My yellow lab was recently diagnosed with cushings disease. Text book case....He had his hormone levels checked and they recommended we put him on lysoderm (i think thats the spelling- i'm still medicated)....20 pills at the vets was just over $200.

He will need 1 pill a day for just over a week and then he goes back to have more blood work, then it will be modified to 2-3 a week from there on out, to level off his hormones.

While the X and i both agree that this treatment is worth it for the dogs quality of life- the $200 price tag was a bit shocking! I googled, went to petmd.com etc.. about 10 different sites, and the cheapest I can find it is $5.99 per pill. I did find 1 place that is $479.00 for 100 of them but you have to buy the entire bottle of 100.

Saber lives with the X and he will be giving him the lysoderm for as long as required, but has anyone ever ordered dog pills on line? What about from Canadian pharms? I'm hesitant to order from them due to the FDA etc...???

We find out tomorrow (thursday) if this weeks worth did help him, so early next week we'll have to order more if thats the case.

Any help is appreciated!

I'm sorry I have no info and I've never ordered pet meds online, but I wanted to wish your pup luck! Hope he does well.

Assume this is a "people" drug being used for a dog? If so I'd certainly consider using Canadian vendors if cheaper (friends in Canada are quite comfortable with most of them).
Double check if there's a generic; if not see if you can find out WHEN one will be on the market - shortly or a long time from now. That may help if it's sooner rather than later.
Call all sorts of pharmacies and get price quotes, find out at what quantities the price breaks are. I've been surprised that more expensive pharmacies are often cheaper for certain drugs.
Ask vet if there's a cheaper option (suspect you've already done that but had to ask).
Good luck - we've done the people drug thing more often than I'd like for our dogs and it's always taken me a lot of legwork to get it to work financially.
