over in Florida, where they're used to being able to accomodate large, elaborate shows like
Wishes: A Magical Gathering of Disney Dreams at the
Magic Kingdom Park because of the size of that park, and the fact that there are no residential areas surrounding it.
As
Disneyland Park is much smaller and is in a surburban area, the concept simply did not translate at all, resulting in large segments of the park being closed, as well as frequent cancellations due to high winds.
While I'm sure that this new show, if it does come about, will be still fairly elaborate in it's theme and show elements, it will probably be closer to
Fantasy in the Sky with regards to the pyrotechnics themselves.
For the same reasons, I would also expect a redesign of the DLR presentation of
Disney's Celebrate America! A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky, which suffered from the same problems when we presented it on 4 July last year.
